The 20-turn configuration provides a balance of torque and speed that suits a wide range of RC vehicles, from entry-level crawlers to experienced builder setups. With its custom-made steel case construction and precision engineering, this brushed RC motor brings durability and consistency to your RC hobby investment.

The Z-E0065 is compatible with popular RC trucks and cars across multiple platforms, making it a versatile upgrade or replacement option for enthusiasts looking to improve their crawler's performance. This is a genuine RC4WD product, engineered to the highest standards for reliable operation in challenging conditions.

Key Features

  • Custom-Made 540 Steel Case with Chrome-Plated Finish — The motor body is constructed from premium steel and finished with a chrome-plated coating, providing exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion even in wet or muddy off-road conditions. This robust construction ensures your motor will withstand the rigours of serious RC crawler use and maintain its appearance over time.
  • Built-In Capacitor for Glitch Minimisation — An integrated capacitor works to reduce electrical glitching and interference, which is particularly important when running sensitive receivers and electronics in demanding RC environments. This feature helps ensure clean power delivery and reliable radio signal reception during technical driving scenarios.
  • High-Torque Magnet and Rotor — The motor features a powerful magnet and precision rotor assembly designed to deliver maximum torque output, which is essential for climbing steep slopes, powering through obstacles, and maintaining steady control during scale driving manoeuvres. This engineering directly translates to improved off-road performance and better handling characteristics.
  • Compact 50mm Length Footprint — The small overall length of just 50mm makes this motor suitable for installation in space-constrained chassis designs and tight engine compartments found in many popular RC crawler platforms. This compact form factor doesn't compromise on power or performance.
  • Polished Bushings — Precision-machined and polished bushings ensure smooth rotor rotation with minimal friction, reducing power loss and heat generation during extended driving sessions. This contributes to more efficient operation and longer motor lifespan.
  • Tuned for Rock Climbing and Scale Driving — Every aspect of this motor's design has been optimised specifically for the demands of scale crawling and rock climbing applications, rather than being a generic motor adapted for RC use. This specialisation means you get a motor that truly understands the unique requirements of technical off-road driving.

Technical Performance

The RC4WD 540 Crawler Brushed Motor 20T delivers impressive technical specifications that make it suitable for serious RC crawlers and scale trucks. At no load, this motor achieves 20,000 RPM at 7.2V (±10%) with a current draw of just 2A, demonstrating its efficiency and potential for sustained operation. Under rated load conditions, the motor maintains 18,400 RPM at 7.2V (±10%) while drawing 7.92A, providing a realistic picture of performance during actual crawling scenarios. The motor operates smoothly across an impressive voltage range of 2.4V to 30V, offering tremendous flexibility in battery selection and allowing you to match the motor precisely to your build requirements. The output shaft measures 11mm in length with a 3.1mm outer diameter, standard dimensions that interface seamlessly with most RC crawler transmissions and drivetrain components. With a body outer diameter of 35.5mm and a total length of 50mm, this motor slots easily into most 540-size motor bays. The motor weighs a reasonable 156g, contributing appropriately to your overall vehicle weight distribution without adding unnecessary mass. The designed operating temperature range of -10°C to +60°C makes this motor suitable for year-round RC driving across the UK climate, from winter frost to summer heat. Shaft end play is precisely controlled between 0.1mm and 0.5mm, ensuring smooth operation with minimal internal friction. The motor operates at a noise level below 78 decibels, respectful of neighbours whilst still delivering the performance you need for competitive crawling events.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the RC4WD 540 Crawler Brushed Motor 20T suitable for beginners learning RC crawling? — Yes, this motor is an excellent choice for beginners moving into the hobby. The 20-turn configuration provides a good balance of torque and speed that makes the vehicle easier to control on technical terrain, whilst the brushed design is straightforward to understand and maintain. Many experienced UK RC crawlers recommend starting with a motor in this turn range before experimenting with higher or lower turn counts.
  • What battery voltage does this motor need, and can I use my existing RC batteries? — The RC4WD 540 Crawler Brushed Motor 20T operates across an impressive 2.4V to 30V range, giving you tremendous flexibility. This means you can use 1S LiPo batteries (3.7V nominal), 2S LiPo packs (7.4V), 3S packs (11.1V), or even higher voltage configurations. You can also use traditional NiMH battery packs in 6-cell (7.2V), 7-cell (8.4V), or 8-cell (9.6V) configurations. The motor will perform optimally around 7.2V, which is why the performance specifications are rated at this voltage. Always ensure your ESC (electronic speed controller) is rated for the maximum voltage of your chosen battery pack.
  • Will the RC4WD 540 20T motor fit in my RC4WD Gelande II or Trail Finder 2? — Yes, this motor is fully compatible with both the RC4WD Gelande II and RC4WD Trail Finder 2, as these vehicles use standard 540-size motor bays. The compact 50mm length and 35.5mm diameter ensure seamless installation in these popular 1/10 scale crawlers. Many UK-based RC4WD owners choose this exact motor for their builds.
  • How does the 20T version compare to other turn counts in the RC4WD crawler motor range? — The 20T is a mid-range option in the RC4WD 540 lineup. The higher turn count motors (35T, 45T, 55T, 65T, 80T) provide progressively more torque but lower top speed, making them better for extreme rock crawling and slow-speed technical driving. The lower turn count motors (27T) offer more speed with slightly less torque, better suited for faster trail driving. The 20T sits in the sweet spot for general-purpose crawling, offering enough torque for climbing whilst maintaining useful speed for trail runs. Choose based on your primary driving style: more torque for rock crawling, more speed for trail driving.
  • Is this a brushless or brushed motor, and what does that mean for maintenance? — This is a brushed motor design, which means it uses traditional carbon brushes to deliver power to the rotating rotor. Brushed motors are simpler to understand and maintain than brushless alternatives, require no programming or specialist equipment, and are generally more affordable. However, brushes do eventually wear and may need periodic replacement after heavy use. For most UK RC enthusiasts, the simplicity and proven reliability of brushed motors make them an excellent choice, particularly for learning the hobby or for scale driving where absolute speed is less important than precision and control.
  • What ESC do I need to run this motor? — You'll need a brushed ESC (electronic speed controller) rated for at least the motor's maximum continuous current of 7.92A. Many affordable ESCs in the 30-50A range are suitable and will provide plenty of headroom. Your ESC must also be rated for the maximum voltage of your battery pack. Since this motor can handle up to 30V, ensure your ESC supports that voltage if you plan to run high-voltage LiPo packs. For beginners, a simple 2S or 3S LiPo battery with a 30A brushed ESC provides an excellent and affordable starting point.
  • Does the built-in capacitor really make a noticeable difference? — Yes, the integrated capacitor helps reduce electrical noise and glitching caused by the brushes and switching during motor operation. This is particularly valuable in rock crawling applications where you're running the motor at very low speeds with sensitive radio receivers that can pick up electrical interference. You'll notice cleaner steering response and fewer random glitches when receiving signal on difficult terrain.
