Overview
The HBZ MLP6DSM 6CH SAFE Transmitter Mode 2 represents an excellent entry point into the world of RC model flying, offering intuitive control and reliable performance for pilots of all skill levels. Whether you're looking for your first RC transmitter or upgrading from a basic system, this 6-channel radio delivers the versatility and ease of use that makes RC flying accessible and enjoyable. The Mode 2 configuration positions the throttle and rudder controls on the right stick, making it the preferred layout for many UK RC enthusiasts and international pilots alike.
This HobbyZone transmitter is engineered with SAFE technology, which stands for Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope, providing intelligent flight assistance that helps prevent crashes and makes learning to fly significantly easier. For anyone purchasing an RC aircraft in the UK or looking to expand their flying experience, this radio offers the perfect balance of affordability, functionality, and safety-focused technology that builds confidence from your very first flight.
With 6 channels of control, you'll have the capability to operate multiple aircraft systems simultaneously, giving you precise command over aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle, and two additional auxiliary channels for features like landing gear, flaps, or other extended aircraft functions. This versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of aircraft types and configurations available in the RC model shop market.
Key Features
- 6-Channel Radio Control System — Six individual channels provide complete control authority over standard aircraft functions, with two auxiliary channels available for advanced aircraft systems, allowing you to operate complex aircraft with extended functionality beyond basic flight control.
- SAFE Technology Integration — The Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope system provides intelligent flight stability assistance that actively prevents dangerous manoeuvres and helps maintain safe flight attitudes, making this transmitter ideal for pilots learning to fly or transitioning to new aircraft types.
- Mode 2 Configuration — This throttle-on-right-stick layout is the international standard for RC aircraft control and matches the preferences of most UK pilots and professional operators, ensuring intuitive and natural stick responses once you develop muscle memory.
- Bind-and-Fly Compatible — The transmitter uses DSM2/DSMX protocols that pair seamlessly with compatible HobbyZone and Spektrum aircraft receivers, making setup straightforward and allowing you to get airborne quickly without complex programming or configuration.
- Compact and Portable Design — The transmitter's efficient form factor makes it easy to transport to flying sites, pack alongside your aircraft, and operate comfortably during extended flying sessions without hand fatigue or ergonomic issues.
Technical Performance
The MLP6DSM 6CH SAFE Transmitter operates on the proven DSM2/DSMX digital radio protocol, which has established itself as a reliable and industry-standard solution for RC aircraft control across Europe and beyond. The 6-channel capability provides sufficient control bandwidth for most general aviation aircraft, park flyers, and trainer-level models, with headroom for auxiliary functions on channels 5 and 6. The integration of SAFE technology means the transmitter works in tandem with compatible aircraft flight controllers to provide real-time stabilisation, which is particularly valuable when flying in gusty conditions or when practising advanced manoeuvres. The Mode 2 stick arrangement places throttle control on the right-hand stick, aligning with international conventions and making transitions between different aircraft and simulators more natural for experienced pilots. Build quality reflects HobbyZone's commitment to producing reliable, user-friendly radio systems that withstand the demands of regular flying operations, whether you're flying at your local club, in parks, or at dedicated RC airfields across the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the HBZ MLP6DSM 6CH SAFE Transmitter suitable for RC aircraft beginners? — Yes, this transmitter is specifically designed for pilots learning to fly RC aircraft. The SAFE technology actively assists in maintaining stable flight and preventing dangerous attitudes, whilst the intuitive 6-channel layout ensures you have precise control over all essential aircraft functions. Many UK RC clubs recommend this system for new pilots because it combines affordability with practical safety features.
- What aircraft can I fly with this transmitter? — This transmitter is compatible with any RC aircraft featuring a DSM2 or DSMX receiver equipped with SAFE flight controller technology. This includes most HobbyZone aircraft, many Spektrum bind-and-fly models, and compatible aircraft from other manufacturers. Always verify receiver compatibility before purchasing an aircraft.
- How do I bind this transmitter to an aircraft? — The DSM2/DSMX binding process is straightforward and typically involves placing the aircraft receiver in bind mode, then initiating the bind sequence on the transmitter. Detailed binding instructions are provided in the user manual, and our experienced team at RC Model Shop can walk you through the process if needed.
- What does SAFE technology actually do? — SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) uses onboard aircraft sensors to monitor flight attitude and automatically prevents the aircraft from entering dangerous flight conditions like inverted spins or excessive bank angles. This stabilisation system works seamlessly in the background, providing safety without removing pilot control, making it invaluable for learning to fly or recovering from pilot error.
- Is this transmitter compatible with simulators? — Many USB simulator cables are available separately for DSM2/DSMX transmitters, allowing you to practise flying on computer-based flight simulators. This is an excellent way to build muscle memory and practice manoeuvres before taking your aircraft to the flying field.
- What is the range of this transmitter? — DSM2/DSMX systems provide reliable control range for typical RC aircraft flying, with usable range extending several hundred metres in open-air conditions. For recreational park flying and club field operations, the range is more than adequate for safe and enjoyable flights.
