Overview

The ARRMA 25T 0.8Mod Safe-D5 Pinion Gear is an essential replacement part for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and precision in their drivetrain components. Whether you're a competitive racer, a weekend basher, or someone who enjoys high-performance RC vehicles, having quality pinion gears in your RC tool box is crucial for maintaining consistent performance and avoiding costly downtime. This tough steel pinion gear is specifically engineered to deliver the durability and precision that ARRMA vehicles are renowned for, making it the perfect choice for anyone running an ARRMA RC car that requires a 25-tooth pinion upgrade or replacement.

Pinion gears are a critical component in your RC car's drivetrain, as they directly influence acceleration, top speed, and overall vehicle performance. The 25T configuration offers an excellent balance for many RC driving styles and conditions, whether you're exploring challenging terrain, racing on the track, or enjoying casual weekend drives. This particular pinion gear from ARRMA combines advanced engineering with practical safety features, ensuring your RC car performs at its best whilst reducing the frustration of unexpected mechanical failures during your driving sessions.

What sets this pinion gear apart from generic alternatives available online is its precision manufacturing, robust steel construction, and innovative Safe-D design that prevents loss of drive and braking power even if your set-screw backs out unexpectedly. For RC enthusiasts in the UK looking for genuine ARRMA components with proven reliability, this 25T pinion gear represents an investment in sustained performance and peace of mind.

Key Features

  • Strong and durable steel construction — The pinion gear is manufactured from high-quality steel, which provides exceptional strength and longevity even under the extreme stresses of competitive RC driving, aggressive bashings, and demanding off-road conditions. This material choice ensures your investment lasts through countless hours of use without premature wear or tooth stripping.
  • Precision manufactured wide tooth profile — The wide tooth profile is engineered for smooth, reliable meshing with your spur gear, reducing noise, minimising power loss, and ensuring consistent torque delivery to your wheels. This precision manufacturing means better acceleration response and smoother power transitions throughout your driving experience.
  • Safe-D5 bore design — The innovative D-shaped hole is specifically contoured to match your motor shaft profile, creating a mechanical lock that prevents loss of drive and braking power if the set-screw accidentally backs out during aggressive driving. This is a significant safety feature that protects you from unexpected drivetrain failure and the frustration of losing power mid-run.
  • 5mm motor shaft diameter compatibility — The Safe-D5 bore is precisely sized for 5mm motor shafts, ensuring perfect fitment with compatible ARRMA motors and delivering secure, wobble-free engagement that maintains optimal drivetrain efficiency and gear mesh.
  • Precision manufactured threaded set-screw hole — The M4 x 4mm threaded hole is manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring the supplied set-screw engages securely and maintains consistent pinion positioning on your motor shaft without slipping or requiring constant retightening.
  • E-clip retention system — The 3.2mm E-clip provides an additional safety layer, securing the pinion gear firmly to the motor shaft and working in conjunction with the set-screw to eliminate any possibility of the gear separating from the shaft during hard acceleration or braking events.

Technical Performance

This ARRMA pinion gear represents the pinnacle of drivetrain component engineering for RC vehicles. Manufactured from premium steel with a 25-tooth configuration and 0.8 Module pitch specification, the gear delivers the precision and durability required for consistent performance across all RC driving styles. The 0.8 Module pitch is a standard specification in the RC industry, ensuring compatibility with widely available spur gears whilst maintaining optimal gear mesh characteristics. The Safe-D5 bore is a game-changing feature that addresses one of the most common drivetrain issues in RC cars — the set-screw backing out and causing immediate loss of power and braking. By incorporating a D-shaped bore that mechanically locks onto your motor shaft, ARRMA has engineered redundancy into the system, meaning even if your set-screw loosens, you maintain full drivetrain functionality. The wide tooth profile delivers smooth power transmission with minimal backlash, which translates to improved acceleration response, better handling characteristics, and reduced strain on your motor, ESC, and battery system. For RC car owners in the UK seeking replacement or upgrade pinion gears, this component represents the ideal combination of proven reliability, innovative safety design, and precision manufacturing that ARRMA is recognised for worldwide. The inclusion of both the set-screw and E-clip means you receive everything necessary for a complete installation, eliminating the need to source additional hardware separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the Safe-D5 design do and why is it important for my RC car? — The Safe-D5 bore features a D-shaped hole that mechanically matches your motor shaft profile, creating a secure mechanical lock. This design is crucial because it prevents loss of drive and braking power even if the set-screw backs out during driving, which is a common problem in RC cars. This means you maintain full drivetrain functionality and braking ability even in the worst-case scenario of set-screw loosening, keeping you in control of your RC vehicle at all times.
  • What is the 0.8 Module specification and why does it matter? — Module is a gear pitch specification that determines the size of the gear teeth and their spacing. The 0.8 Module is a standard specification in RC cars, meaning this pinion gear meshes correctly with industry-standard spur gears. This standardisation ensures compatibility with the widest range of RC vehicles and allows you to swap components between different models without worrying about fitment issues.
  • Will this pinion gear fit my ARRMA RC car? — This gear is specifically designed for ARRMA vehicles with 5mm motor shafts. As long as your motor has a 5mm diameter shaft and your RC car uses standard 0.8 Module gears, this pinion will fit perfectly. If you're unsure about your motor shaft size, check your ARRMA documentation or contact the RC Model Shop team for guidance.
  • What is the difference between this 25T pinion and other tooth count options? — Tooth count directly affects your RC car's performance characteristics. A 25T pinion provides a specific gear ratio that balances acceleration and top speed, making it suitable for general-purpose driving. Lower tooth counts like 23T or 24T increase top speed but reduce acceleration and torque, whilst higher counts like 26T or 27T improve acceleration and climbing ability but reduce maximum speed. Your choice depends on your driving style and track or terrain conditions.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, this pinion gear is suitable for beginners, but it's important to understand that this is a replacement component rather than a complete drivetrain solution. If you're new to RC cars, you'll benefit from understanding basic drivetrain maintenance and gear mesh setup. The RC Model Shop team can provide guidance on installation and setup to ensure your car performs optimally.
  • How often do I need to replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and correct gear mesh, a quality steel pinion gear like this one can provide thousands of miles of reliable service. You'll typically need replacement only if you damage the teeth, the gear becomes worn after extensive use, or you want to change your car's performance characteristics by switching to a different tooth count.
