Technical Performance
The Futaba 12K operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency band using both T-FHSS Air and S-FHSS transmission protocols, delivering robust interference-free communication with RF power output of 100mW EIRP (effective isotropic radiated power). The transmitter is powered by a 6.0V HT5F1800B NiMH battery (1,800 mAh capacity) which provides sufficient runtime for extended flying sessions and is charged using the included 230V AC mains charger. The system features switchable protocols, allowing you to select T-FHSS Air mode for full telemetry capability or S-FHSS mode for non-telemetry operation, depending on your receiver type and flying requirements. The included R3008SB receiver measures just 24.9 × 47.3 × 14.3mm and weighs only 10.1g, making it ideal for installation in compact fuselages without compromising aircraft balance or performance. The receiver operates with a rated voltage of 4.8-7.4V DC and can handle operating voltages from 4.0-8.4V DC, making it compatible with standard 5V servo configurations as well as modern high-voltage servos. Diversity aerial design in the R3008SB ensures optimal signal reception across the entire flying field, whilst S-Bus output enables clean integration with multiple servos and sensors through a single connection point. The transmitter's 100mW output provides excellent range for recreational RC flying whilst remaining within UK legal transmission limits. The satin black finish with silver accents provides professional aesthetics whilst the compact case (800g total shipping weight including all accessories) is designed for portability without sacrificing ergonomic control layout. Whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters with complex swashplate requirements, gliders with multiple control surfaces, or multicopters with stabilisation systems, the 12K's engineering delivers the precision and reliability expected from Futaba's professional-grade equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Futaba 12K suitable for RC beginners? — Whilst the 12K is technically accessible to beginners due to its intuitive menu system and backlit display, it is more appropriately pitched at intermediate to advanced RC pilots who require 14-channel capability and telemetry functions. Beginners typically require simpler 6-8 channel systems with fewer aircraft-type programming options. However, if you're committed to learning helicopter or advanced multicopter flying from the outset, the 12K's dedicated programming for these aircraft types makes it a good long-term investment.
- What is the difference between T-FHSS and S-FHSS modes? — T-FHSS Air is a bidirectional communication system that supports full telemetry, allowing you to monitor receiver data and aircraft sensors on your transmitter display. S-FHSS is a standard frequency-hopping spread spectrum system without telemetry capability, but both provide secure interference-free 2.4 GHz operation. The 12K allows you to switch between modes depending on your receiver type and flying requirements.
- What battery does the Futaba 12K need? — The transmitter is supplied with a 6.0V HT5F1800B NiMH battery (1,800 mAh capacity) and includes a 230V AC mains charger. For extended flying sessions or as an optional upgrade, the FT2F2100B Li-Fe battery is available (note: this requires a dedicated Li-Fe charger, not the standard charger supplied with the radio).
- Can I expand the model memory beyond 30? — Yes, the 12K includes 30 internal model memories as standard, but this can be expanded significantly by inserting a Micro SD card (32MB-2GB SD cards or 4GB-32GB SDHC cards supported) into the dedicated slot in the battery compartment.
- Does the 12K support software updates? — Yes, when new T12K transmitter software versions are released by Futaba, you can update your radio's firmware using a Micro SD card. This ensures your system remains current with the latest features and optimisations.
- What is the flight range of the 12K system? — The R3008SB receiver features diversity aerials for robust signal reception across an entire RC flying field. The 100mW EIRP transmission power provides excellent range for recreational RC operations. Actual range depends on antenna orientation, terrain, and interference sources, but the diversity design ensures consistent coverage across typical flying areas.
- Is the R3008SB receiver high-voltage compatible? — Yes, the included R3008SB receiver features HV (high voltage) capability, allowing it to work with modern high-voltage servos operating at 7.4V or higher, whilst remaining compatible with standard 5V servo systems.
- Can I use the 12K with multiple aircraft? — Yes, the 12K stores 30 different model configurations internally (expandable via Micro SD), allowing you to manage an entire fleet of aircraft. Each stored configuration includes all mixing, switch, and trim settings specific to that aircraft.
- What is the S.Bus2 system and why do I need it? — S.Bus2 is Futaba's digital control protocol that consolidates multiple servos, gyros, and telemetry sensors into a single connection point, dramatically reducing wiring complexity and weight in your aircraft. The 12K includes an S.Bus2 port and data editor for programming sensors and servos connected via this system.
- Is the Futaba 12K Mode 1 or Mode 2? — This specific model (FUT05003122-3) is configured for Mode 1 (throttle and elevator on the right stick). Futaba also supplies this system in Mode 2 configuration if required, which is the dominant configuration in many regions.
- What aircraft types are supported by the 12K? — The 12K includes dedicated programming for helicopters (5 flight conditions with swashplate mixing), gliders (4 wing types and 2 tail types), multicopters (with dedicated menu and stabilisation mixing), and fixed-wing aircraft. Six swash types are available for helicopter operations, with pre-configured mixing functions optimised for each aircraft category.
