Overview
The Associated 12mm Big Bore Rear Spring in Blue (2.30lbs) is an essential tuning component for serious RC enthusiasts running Team Associated 1/10 scale platform vehicles. This optional suspension spring is specifically engineered for use with the optional 12mm Big Bore Shock Set, allowing you to fine-tune your rear suspension balance and responsiveness across a wide variety of track surfaces. Whether you're competing in organised RC racing events or enjoying weekend bashing sessions, this precision-engineered spring gives you the control you need to optimise your vehicle's handling characteristics.
As a dedicated RC car UK enthusiast, you'll appreciate that suspension tuning is one of the most powerful performance tools available to you. By selecting the correct spring rate, you can dramatically alter how your RC buggy, short course truck, or buggy behaves on the track. The blue 2.30lbs spring sits in the middle of the Associated Big Bore spring range, making it an excellent starting point for many drivers before moving towards softer or stiffer options depending on track conditions and driving style.
This spring is compatible with a comprehensive range of Team Associated 1/10 scale vehicles including the RC10B4, RC10B4.1, RC10B4.2, RC10B44, RC10B44.1, RC10B44.2, RC10T4, RC10T4.1, RC10T4.2, SC10, SC10.2, and SC10GT models. Whether you're racing a 1/10 buggy, competing with a short course truck, or enjoying any other Team Associated platform, this spring offers the precision tuning capability that serious RC drivers demand.
Key Features
- 12mm Big Bore Shock Compatibility — This spring is specifically designed for vehicles equipped with the optional Team Associated 12mm Big Bore Shock Set, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal performance when paired with this premium suspension upgrade.
- 2.30lbs Spring Rate — The blue-coded 2.30lbs rating provides a mid-range stiffness that balances chassis stability with traction and responsiveness, making it suitable for a variety of track conditions and driving styles without extreme bias towards softer or stiffer setups.
- Precision Suspension Tuning — By adjusting spring rates, you can control how much your chassis rolls in corners, how much traction you gain, how responsive your vehicle feels, and whether it's more likely to bottom out on bumpy sections, giving you fine-grained control over your vehicle's handling.
- Mid-Range Spring in Complete Range — As part of a complete range of spring rates (from 1.90lbs Black through to 2.40lbs Yellow), the blue 2.30lbs spring offers a proven middle ground before stepping up to stiffer or softer options for more extreme conditions.
- Increases Chassis Roll and Traction — Softer springs like this 2.30lbs option increase how much your chassis leans into corners and improve overall traction compared to stiffer alternatives, whilst also performing better in bumpy track conditions.
- Reduced Responsiveness Trade-off — Compared to stiffer spring rates, this softer option slightly reduces immediate steering responsiveness, but the trade-off in improved traction and bump absorption is often worth it on challenging terrain.
- Genuine Team Associated Component — As an official Associated part number AS91339, this spring is manufactured to precise specifications ensuring compatibility and reliability with your Team Associated RC platform.
Technical Performance
The Associated 12mm Big Bore Rear Spring Blue 2.3lb is engineered with precision to deliver consistent performance across varying track conditions. Understanding how spring rates affect your RC car's behaviour is fundamental to competitive RC racing in the UK. A 2.30lbs spring rate sits comfortably in the middle of the available range, making it ideal for many drivers who are still experimenting with suspension tuning. The spring mechanics work by controlling how much force is needed to compress the shock, which directly impacts how your chassis handles bumps, how much it rolls in corners, and ultimately how much traction your tyres maintain contact with the track surface. For drivers stepping up from softer (1.90lbs and 2.00lbs) springs, you'll notice slightly less chassis roll and slightly better steering precision. For those coming from stiffer springs (2.40lbs), you'll experience more compliance over bumps and increased grip. The engineering quality is typical of Team Associated's reputation for precision manufacturing, with consistent materials and tolerances that ensure this spring will deliver reliable performance season after season. The blue colour coding system used across the entire Associated spring range makes it simple to identify spring rates at a glance, reducing confusion when you're managing multiple springs for different track conditions or vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles is this 2.30lbs blue spring compatible with? — This spring is designed for any Team Associated 1/10 scale vehicle fitted with the optional 12mm Big Bore Shock Set. Compatible models include the RC10B4 series (B4, B4.1, B4.2), RC10B44 series (B44, B44.1, B44.2), RC10T4 series (T4, T4.1, T4.2), and the SC10 family (SC10, SC10.2, SC10GT). Always verify your vehicle has the Big Bore Shock Set installed before purchasing this spring.
- Is the blue 2.30lbs spring suitable for beginners? — Yes, this spring rate is actually an excellent starting point for drivers new to suspension tuning. It sits squarely in the middle of the available range, allowing you to experience its effects before experimenting with softer or stiffer options. Beginners will benefit from the improved traction and bump compliance this rate provides compared to stiffer alternatives.
- What's the difference between the blue 2.30lbs spring and other colours in the Associated range? — Associated colour-codes their Big Bore springs: Black is 1.90lbs (softest), Green is 2.00lbs, White is 2.10lbs, Grey is 2.20lbs, Blue is 2.30lbs (your current option), and Yellow is 2.40lbs (stiffest). Softer springs increase traction and bump compliance but increase chassis roll. Stiffer springs reduce chassis roll and improve responsiveness but may reduce traction and bottom out on bumpy tracks.
- How do I know which spring rate to choose for my track conditions? — Start with the blue 2.30lbs spring as a baseline. If your vehicle feels like it's rolling too much in corners or bottoming out frequently, try a stiffer spring (Grey 2.20lbs or Yellow 2.40lbs). If it feels harsh over bumps, unresponsive, or lacks traction, try a softer spring (White 2.10lbs or Green 2.00lbs). Most competitive drivers keep multiple spring rates on hand for different tracks.
- Can I use this spring with the standard shock set, or does it require Big Bore shocks? — This spring is specifically designed for use with the optional 12mm Big Bore Shock Set and will not fit standard Associated shocks. The 12mm bore diameter is larger than standard shocks, so you must have the Big Bore Shock Set installed on your vehicle.
- What advantages does this mid-range spring offer compared to extremes? — The blue 2.30lbs rate avoids the extremes of the range, offering a balanced approach that works well across a variety of track conditions. It provides noticeably better traction than stiffer springs while still maintaining reasonable responsiveness, and it offers better steering feel than much softer springs whilst retaining good bump compliance. This makes it ideal for drivers developing their skills or racing at multiple different tracks.
- Why do shock springs matter so much in RC racing? — Spring rates are one of the most effective performance tuning tools available. They directly control suspension stiffness, which affects chassis roll angle, traction, bump absorption, and overall handling balance. Professional RC competitors spend considerable time testing different spring rates, and having quality precision springs like these Associated components is essential to competitive performance.
