This is not merely a casual toy—it's a serious, high-performance ready-to-run RC car built on Carisma's proven M48S chassis platform, one of the most respected foundations in 1/8 scale on-road RC racing. Every component, from the lightweight chassis to the metal gear differentials and brushless motor system, has been selected to deliver responsive, engaging driving dynamics. The HKS Skyline BNR32 GR.A represents the perfect marriage of collectible authenticity and genuine performance capability, making it an outstanding choice for UK RC enthusiasts looking for a premium, feature-rich brushless RC model.
Key Features
- Lightweight 3mm G10 Chassis Plate — The long-wheelbase chassis is constructed from lightweight G10 composite material, which reduces flex and ensures consistent, responsive handling during aggressive cornering and acceleration. This rigid foundation is essential for translating your radio inputs into precise vehicle movement, particularly important in on-road RC driving where precision matters.
- Fully Ball-Raced Dedicated 4WD System — Every rotating component in the drivetrain benefits from ball-race bearings, eliminating friction and ensuring smooth, efficient power delivery to all four wheels. This dedicated 4WD system maximises traction and stability across various surfaces, giving you confidence in any driving condition and the ability to tackle more challenging terrain than 2WD alternatives.
- Metal Gear Differentials with Centre Gear Diff — Rather than plastic gears, this model features durable metal gears throughout, including a dedicated centre differential that intelligently balances front-to-rear power distribution. This engineering allows the vehicle to maintain grip whilst cornering, preventing wheel spin and delivering superior traction on both smooth tarmac and textured surfaces.
- 550 Size Sensorless Brushless Motor — Brushless motors deliver more consistent power delivery, greater efficiency, and dramatically longer runtime compared to brushed alternatives. The 550 size provides excellent power-to-weight ratio, generating responsive acceleration whilst maintaining control and reliability. This motor works seamlessly with the included ARC-3 ESC for 3S-compatible performance.
- NEW ARC-3 Sensorless Brushless ESC with XT60 Connector — The advanced electronic speed controller efficiently manages power distribution from your battery to the motor and servos. The XT60 connector provides a secure, reliable electrical connection that's become standard across the hobby, ensuring easy battery compatibility with common RC power solutions available across the UK.
- Oil-Filled Coil-Over Shocks Front and Rear — These sophisticated suspension components absorb impacts and maintain consistent tyre contact with the ground during high-speed driving. The oil-filled design provides predictable damping characteristics that resist fade, even during extended driving sessions, ensuring your handling remains consistent throughout the day.
- Anti-Roll Bars Front and Rear — These suspension components work together to reduce body roll during cornering, keeping the chassis flatter and the tyres planted firmly on the ground. The result is more confident turn-in, faster cornering speeds, and a vehicle that responds more naturally to your steering inputs when tackling challenging courses.
- Racing Period Connect 2-Piece Wheels — Injection-moulded for accuracy, these lightweight racing wheels capture the authentic period-correct appearance of the original HKS Skyline, whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for genuine RC performance. The 12mm hex fitment is standard across the hobby, allowing easy wheel swaps and customisation.
- Racing Slick Tyres — These specialised on-road tyres provide maximum contact patch and grip, essential for competitive lap times and controlled high-speed driving. The slick tread pattern is optimised for smooth surfaces, allowing the vehicle to corner with precision and acceleration with confidence.
- Officially Licensed 1990 Nissan Skyline BNR32 Nismo Body — Every detail, from the stunning colour scheme to precise logo placements, has been meticulously crafted to reflect the spirit of the classic GT-R. Injection-moulded door mirrors and a detailed rear spoiler add scale authenticity whilst contributing to aerodynamic function during high-speed runs.
- CTX-2000HP High Power 2.4GHz Radio System — This full-sized, full-function radio system operates on the F.H.S.S (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) protocol, providing reliable interference-free control across multiple channels. The 2.4GHz frequency is standard worldwide, ensuring compatibility and consistent performance in any RC environment across the UK.
- Limited Edition Collectible—999 Pieces Worldwide — This model's production is strictly limited, making it a genuine collector's piece. For enthusiasts seeking both driving performance and investment potential, the scarcity of this HKS collaboration ensures long-term appeal and desirability within the RC community.
