Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RC Motorcycle RTR Overview

Powering off the line, speeding down straights, and leaning through curves and turns, a unique harmony develops between a bike and its rider. The two intuitively become one. Despite its power, the two-wheeler feels light and nimble as it reacts instantly to your cues - as if it's simply an extension of you.

That's also how it feels to drive Losi Promoto RC bikes.

The Losi Promoto-MX was the first RC dirt bike to accurately reproduce the full experience and pure fun of riding a real motorcycle. Now, for on-road RC and motorcycle fans, Losi presents the Promoto-SM - the most authentic supermoto experience ever offered in a radio-control bike.

The Promoto-SM is particularly well-suited for concrete, asphalt, blacktop, and other hard surfaces found at neighborhood streets, local parks, and parking lots. Key differences from the Promoto-MX include new Pro-Line Racing OE (Original Equipment) SM street tyres on smaller wheels, a more powerful front brake caliper, and revised lean bar wheels. The Promoto-SM can lean farther than its dirt bike counterpart, and the lean bar tyres decrease noise and offer better traction on hard surfaces.

The Losi Promoto-SM also looks like a true supermoto bike. Its distinctive visual details include hand guards, shortened front fender, and officially licensed FXR graphics and rider gear.

What the Promoto-SM shares with the breakthrough Promoto-MX is an innovative blend of mechanical and electronic technology that work together to provide a realistic experience that no other RC bike can touch. The electronics include a 2700Kv motor and steel flywheel that are both mounted in the centre of the frame. The motor spins the flywheel at over 22,000 rpm to create a gyroscopic force for unparalleled stability. Patent-pending Spektrum MS6X technology takes your input from the Spektrum DX3PM transmitter and commands the Promoto-SM to lean, turn, and wheelie with unprecedented balance and finesse.

The mechanical technology is equally impressive. Losi's product development team studied full-size motorcycle suspension geometry to give Promoto RC bikes the same terrain handling characteristics. A rising rate rear suspension provides superior grip and prevents bottoming out in landings. Their completely new front fork design, with an internal spring and dampener, can be tuned by changing the silicone dampening fluid and also allows ride height adjustments. An innovative front and rear wheel braking system adds impressive stopping power, cutting the stopping distance in half compared to rear brake only.

Both technologies, electronic and mechanical, are why the Promoto platform performs better at high and low speeds than any previous RC motorcycle. Now, with the Losi Promoto-SM, there's an RC bike that really works - with tarmac-ready performance and style!

UPDATED LEAN BARS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
UPDATED LEAN BARS

The Promoto-SM lean bar positioning has been updated so it can lean farther than its dirt bike counterpart. New rubber lean bar tyres, mounted on bearings, reduce noise and offer better traction on hard surfaces. Adjustable stops are included for up and down travel, so you can dial in the bike for any surface or grip level. The lean bars also often help with crash recovery when the rear tyre has traction. If the bike is down on the track, simply hit the throttle to stand it upright and resume driving.

PATENT-PENDING SPEKTRUM MS6X TECHNOLOGY for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
PATENT-PENDING SPEKTRUM MS6X TECHNOLOGY

The included Spektrum DX3PM transmitter and SR6300PM receiver combine with patent-pending MS6X technology for unprecedented control. Promoto-SM drivers can maintain balance at high or low speeds while maneuvering over concrete, asphalt, blacktop, and other hard surfaces. For more aggressive driving and extreme cornering angles, use the MS6X knob to increase the lean angle.

ON THE FLY DRIVE MODES for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
"ON THE FLY" DRIVE MODES

The DX3PM has three preprogrammed drive modes that you can toggle between "on the fly" using your thumb on the A/B rocker switch.

