This premium pinion gear represents the perfect upgrade or replacement part for RC cars and remote control vehicles that require exact gear ratios and superior durability. Whether you're a weekend basher pushing your RC model to its limits or a competitive racer fine-tuning your setup, this aluminium 7075 pinion gear delivers the performance characteristics you need to stay competitive on the track or trail.
Constructed from high-grade aluminium 7075 alloy, this pinion gear combines lightweight construction with exceptional strength and rigidity. The 48-pitch (48DP) specification ensures compatibility with a wide range of standard RC car gearboxes and drive systems, making this a versatile upgrade option for many popular models in the UK market. The 18-tooth configuration provides a balanced approach to torque and top-end speed, making it suitable for various driving conditions and racing disciplines from circuit racing to off-road bashing.
As a critical drivetrain component, the quality of your pinion gear directly impacts acceleration, top speed, efficiency and overall vehicle performance. The Fastrax brand is recognised across the RC hobby for manufacturing components that meet stringent quality standards, and this 48DP 18T pinion gear continues that tradition. By choosing a premium replacement gear from Fastrax, you're investing in consistent performance, reduced wear on your drive system, and the reliability required for serious RC enthusiasts who demand the best from their equipment.
Key Features
- 48DP Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch diametral pitch (48DP) ensures this gear is compatible with the vast majority of modern RC car gearboxes and transmission systems found in popular models across the UK. This standardised specification means you can confidently select this gear knowing it will fit your existing drivetrain without modification or compatibility concerns.
- 18-Tooth Configuration — The 18-tooth tooth count strikes an ideal balance between acceleration and top-end speed characteristics, making this pinion suitable for diverse driving styles and racing disciplines. This configuration works particularly well for drivers seeking mid-range performance without sacrificing either low-end torque or maximum velocity.
- Aluminium 7075 Construction — Manufactured from aerospace-grade aluminium 7075 alloy, this pinion gear offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that outperforms standard steel gears. Aluminium 7075 is recognised in the RC industry for its superior durability, resistance to wear, and ability to maintain precision tolerances throughout extended use, making it an excellent investment for serious RC car enthusiasts.
- Precision Engineering — Fastrax employs strict manufacturing tolerances to ensure each pinion gear meshes perfectly with your spur gear, providing smooth power delivery and minimising efficiency losses. Precision-cut teeth reduce noise, vibration and drivetrain stress, resulting in longer component life and more reliable performance during competitive racing or recreational driving.
- Direct Replacement Component — This pinion gear serves as a direct replacement for worn or damaged gears in your existing RC car setup, allowing you to maintain consistent performance specifications without requiring a complete drivetrain overhaul. Keeping spare pinion gears on hand ensures you can quickly return to racing after wear or damage occurs.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 48DP 18T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of drivetrain component engineering for modern RC cars and radio controlled vehicles. The 48-pitch specification indicates the number of teeth per inch of diameter, a standardised measurement system used throughout the global RC industry that ensures compatibility across manufacturers. With 18 teeth in this configuration, you're looking at a gear ratio component that delivers approximately 3:1 reduction when paired with a standard 54-tooth spur gear, a common pairing in many RC setups. The aluminium 7075 material selection is particularly significant; this aerospace-grade alloy offers tensile strength exceeding 570 MPa whilst maintaining the lightweight properties essential for optimising RC car acceleration and handling. Unlike lower-grade aluminium alloys or steel alternatives, 7075-T6 (the typical heat treatment) provides superior fatigue resistance, meaning the gear resists stress-related failure even during extended high-load driving sessions. The precision manufacturing process ensures concentricity within strict tolerances, critical for smooth meshing with your spur gear and even load distribution across all teeth. This engineering approach minimises backlash in your drivetrain, translating to more responsive throttle input and improved power delivery consistency—factors that make measurable differences during competitive RC racing or demanding off-road bashings. Whether you're running a brushless or brushed motor system, 2WD or 4WD configuration, this pinion gear adapts to your existing setup with minimal hassle, making it a universal upgrade suitable for countless popular RC models available throughout the UK market.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Fastrax 48DP 18T pinion gear compatible with my RC car? — The 48DP (48 diametral pitch) specification is the industry standard used across the vast majority of modern RC cars and remote control vehicles available in the UK. As long as your vehicle uses a standard 48DP gearbox, this pinion will fit directly. We recommend checking your vehicle's documentation or contacting our expert team to confirm compatibility with your specific model before purchasing.
- Why choose aluminium 7075 over steel pinion gears? — Aluminium 7075 alloy offers several significant advantages over traditional steel alternatives. It provides superior strength-to-weight ratio, meaning lighter rotating components that reduce inertia and improve acceleration. The material resists wear exceptionally well, maintains precision tolerances longer, and dissipates heat more effectively. For competitive RC racing and serious hobbyists, these performance benefits justify the investment in premium aluminium components.
- What tooth count should I choose for my driving style? — The 18-tooth configuration provides an excellent all-around option suitable for most driving disciplines. Fewer teeth (like 16T) deliver higher top speed but slightly reduced acceleration, whilst more teeth (like 20T or 22T) increase torque and acceleration at the expense of maximum velocity. The 18T is the sweet spot for drivers wanting balanced performance across various conditions and track layouts.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Replacement frequency depends on driving intensity and conditions. Competitive racers might replace gears every few months, whilst recreational drivers may extend replacement intervals to six months or longer. Monitor your gear for tooth wear, chipping, or damaged teeth; these are clear indicators that replacement is necessary. Keeping spare pinion gears in your toolbox ensures you're never sidelined by gear failure during important driving sessions.
- How does pinion gear selection affect my RC car's performance? — Your pinion gear selection directly influences your vehicle's acceleration curve, top-end speed, and motor efficiency. The tooth count ratio between pinion and spur gear determines your overall drive ratio; changing pinion size is the quickest way to fine-tune performance without replacing your motor or ESC. For circuit racing, you might select lower-tooth pinions for higher speeds; for off-road bashers negotiating obstacles, higher-tooth pinions provide better acceleration and torque.
