  • Dual Edit Buttons and Push Dial Interface — Two dedicated edit buttons combined with an intuitive push dial allow you to navigate menus and adjust settings with precision, and the quick-return HOME button lets you immediately exit any menu screen during flight without fumbling through nested options when you need to refocus on flying.
  • Vibration Alert Function — Beyond traditional buzzer alarms, the 12K includes selectable vibration feedback that alerts you to various conditions and alarms through haptic feedback in the transmitter handle, a feature that helps you stay aware of system status even in noisy flying fields or when wearing headsets.
  • Expandable Model Memory — The 12K includes 30 model memory slots (expandable), allowing you to store detailed configurations for all your aircraft—each with its own mixes, rates, trim settings, and flight parameters—so switching between models requires just a simple menu selection.
  • Micro SD Card Support for Updates and Backup — The transmitter supports standard Micro SD cards (32MB to 2GB SD, 4GB to 32GB SDHC), enabling you to back up your valuable model data and apply firmware updates when new features are released by Futaba, ensuring your transmitter stays current with the latest improvements.
  • Large Backlit LCD Screen — The transmitter features a spacious backlit display that shows all essential flight parameters, telemetry data, and menu options clearly, with backlighting for use in low-light conditions such as early morning or late evening flying sessions common in UK flying clubs.
  • Included R3008SB 8/18-Channel Receiver — The compact R3008SB receiver measures just 24.9 x 47.3 x 14.3 mm and weighs only 10.1g, making it ideal for integration into various aircraft types without significant weight penalty, and it provides both 8-channel PWM output for standard servos and expanded channel support through S.BUS2 connectivity.
  • Complete Ready-to-Use Package — Everything arrives in one box: the T12K transmitter, R3008SB receiver, HT5F1800B NiMH battery pack, and charger, meaning you can begin configuring your aircraft immediately without purchasing additional components.

Technical Performance

The Futaba 12K represents an engineering achievement in RC aircraft radio systems, combining robust hardware with intelligent software design. The transmitter itself operates from a 6.0V HT5F1800B NiMH battery pack (1,800mAh capacity), providing extended flight session runtime while maintaining stable voltage throughout your flying day. The 2.4 GHz T-FHSS Air system operates at 100mW EIRP, sufficient for reliable control at the ranges typical of most sport and recreational flying in the UK, whether you're flying at inland airfields, coastal locations, or organised RC clubs. The receiver's operating voltage range of 4.0 to 8.4V DC (rated at 4.8–7.4V) provides flexibility for different power sources, from single LiPo cells through to multiple NiMH batteries or higher-voltage packs common in larger aircraft installations. The compact design of the R3008SB receiver—weighing just 10.1 grams with its compact 24.9 x 47.3 x 14.3mm footprint—means installation in almost any aircraft type is feasible without significant weight penalty or balance complications. The S.BUS2 protocol enables daisy-chaining of multiple receivers, servos, and sensor modules on a single data line, a significant engineering advantage that reduces complexity, weight, and installation time compared to traditional PWM-only systems. The 14-channel capacity (12 linear + 2 switch) accommodates the most demanding aircraft configurations, from standard aileron-elevator-rudder-throttle (AERT) fixed-wing setups to complex helicopter swashplate mixing, independent multicopter motor control, or glider configurations with motorised retracts and flap sequencing. Build quality throughout reflects Futaba's reputation for durability; the transmitter chassis is robust black plastic housing that withstands the handling, drops, and environmental exposure typical of RC flying, whilst the receiver is engineered with quality components designed to survive vibration, temperature variations, and the electromagnetic environment of powered aircraft.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Futaba 12K suitable for RC aircraft beginners? — The 12K is better suited to intermediate and advanced RC pilots rather than absolute beginners, due to its 14-channel complexity and advanced telemetry features. However, the pre-configured model templates make initial setup easier than fully manual programming systems. If you're new to RC flying, consider starting with a simpler trainer transmitter before moving to the 12K as your skills develop.
  • What is the difference between T-FHSS Air and S-FHSS modes? — T-FHSS Air is Futaba's advanced protocol offering 14-channel control with bidirectional telemetry, allowing data to flow both from transmitter to receiver and receiver back to transmitter. S-FHSS is an alternative Futaba protocol that provides compatibility with a broader range of older receivers. The 12K can switch between both modes, giving you flexibility depending on which receivers you use.
  • How long does the battery last on a full charge? — The included HT5F1800B battery pack (1,800mAh at 6.0V) typically provides several hours of transmitter operation for typical flying sessions, though actual runtime depends on backlight usage, vibration function activation, and how frequently you access the LCD menus. Most pilots can easily handle 2–3 full flying sessions before needing to recharge.
  • What type of charger is included? — The package includes a standard charger compatible with the HT5F1800B NiMH battery pack. Always use the supplied charger or a quality NiMH-compatible charger to avoid battery damage.
  • Can I use the 12K with helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and multicopters? — Yes, absolutely. The 12K includes six pre-configured swash types for helicopters, six main wing configurations with three tail options for fixed-wing aircraft, and dedicated multicopter and glider setups, making it a true multi-platform system suitable for any aircraft type you choose to fly.
  • What is S.BUS2 and why does it matter? — S.BUS2 is Futaba's serial bus protocol that allows multiple devices (servos, gyros, telemetry sensors) to connect to the receiver via a single data line rather than individual servo cables. This dramatically reduces installation complexity, weight, and clutter, whilst improving reliability compared to traditional PWM-only setups. If your aircraft uses modern Futaba or compatible servos and accessories, S.BUS2 is a significant engineering advantage.
  • Is the R3008SB receiver waterproof? — The R3008SB is designed for aircraft applications and is constructed to withstand typical flying conditions, but it is not submersible. Protect the receiver from direct water immersion and excessive moisture during installation and use.
  • How many model memories can I store? — The 12K provides 30 model memory slots out of the box, which is expandable if you need additional slots. For most pilots, 30 slots is more than sufficient for storing configurations of multiple aircraft with different flight characteristics and settings.
  • Can I back up my model data? — Yes, the 12K supports Micro SD cards (not included), allowing you to save all your model configurations as a backup in case of accidental loss. Simply copy your data to the card and you can easily restore it if needed, or transfer settings between multiple T12K transmitters.