  • Dirt Mode - Allows the Promoto-SM to pitch up enough without clipping the throttle for going up jump faces and obstacles, but helps prevent "wheelie-overs" by intuitively clipping the throttle output if the bike begins to pitch up too far.
  • Street Mode - Senses when the Promoto-SM starts to pitch up and clips the throttle quickly, getting the front tyre back on the ground to accelerate as much as possible.
  • Wheelie Control - Let 'em rip! Wheelie Control lets you hold wheelies on smooth surfaces all the way to top speed.
SMART TECHNOLOGY for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
SMART TECHNOLOGY

How much battery life is left on your bike? You don't have to guess. LED indicators on the DX3PM transmitter show you the remaining capacity of your Spektrum Smart batteries at glance! Using Spektrum Smart Technology, the Promoto-SM stores and shares critical performance data while you run. Smart technology also simplifies battery charging. When you connect a Smart battery to a Spektrum Smart charger, the battery's unique charging requirements upload automatically from its memory microchip through the IC connector's data wire to the Smart charger. Safe charging begins automatically! (You can receive additional telemetry information in real-time, such as speed, RPM, amp draw, ESC temperature, and more, by upgrading to the Spektrum DX5C or DX5 Pro transmitter.)

UPDATED BRAKE CALIPERS & PISTON for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
UPDATED BRAKE CALIPERS & PISTON

Although the original Promoto-MX front brake system worked well, the design team thought that improvements could be made. An all-new caliper and floating piston were designed to apply a larger pressure area to the brake pad. Also, a new Metal Injection Molded (MIM) piston shaft is installed on the bearings for smoother operation and a better seal again dust and debris. All of this adds up to a shorter stopping distance and more consistent braking operation.

FLYWHEEL UNIT for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
FLYWHEEL UNIT

The gyroscopic stabilization force created by its heavy steel flywheel - spinning at over 22,000 rpm with the 2700Kv motor - does wonders for the motorcycle's stability. Mounted as low and as far forward as possible in the frame, the flywheel unit enables the Promoto-SM to pivot around its centre point to improve jumping, changes of direction, and the accuracy of the bike's performance.

HEAD DAMPING for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
HEAD DAMPING

With eight pounds rapidly powering down the track, it takes quite a stiff servo saver spring setup to properly guide the Promoto-SM into the next turn. Like anything heavily sprung, the best way to control the strong springs is to dampen the movement. A key development for the Promoto platform is a fluid-filled friction chamber between the upper and lower head tube bearings. The chamber is filled with heavy 500,000cSt which dampens the servo saver well and helps to control any possible "head shake."

SERVO SAVER for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
SERVO SAVER

The servo saver's stiff circular springs, captured by bearing-mounted composite plates, provide consistency in steering with enough give to protect the servo. But that's not all. It also drastically improves the bike's performance when setting down from wheelies, landing from jumps, power sliding through a turn, and pushing the front tyre over a curb. It gives so the bike stays up.

NARROW CHASSIS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
NARROW CHASSIS

To capture the proper scale looks, the bike's electronics and battery all had to fit within a compact, narrow chassis. Requiring a special "shorty" battery would have made the design task simple, but the Promoto-SM product development team wanted to use a more convenient, standard size battery. Mission accomplished! A full-size 2S hardcase LiPo fits within the rider's seat, easy to access for quick battery changes. Pop in a charged pack and you're back in seconds to leading your competition.

REALISTIC RIDER FIGURE for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
REALISTIC RIDER FIGURE

The rider figures of other RC motorcycles are made entyrely of foam, which quickly fails. Promoto riders have a rubberized plastic exterior that can give and flex under impacts and flips. To keep the rider from bobbling around on the bike, the torso has a foam insert. It keeps the body firm during normal operation but still able to give under impact. With its updated gear, the Promoto-SM rider looks ready for aggressive on-road racing action!

PRO-LINE RACING OE (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT) SUPERMOTO STREET TYRES for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
PRO-LINE RACING OE (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT) SUPERMOTO STREET TYRES

The Promoto-SM is outfitted with new Pro-Line Racing OE (Original Equipment) Supermoto street tyres. In addition to complementing the bike's scale looks, the Supermoto tyres are designed specifically for the unique wear and traction requirements of supermoto-style road racing.

DISPLAY/MAINTENANCE & STARTING STANDS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
DISPLAY/MAINTENANCE & STARTING STANDS

Working on a real bike is easier with a proper bike stand. So the Promoto-SM had to have one, too! The included stand for maintenance and display is modeled after a real bike stand, complete with graphics. To keep the bike balanced on the stand, the Promoto-SM keys into the bike stand. But taking it a step further, a hands-free starting stand is also included. This starting stand cradles the rear tyre and holds the bike upright and ready for a gate-style start.