Technical Performance
The Carisma M48S HKS Skyline BNR32 GR.A represents the convergence of meticulous engineering and motorsport authenticity. At 1/8 scale with a 319mm wheelbase and 231mm width, this model delivers genuine driving dynamics whilst maintaining faithful proportions to the full-size icon. The brushless 550 motor paired with the ARC-3 ESC creates a responsive, efficient power delivery system that's 3S LiPo compatible, meaning you can harness the performance of modern lithium-polymer batteries available from UK RC suppliers. The gearing configuration—43T spur gear and 12T pinion—has been precisely calculated to provide engaging throttle response and satisfying acceleration without sacrificing longevity. The fully ball-raced 4WD drivetrain with metal gear differentials distributes power intelligently to all four wheels, whilst the centre gear differential maximises both grip and power delivery, critical for maintaining traction through the challenging demands of on-road racing. The oil-filled coil-over suspension with front and rear anti-roll bars provides sophisticated handling characteristics, resisting fade during extended sessions and maintaining consistent grip as you push the vehicle harder. Built on a lightweight 3mm G10 chassis, this model resists flex and chassis twist, translating every steering input into precise vehicle movement. The racing slick tyres and period-correct wheels are engineered to work together, maximising contact patch and allowing confident high-speed cornering. Everything from the brushless motor efficiency to the sealed bearing system reflects Carisma's commitment to performance-first engineering, making this ready-to-run model genuinely competitive in club racing environments whilst remaining accessible and enjoyable for recreational driving.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Carisma M48S HKS Skyline BNR32 GR.A suitable for beginners to RC cars? — This model is rated as Skill Level 3, indicating intermediate experience is beneficial. Whilst the ready-to-run format means it arrives fully assembled and ready for immediate driving, the sophisticated suspension setup and brushless motor system require basic understanding of battery charging, ESC programming, and maintenance. If you're new to RC, this model represents an excellent second or third purchase after mastering the basics with a more beginner-friendly ready-to-run car. However, with proper guidance from the Carisma manual and experienced RC enthusiasts, dedicated beginners can certainly operate this model successfully.
- What battery does the Carisma M48S HKS Skyline BNR32 require? — This model uses a 3S LiPo battery configuration (7.4 volts nominal) thanks to its 3S-friendly ARC-3 ESC. The XT60 connector ensures compatibility with modern RC batteries widely available throughout the UK. We recommend a 5000mAh capacity for extended runtime, and you'll need an appropriate LiPo charger with balance-charging capability to maintain battery health and safety. Always store your LiPo battery in a fireproof safety sack when not in use.
- How does the HKS Skyline compare to the standard Carisma M48S Nissan Skyline GT-R? — Both models share the proven M48S chassis platform, but the HKS Skyline GR.A represents a higher-specification variant developed in collaboration with HKS Japan. The HKS model features upgraded gearing (43T spur vs 44T on the standard version), the newer ARC-3 ESC, and the enhanced CTX-2000HP high power radio system. Additionally, the HKS model is officially licensed in collaboration with HKS Japan and limited to 999 pieces, making it a premium collectible variant alongside being a performance-focused racing platform.
- Is this a genuine ready-to-run RC car that needs no assembly? — Yes, the Carisma M48S HKS Skyline BNR32 arrives fully assembled and ready to run (RTR). All you need to supply is a charged 3S LiPo battery and AA batteries for the transmitter. The only assembly requirement is fitting your battery and receiver into the vehicle before your first drive, a task taking just minutes.
- What is the wheelbase and how does it affect handling? — The 319mm wheelbase with 231mm width places this model in the long-wheelbase (LWB) category, providing excellent stability at high speeds and predictable handling characteristics. The longer wheelbase resists sudden direction changes, making the vehicle more forgiving for newer drivers whilst still delivering precise control for experienced competitors. The proportions faithfully match the original 1/8 scale representation of the BNR32.
- Can I use this model for competitive RC racing? — Absolutely. The Carisma M48S platform is renowned in club racing environments for its competitive performance. The brushless motor, metal gear differentials, sophisticated suspension, and precise handling make it entirely capable of competitive lap times when properly maintained and tuned. However, you may wish to consider additional tuning components and spare parts to keep the vehicle in racing condition.
- What type of surfaces can this vehicle drive on? — This is primarily an on-road model designed for smooth tarmac and finished surfaces. The racing slick tyres and suspension setup are optimised for on-road driving. Whilst the 4WD system provides traction on various surfaces, avoid prolonged off-road use as this may cause premature tyre and component wear.
- How long will the battery last on a single charge? — Runtime depends on driving style, battery capacity, and ambient temperature. Most 5000mAh 3S LiPo batteries provide 15-25 minutes of continuous driving, though high-performance driving depletes batteries faster. We recommend purchasing two or three batteries and a quality multi-charger to maximise your driving time.
- Is this model waterproof? — The Carisma M48S is not specifically waterproofed against water immersion. Whilst brief contact with light rain or puddles typically causes no issues, avoid intentionally driving through water or submerging components. The brushless electronics and bearing system are sealed against dust and light moisture, but electronics can be damaged by sustained water contact.
- What makes this HKS variant special compared to other RC on-road cars? — The HKS Skyline BNR32 GR.A combines several exceptional qualities: it's an officially licensed collaboration with HKS Japan, limited to just 999 pieces making it a genuine collectible, it features a proven race-winning chassis platform, and it delivers immediate ready-to-run performance. The fusion of motorsport heritage, Japanese engineering excellence, and genuine performance capability makes this model stand out amongst brushless RC on-road cars available in the UK market.
