Technical Performance
The Blade Nano S3 RTF helicopter represents a significant leap forward in micro collective pitch helicopter engineering. Weighing just 28 grams without battery and 32 grams with the recommended 150mAh flight battery, the Nano S3 achieves an optimal balance between weight and strength that is essential for 3D flying. The main rotor diameter of 7.71 inches (196mm) with 3.3-inch (84mm) blades creates the right aerodynamic platform for precision control, whilst the 1.57-inch (40mm) tail rotor diameter ensures positive tail holding and responsive directional control. The brushed main motor and coreless tail motor work together to deliver the power needed for flips, rolls and sustained inverted flight, all whilst maintaining excellent efficiency from the included 45C LiPo battery. The flight time of 4-5 minutes per charge allows for multiple flights in a practice session, essential for skill development. The vertically mounted flight controller with its re-tuned gyro calibration and damping characteristics ensures that vibration reaching the sensors is minimised, translating to crisper control inputs and more predictable helicopter behaviour. Construction materials include plastic canopy and body components paired with plastic main blades and tail blades, chosen for their combination of light weight and impact resilience. The carbon-fibre main shaft and tail boom provide the structural strength needed to withstand the forces generated during aggressive 3D manoeuvres. At just under 250 grams total weight, the Nano S3 is classified as sub-250g, making it accessible to fly in many locations where larger RC helicopters would be restricted. The helicopter measures 200mm in length and 79mm in height, making it truly pocket-sized for transport and storage.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Blade Nano S3 RTF suitable for beginners? — The Nano S3 is classified as Skill Level 2, which means it's designed for pilots with some RC flying experience rather than complete beginners. However, the improved SAFE mode with angle demand and panic recovery features make it more forgiving than previous collective pitch helicopters, and the AS3X stabilisation system helps correct for mistakes. If you're new to RC helicopters, you should have flown a fixed-pitch or simpler RC helicopter first, or be prepared for a learning curve.
- What is the flight time on a single battery charge? — The Nano S3 delivers approximately 4-5 minutes of flight time per charge with the included 45C LiPo battery. This flight duration is typical for micro collective pitch helicopters and allows for multiple short flights in a practice session to develop your skills progressively.
- What battery does the Blade Nano S3 need? — The helicopter uses a 1S (single-cell) 3.7V LiPo battery. The recommended capacity is 150mAh at 45C discharge rate. The included battery is 45C rated, which provides the high power output necessary for 3D aerobatic flying. Additional batteries can be purchased separately for extended flying sessions.
- What transmitter is included and what frequency does it use? — The Nano S3 RTF comes with the Spektrum MLP6 6-channel 2.4GHz DSMX transmitter, which is factory paired with the installed DSMX receiver. The 2.4GHz frequency is digital, secure, and interference-resistant, offering reliable control at flying distances suitable for indoor and small outdoor spaces.
- How is the Nano S3 different from the Nano S2? — The Nano S3 builds on the Nano S2's proven collective pitch design with several key improvements: built-in voltage telemetry for real-time battery monitoring, a completely re-tuned flight controller for improved AS3X stability, an improved SAFE mode with angle demand control, SAFE Z altitude hold using the onboard accelerometer, and a vertically mounted flight controller that reduces vibration reaching the gyro for crisper control. Most Nano S2 replacement parts are compatible with the S3, making spare parts readily available.
- Can I use this helicopter outdoors? — The Nano S3 is designed primarily for indoor 3D practice and precision flying. Whilst it can be flown outdoors in calm conditions, its lightweight design makes it vulnerable to even light wind. Indoor flying in gymnasiums or large rooms is the ideal environment where you'll get the best performance and longest flights.