TRUE-SPOKE WHEELS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
TRUE-SPOKE WHEELS

Before Losi introduced the Promoto platform, no other manufacturers had been able to create proper-looking spoked wheels with the durability needed for an RC bike. It took the determination and expertise of the Losi product development team to make it happen. For the Promoto-SM, the realistic, true-spoke wheels are smaller, in keeping with the design of real on-road motorcycles.

PLASTICS WITH GRAPHICS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
PLASTICS WITH GRAPHICS

Big or small, no street bike would look right without a proper body panel kit wrapped in vinyl graphics. The Promoto-SM has all the goods - fenders, number plate, fork guards, front and rear side panels - all looking fresh wrapped in updated, highly durable vinyl graphics.

REALISTIC DETAILS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
REALISTIC DETAILS

Even tiny touches matter, and Losi hasn't overlooked a thing - exhaust, brake line, foot pegs, brake rotors, you name it. The Promoto-SM also includes hand guards, recreating those used on full-size supermoto bikes to protect the brake and clutch levers during a fall.

REAR FENDER for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
REAR FENDER

Wheelies happen. A normal, rigid-mounted rear fender would really take a beating. But the Promoto-SM has the solution - a hinged elastomer sprung rear fender that can deflect out of the way during wheelies to expose a durable nylon rear bumper. It substantially increases the durability of the rear fender.

FRONT CRASH STRUCTURE for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
FRONT CRASH STRUCTURE

The front crash structure of the Promoto-SM is rigid during normal running, but compresses until the front tyre bottoms into the chassis frame to absorb front impacts. That protects the front fork tubes from bending, keeping them safe and true.

SKID PLATES & AIR VENTS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
SKID PLATES & AIR VENTS

Molded composite skid plates line the front and bottom of the Promoto-SM chassis. They offer protection during crashes and keep debris out of the chassis, helping to protect the electronics mounted inside. The air vents on each side of the bike come closed in the box, but can be opened to provide cooling airflow when ambient temperatures are high.

TWIN ALUMINIUM PLATE CHASSIS for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
TWIN ALUMINIUM PLATE CHASSIS

Twin aluminium chassis plates house and protect all of the bike's electronics and help to give the Promoto-SM its realistically narrow appearance. They also give the frame the rigidity and durability required for harsh impacts.

FRONT FORK for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
FRONT FORK

The front fork of the Promoto-SM is another Losi innovation with an internal spring and dampener. Designed to work similar to normal RC shocks, the front fork tubes can be rebuilt and tuned by changing the silicone dampening fluid. Using counter-wound upper and lower springs, spacers can be used to adjust the ride height of the Promoto-SM as well. And maybe most importantly, they look awesome - just like the real deal.

RISING RATE REAR SUSPENSION for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
RISING RATE REAR SUSPENSION

Just like a real bike, the Promoto-SM has a rising rate rear suspension. The suspension starts soft around ride height, for smooth handling and a superior grip. It becomes firmer as it gets deeper into up travel, to provide proper preload on jumps and prevent bottoming out in landings. Dialed in with a full oil-filled coil-over shock, the Promoto-SM is ready to rip over any on-road surface.

BRUSHLESS POWER SYSTEM for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
BRUSHLESS POWER SYSTEM

The Promoto-SM comes out of the gates HOT with a powerful Spektrum Smart brushless power system. Its 4-pole 3652 3800Kv motor puts down the power while the 85A brushless ESC adds all the control you need. With massive 40+ mph top speeds on a 2S LiPo battery, the Promoto-SM power system rips!

HEAD ANGLE for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
HEAD ANGLE

After months of testing different trail settings, head angle, and steering ratios, the Promoto-SM product development team found the sweet spot. A head tube angle of 62.4 degrees gives it the best balance of bump handling, landing jumps, steering input, and "head shake" control on all surfaces.

