Overview
The SPM Firma 6500Kv Brushless Motor is a high-performance brushless motor engineered specifically for drag racing applications, particularly designed for the Losi 22S No Prep Drag Car platform. This is a serious component for enthusiasts who demand reliability and power delivery in competitive racing environments. Whether you're a dedicated drag racer looking to upgrade your RC car UK setup or an experienced competitor seeking proven performance, the Firma 6500Kv delivers the engineering excellence Spektrum is known for in the brushless RC motor market.
Spektrum, a recognised leader in RC electronics and components, has crafted this motor to integrate seamlessly with their ecosystem of equipment. The 6500Kv rating provides the precise power band needed for no-prep drag racing, offering responsive acceleration and consistent performance across multiple runs. This brushless motor represents a significant investment in your drag car's drivetrain, backed by Spektrum's reputation for quality and dependable performance in the competitive RC community.
Built with bearing construction rather than bushings, this motor offers superior longevity and reduced friction for consistent performance run after run. The inclusion of 4mm bullet connectors ensures reliable electrical connection with compatible ESCs and power systems, whilst the sensored capability provides enhanced control and responsiveness when paired with the right electronic speed control unit.
Key Features
- 6500Kv Rating — The KV rating determines how many RPM the motor generates per volt of input, and 6500Kv is specifically calibrated for drag racing applications where controlled acceleration and power delivery are critical to achieving consistent lap times and competitive edge.
- Brushless Motor Technology — Brushless construction eliminates carbon brush wear and associated maintenance, providing longer service life, more efficient power transfer, and significantly reduced noise compared to brushed alternatives, making this ideal for serious racers in the UK RC scene.
- Bearing Construction — The motor utilises bearing support rather than bushings, which dramatically reduces internal friction, allows for higher RPM capability, and extends the working life of the motor even under continuous racing conditions and heat generation.
- 4mm Bullet Connectors — These industry-standard connectors provide secure, reliable electrical connection with minimal voltage loss, ensuring consistent power delivery to your drag racing setup and compatibility with most Spektrum ESC units and compatible speed controllers.
- Optimised for Losi 22S No Prep Drag Car — This motor is purpose-built and tested specifically for the Losi 22S platform, ensuring perfect fitment, correct power delivery characteristics, and the performance envelope Losi engineers designed the chassis to utilise.
- Recommended with Firma 100A ESC — Spektrum recommends pairing this motor with the Firma 100 amp Smart ESC, which is engineered to work in perfect harmony with the motor's characteristics and provide the electronic stability and current handling needed for reliable drag racing.
Technical Performance
The Firma 6500Kv Brushless Motor represents serious engineering for competitive drag racing. With a brushless design, this motor eliminates the maintenance issues and efficiency losses associated with brushed motors, delivering consistent power output across repeated acceleration runs essential in no-prep drag racing formats. The bearing construction ensures minimal internal friction, allowing the motor to reach its full RPM potential with reduced heat generation compared to bushing-based designs. At 206 grams (7.26oz), the motor's weight is engineered to provide good power-to-weight ratio without unnecessary mass that could impact your drag car's acceleration or handling characteristics. The 6500Kv specification has been carefully chosen for the Losi 22S platform, delivering the optimal power band for this vehicle class. The motor features 4mm bullet connectors for secure, efficient power delivery with minimal voltage drop. When paired with the recommended Spektrum Firma 100 amp Smart ESC, this motor combination provides the electronic management and thermal protection necessary for sustained competitive use. The brushless design provides superior efficiency compared to brushed alternatives, converting more of your battery's energy into useful mechanical motion rather than heat loss. For drag racers in the UK RC community seeking a proven, reliable motor upgrade or complete powertrain replacement, the Firma 6500Kv delivers the performance consistency and build quality expected from Spektrum's Firma line.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Firma 6500Kv motor suitable for beginners in RC drag racing? — Whilst this is a high-quality brushless motor, drag racing typically appeals to experienced RC enthusiasts rather than beginners. However, if you already have experience with brushless RC cars and are moving into drag racing, this motor is an excellent choice backed by Spektrum's reputation for reliability and performance. The motor itself is robust and forgiving, though you'll need supporting equipment like a compatible ESC and appropriate battery to use it effectively.
- What battery does the Firma 6500Kv motor require? — The source material does not specify exact battery specifications, however the recommended Spektrum Firma 100 amp Smart ESC will accept LiPo battery packs. The specific voltage and capacity should match your Losi 22S No Prep Drag Car's design specifications and the ESC's rating. Consult your vehicle documentation or contact RC Model Shop for the correct battery recommendation for your particular setup.
- Can I use this motor with other speed controllers besides the recommended Firma 100A ESC? — The Firma 6500Kv features standard 4mm bullet connectors, making it compatible with other ESCs that accept this connector type. However, Spektrum specifically recommends the Firma 100 amp Smart ESC for optimal integration. The ESC must be rated to handle the power output and current draw of this motor, typically requiring a 100 amp minimum rating for drag racing applications.
- What makes the bearing construction better than bushings in a drag racing motor? — Bearing construction reduces internal friction significantly compared to bushing designs, allowing the motor to spin more freely and reach higher RPMs with less resistance. This translates to better acceleration, more consistent performance across multiple runs, and longer motor lifespan even under the intense demands of drag racing where motors generate substantial heat from repeated hard acceleration runs.
- Is this motor sensored or sensorless? — According to the specifications, this is a non-sensored motor design. Sensorless motors are straightforward to operate and often preferred for drag racing where simplicity and reliability matter most, though they may have slightly different acceleration characteristics compared to sensored alternatives.
- What is the KV rating and why does it matter for drag racing? — The 6500Kv rating means the motor generates 6500 revolutions per minute for every volt of battery power supplied. For drag racing, this specific KV has been engineered to provide the optimal power delivery characteristics for the Losi 22S No Prep Drag Car, delivering the right balance of acceleration response and torque needed for competitive drag racing performance.
