Technical Performance
The AT9S Pro transmitter weighs just 828 grams without batteries, making it lightweight enough for comfortable all-day flying sessions without causing hand fatigue or neck strain from the included neckstrap. The compact dimensions of 180mm length, 213mm height with aerial folded, and 63mm width (excluding carry handle) mean the transmitter fits easily in flight cases and travel bags, yet the transmitter feels substantial and well-built in hand thanks to quality materials and precise engineering. The transmission system operates on the 2.4GHz frequency band using FHSS and DSSS spread spectrum technology, delivering interference rejection and range performance that easily exceeds the typical flying distances used in standard RC operations. The included R9DS receiver provides 9 channels of PWM output in standard mode or 10 channels in SBUS/PWM dual-signal mode, with switchable operation modes that adapt to different servo configurations; when using SBUS mode, the receiver outputs SBUS on channel 9 while providing independent PWM on channels 1-3 (useful for three-channel helicopter throttle control) and channels 6-10 for other functions. The receiver operates on supply voltages from 3V to 10V, making it compatible with virtually any model power system from small gliders running 2S LiPo batteries through large aircraft with 4S or higher voltage systems. RSSI testing conducted at 30cm distance between transmitter and receiver should show signal strength readings between 0 and -30dBm, with readings closer to 0 indicating superior signal strength; this testing protocol helps ensure reliable flight performance before committing aircraft to the air. The transmitter accepts input voltage from 7.4V minimum (the typical voltage of a fully discharged 2S LiPo battery) up to 15V maximum (representing a 4S LiPo battery with good charge), with recommended alarm voltage settings of 7.4V for 2S batteries, 11.1V for 3S batteries and 14.8V for 4S batteries to prevent over-discharge damage to lithium cells. The system supports up to 12 channels of control when connected to compatible 12-channel receivers like the R12DS or R12DSM, with the default configuration set to 10 channels and easily adjustable through the menu system. Receiver antenna placement significantly affects signal quality and range, with RadioLink's engineering guidance recommending that antennae be kept as vertical as possible and positioned away from metal components, carbon fibre structures and motor/ESC interference sources; for larger models containing metal structures or components, mounting antennae on opposite sides of the airframe ensures optimal signal reception at all flight attitudes.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the RadioLink AT9S Pro suitable for beginners in RC modelling? — Whilst the AT9S Pro is technically capable of supporting beginner-friendly fixed-wing aircraft and basic multirotor drones, it is specifically designed as an intermediate-level transmitter for pilots who already have some RC experience and want a system that grows with their expanding fleet. The colour LCD interface is more accessible than older button-based systems, and the comprehensive model memory means you won't need to reprogram settings when switching between different aircraft, but the depth of advanced features means there's genuinely something for everyone from intermediate to expert level.
- What batteries does the AT9S Pro transmitter need, and how long will it run? — The transmitter accepts either 8×AA batteries (alkaline or rechargeable NiMH) or alternatively 2S, 3S or 4S lithium polymer battery packs rated for 7.4V to 15V input. RadioLink strongly recommends using dedicated lithium chargers and understanding lithium battery characteristics to prevent damage and fire risk. The transmitter should not be charged via the Micro USB port—this is exclusively for firmware upgrades, not charging. Runtime varies based on battery capacity and usage patterns, but typically provides several hours of continuous operation from eight AA batteries or comparable LiPo packs.
- What is the difference between the AT9S and AT9S Pro, and which should I choose? — The AT9S Pro represents an enhanced version of the original AT9S, with additional features and improved capability; the main distinction centres on the AT9S Pro's enhanced firmware, expanded feature set and generally superior performance across all operating parameters. Once you own an original AT9S, it cannot be upgraded to Pro specification through firmware updates alone—if you specifically need Pro features, you must purchase the AT9S Pro model.
- How do I bind the receiver to the transmitter, and can I use this system with other manufacturers' receivers? — RadioLink receivers and transmitters must be bound to each other by holding the receiver's ID SET switch for one second or longer until the LED enters a flashing state, then releasing it; when the LED becomes solid, binding is complete and the transmitter should display a signal tower icon on the LCD screen. RadioLink products are proprietary and closed-architecture—RadioLink transmitters only work reliably with RadioLink receivers, and RadioLink receivers only operate with RadioLink transmitters. However, when using the external Crossfire high-frequency module, the AT9S Pro can communicate with Crossfire receivers instead. Other third-party brand receivers are not compatible with this transmitter.
- What model aircraft types can I control with the AT9S Pro's 10 channels? — The transmitter supports fixed-wing power aircraft, gliders with various aileron and flap configurations (1 aileron + 1 flap, 2 aileron + 1 flap, or 2 aileron + 2 flap), helicopters with full swashplate control, multirotors, radio-controlled cars and radio-controlled boats. Within each category, the advanced mixing functions including V-tail mixing, elevon mixing, aileron differential, snap roll control and others allow you to customise the control response to match your specific model's needs.
- Can I use the AT9S Pro as a trainer transmitter to teach someone else? — Yes, with the optional R8FM wireless trainer module installed, the AT9S Pro supports wireless trainer link functionality, allowing two transmitters to communicate with a single receiver. This enables experienced pilots to hand control to student pilots mid-flight and take it back instantly without interrupting the receiver connection—an invaluable training tool.
- What telemetry features does the AT9S Pro provide, and do I need additional sensors? — The transmitter includes receiver battery voltage and RSSI (signal strength) telemetry as standard features, displayed on the colour LCD screen. For enhanced telemetry including motor battery voltage monitoring, you need to add the optional PRM-01 return telemetry module. For GPS data including aircraft altitude, location coordinates, and climb/descent rates, you need the optional TS100 sensor. Neither of these modules is included as standard.
- How do I update the firmware, and where do I download new versions? — The transmitter includes a Micro USB port on its rear panel exclusively for firmware updates—this is not for charging batteries, and using Android phone chargers on this port risks damage. Connect the transmitter to a computer via Micro USB cable and visit RadioLink's official website at www.radiolink.com to download the latest firmware versions and follow their step-by-step upgrade instructions. Firmware updates are free and add new features and improvements periodically.
- What is the control range, and how do I test signal strength before flying? — RadioLink specifies that the AT9S Pro delivers full-range control suitable for normal RC operations, with signal quality verified by testing RSSI values. Before each flight, connect the transmitter and receiver with antennae held vertically parallel at approximately 30cm distance, access the telemetry screen on the LCD, and verify that RSSI values fall between 0 and -30dBm, with values closer to 0 indicating superior signal strength. This simple test prevents signal-related failures from causing loss of control during flight.