RACE-INSPIRED SLIPPER CLUTCH for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
RACE-INSPIRED SLIPPER CLUTCH

As its 3800Kv Spektrum Firma Brushless motor puts out abundant power, the Promoto-SM's race inspired dual disc slipper clutch helps the rear tyre maintain traction on a variety of surfaces. The dual pad, spring pressurized slipper clutch takes inspiration from those that the TLR team uses to win races across the globe. It increases traction and protects the drivetrain without sacrificing explosive drive.

FRONT CABLE-DRIVEN DISC BRAKE for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
FRONT CABLE-DRIVEN DISC BRAKE

Hauling on your bike is a lot more fun when you've got good brakes. The motor can handle rear braking through the drivetrain, but like 1:1 motorcycles, most of the braking happens with the front tyre. To slow the Promoto-SM down from the front, the front brake uses a steel rotor, caliper-actuated brake pads, and servo-driven cable. It cuts your stopping distance in half.

REALISTIC CHAIN DRIVE for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
REALISTIC CHAIN DRIVE

We could not call the Promoto-SM a true street racing bike if wasn't chain driven. Steel links and 70 roller pins wrap around a 10-tooth steel drive sprocket and a 36-tooth aluminium hub sprocket. Regardless of conditions, the chain drive will drive the rear tyre efficiently and reliably.

READY-TO-RUN for the Losi 1/4 Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR RC Motorcycle
READY-TO-RUN

