Key Features
- Strong and Durable Steel Construction — Manufactured from premium steel that resists wear, deformation and failure during high-performance RC driving in extreme conditions, ensuring your transmission continues to operate smoothly and reliably even during aggressive bashing sessions or competitive racing.
- Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The wide tooth design is engineered for smooth, quiet operation with minimal backlash, resulting in precise power delivery to your motor and reduced vibration throughout your RC vehicle's drivetrain.
- Safe-D5 Profile with D-Shaped Bore — The distinctive D-shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile perfectly, meaning drive and braking are not lost if the set-screw backs out during intense driving, providing critical safety and reliability when you need it most.
- Compatible with 5mm Motor Shaft Diameter — Engineered to fit standard 5mm motor shafts found across ARRMA's brushless RC range, ensuring seamless integration with your existing powertrain without requiring additional adapters or modifications.
- Precision Manufactured Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The precisely threaded bore accepts the included M4 x 4mm set-screw with consistent, repeatable torque and security, preventing unwanted rotation or slippage during operation.
- E-Clip Retention Included — The supplied 3.2mm E-clip provides additional security for motor shaft pinion retention, adding an extra layer of protection against gear separation during high-stress driving scenarios.
- 17-Tooth, 0.8 Module Specification — This tooth count and module pitch combination offers the ideal performance envelope for most ARRMA ready to run RC vehicles, balancing acceleration with top-end speed across a range of driving conditions.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 17T 0.8Mod Safe-D5 Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of precision transmission engineering for RC hobbyists. Machined from high-quality steel using advanced manufacturing techniques, this component is built to endure the rigorous demands of modern brushless RC vehicles operating at high power levels. The 0.8 Module specification indicates a gear pitch where the pitch diameter equals the number of teeth multiplied by 0.8 millimetres, creating a standardised meshing profile that works seamlessly with ARRMA spur gears across their product range. The 17-tooth configuration strikes an optimal balance for most driving scenarios, providing sufficient torque off-the-line whilst maintaining reasonable top-end speed — a critical consideration for vehicles running 3S, 4S, or higher-voltage brushless systems. The precision wide tooth profile minimises stress concentration points, distributing loads evenly across each tooth engagement for extended service life. The Safe-D5 design with its characteristic D-shaped bore prevents catastrophic power loss if the securing set-screw loosens, a common failure point in high-vibration RC environments. This engineering detail alone makes this pinion gear the preferred choice for UK RC enthusiasts who demand peace of mind during competitive racing or intense bashing sessions. The threaded set-screw hole is machined to exacting tolerances to accept the M4 x 4mm fastener without thread stripping or movement, and the included E-clip adds redundant retention that prevents the gear from sliding along the motor shaft even under extreme acceleration or braking forces.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which ARRMA RC vehicles is this 17T pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear is a standard or optional part for numerous ARRMA brushless RC models including the 1/10 scale BIG ROCK 223S 4X4, BIG ROCK 3S 4X4, FURY 223S DSC 2WD, GORGON 223S 2WD, GRANITE 223S 4X4, GRANITE 3S 4X4, KRATON 4S 4X4, OUTCAST 4S 4X4, QUAKE 223S DSC 2WD, SENTON 223S DSC 4X4, SENTON 3S 4X4, VORTEKS 223S 4X4, VORTEKS 223S DSC 2WD, and VORTEKS 3S 4X4, as well as 1/8 scale models including the INFRACTION 223S DSC 4X4, MOJAVE 4S 4X4, TYPHON 3S 4X4, and VENDETTA 3S 4X4.
- What does the Safe-D5 design do and why is it important? — The Safe-D5 design features a D-shaped hole that matches your motor shaft profile, meaning if the set-screw accidentally loosens and backs out, you won't lose drive or braking capability. This is a critical safety feature for serious RC driving where gear separation could damage your vehicle or cause loss of control.
- What is the difference between 0.8 Module and other gear pitches? — Module refers to the gear pitch standard, where 0.8 Module means the pitch diameter equals the number of teeth times 0.8mm. This specification ensures the pinion gear meshes correctly with ARRMA spur gears; using mismatched modules causes poor meshing, excessive wear, and noise.
- Is this suitable for both racing and bashing? — Yes, absolutely. The tough steel construction and precision wide tooth profile make this pinion gear equally at home in competitive track racing environments and aggressive off-road bashing scenarios. The engineering is robust enough for both applications.
- What motor shaft diameter does this fit? — This pinion gear is designed to suit 5mm motor shaft diameter, which is the standard shaft size across ARRMA's brushless motor range, making it compatible with their complete lineup of ready to run RC vehicles.
- Do I need to use the set-screw and E-clip together? — While the set-screw alone can secure the gear, ARRMA supplies the E-clip for added redundancy. Many experienced RC enthusiasts use both components together for maximum security, particularly when running high-powered brushless systems where vibration and stress are greatest.
- Can I use a different tooth count on the same motor? — Yes, ARRMA offers pinion gears in different tooth counts (commonly 16T, 17T, 18T and others) to fine-tune your vehicle's performance. Lower tooth counts increase top speed, whilst higher tooth counts provide more acceleration and torque — choose based on your specific driving style and track layout.