The Losi Promoto-SM comes fully assembled, with a high-quality Spektrum Smart radio system included and on-board electronics already installed. Even AA transmitter batteries are supplied! Just add a 2S LiPo battery with IC5 plug and a compatible charger and you're ready to ride.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Losi Promoto-SM suitable for RC beginners or only experienced riders? — The Promoto-SM is designed to be accessible to riders of various skill levels. Whilst the sophisticated technology and performance capabilities appeal to experienced RC enthusiasts, the three intelligent drive modes (Dirt, Street, and Wheelie Control) allow beginners to start in Street Mode with throttle clipping for stability, then progressively challenge themselves as they develop skills. The hands-free starting stand, included bike stand, and realistic handling feedback make learning intuitive, though the 40+ mph top speed means you should have some RC experience before operating at maximum velocity.
  • What makes the Promoto-SM different from the Promoto-MX dirt bike? — The Promoto-SM is engineered specifically for on-road racing on asphalt, concrete, and blacktop surfaces, whereas the Promoto-MX is designed for dirt and off-road terrain. Key differences include Pro-Line Racing OE supermoto street tyres on smaller wheels (compared to off-road tyres), an upgraded and more powerful front brake caliper, repositioned lean bars that allow greater lean angles, revised lean bar wheels with bearings that reduce noise and improve hard-surface traction, shortened front fender for supermoto styling, and officially licensed FXR graphics. Both share the same innovative flywheel, Spektrum MS6X technology, and patent-pending mechanical systems.
  • What battery does the Promoto-SM require and how long does it run? — The Promoto-SM requires a 2S 7.4V LiPo battery with either an EC5 or IC5 connector (sold separately). The specifications indicate 5000mAh capacity is recommended. Runtime varies depending on your driving style, terrain, and specific battery capacity, but a full 5000mAh 2S battery typically provides 15-25 minutes of continuous running at moderate speeds, with shorter runtimes during full-throttle racing. Spektrum Smart batteries work seamlessly with the included DX3PM transmitter for real-time capacity monitoring.
  • What is the top speed and does it work on different surfaces? — The Promoto-SM achieves 40+ mph top speeds on a 2S LiPo battery, making it one of the fastest RC motorcycles available. The bike is specifically optimised for hard surfaces including concrete, asphalt, blacktop, and sealed roads found at neighbourhood streets, local parks, and parking lots. The three intelligent drive modes allow you to adjust performance: Street Mode emphasises traction and throttle control for maximum grip, Wheelie Control allows unlimited wheelies on smooth surfaces, and Dirt Mode includes pitch-up tolerance for approaching small obstacles. The Pro-Line Racing OE supermoto street tyres are designed specifically for supermoto-style road racing, making the Promoto-SM the definitive on-road RC motorcycle choice.
  • Is the Promoto-SM waterproof and can it handle wet conditions? — Whilst the manufacturer specifications do not explicitly state an IP waterproofing rating, the Promoto-SM features sealed electronics housed within the twin aluminium chassis plates, skid plate protection, and air vents that can be closed to prevent debris ingestion. The sophisticated servo saver system and fluid-filled head damping chamber offer additional protection. However, because this is an advanced electronic system, it is recommended to avoid intentional water exposure and to dry the bike promptly if exposed to light rain or wet surfaces.
  • What radio system and transmitter does it use? — The Promoto-SM includes a Spektrum Smart DX3PM transmitter (DSMR protocol) and a Spektrum 6-Channel DSMR Promoto Receiver (SR6300PM). The DX3PM features an A/B rocker switch to toggle between three preprogrammed drive modes (Dirt, Street, and Wheelie Control) on the fly, LED battery indicators for Spektrum Smart battery capacity monitoring, and integration with Spektrum Smart technology for automatic charging profile detection. The system utilises Spektrum's reliable 2.4 GHz DSMR frequency with 6-channel capability and is fully compatible with all Promoto-series motorcycles.
  • Can you upgrade the transmitter for additional telemetry information? — Yes, the Promoto-SM works with additional Spektrum transmitters. By upgrading to a Spektrum DX5C or DX5 Pro transmitter, you unlock real-time telemetry including speed, RPM, amp draw, and ESC temperature monitoring, providing detailed performance data for race analysis and tuning optimisation. The included DX3PM remains capable for standard operation and drive mode selection.
  • What servos are included and what are their specifications? — The Promoto-SM includes two servos: a Spektrum S620PM Metal Gear Servo for steering control and a Spektrum SX108PM Micro Servo for front brake operation. The metal gear steering servo provides the stiffness required for the demanding servo saver system, whilst the micro servo offers precise brake modulation. Both are Spektrum digital servos with the precision and durability expected in a professional-grade RC motorcycle system.
  • How do the lean bars work and why are they important? — The innovative lean bar system is crucial to the Promoto-SM's realistic motorcycle handling. Updated lean bar positioning allows the bike to lean farther than the Promoto-MX dirt bike counterpart, with new rubber lean bar tyres mounted on bearings that reduce noise and provide excellent traction on hard surfaces. Adjustable stops allow you to dial in travel for any surface or grip level. During crashes where the rear wheel retains traction, hitting the throttle causes the bike to stand upright and resume driving, often assisted by the lean bars. This system replicates how real motorcycles behave, making recovery intuitive and extending the lifespan of the bike through reduced impact damage.
  • What is the difference between Street Mode and Wheelie Control? — Street Mode is the default performance setting designed for smooth, controlled on-road racing. When the bike begins to pitch up (front wheel lifting), the system quickly clips throttle output to bring the front tyre back to the ground, maximising acceleration whilst preventing unwanted wheelies. Wheelie Control removes this limitation, allowing you to hold extended wheelies all the way to top speed on smooth surfaces. You toggle between these modes (and Dirt Mode) using the DX3PM's A/B rocker switch without stopping, making it easy to adapt to track conditions on the fly.
  • How does the rising rate rear suspension work? — The rising rate rear suspension is scientifically designed based on full-size motorcycle geometry. Around ride height, the suspension is relatively soft for smooth handling and superior grip on the road surface. As the suspension compresses deeper into travel (such as during jumps or hard landings), the spring rate increases progressively, providing greater preload and stiffness to prevent bottoming out. This dual-rate behaviour is tuned via the oil-filled coil-over shock absorber and can be further customised by adjusting oil viscosity using the included tuning tools, allowing you to optimise performance for your specific riding style and track conditions.
  • Is assembly required or is it truly ready-to-run? — The Promoto-SM is fully assembled and ready to run (RTR). You only need to install four AA batteries in the DX3PM transmitter, add a charged 2S LiPo battery to the bike (sold separately), and you're ready to race. The included Quick Start Guide makes initial setup simple and straightforward, so you can be driving within minutes of unboxing.
