Key Features
- Brushless Motor Technology — The brushless design eliminates wear on carbon brushes, resulting in significantly longer motor lifespan, reduced maintenance requirements, and more consistent power delivery throughout the flight session compared to traditional brushed motors. Brushless motors are the standard choice for serious RC aircraft builders across the UK hobby.
- Outrunner Configuration — The outrunner design means the motor's bell (outer casing) rotates around a stationary centre shaft, providing direct drive characteristics that are ideal for propeller-driven aircraft. This configuration offers efficient power transfer and excellent low-to-mid-range torque, making it suitable for a wide variety of aircraft types from trainers to aerobatic models.
- 910Kv Rating — The 910 revolutions per volt specification positions this motor in the mid-range Kv sweet spot for general-purpose RC aircraft applications. This moderate Kv rating balances high RPM capability with reasonable current draw, allowing you to use appropriately sized batteries and ESCs without overstressing your power system components.
- 14-Pole Motor Design — The 14-pole configuration delivers smooth, consistent power with minimal cogging and vibration. This pole count is optimised for reliable, predictable performance across varying power levels, making the motor forgiving for pilots of different skill levels and responsive to control inputs.
- Precision Bearing Support — Rather than relying on bushings, this motor employs proper bearings for the rotating shaft. Bearings provide superior longevity, smoother operation, and reduced rotational resistance compared to bushing designs, directly translating to improved flight performance and extended motor life.
- 4mm Bullet Connector — The standard 4mm bullet-style connectors ensure reliable electrical connections to your ESC (Electronic Speed Controller). This industry-standard connector type is compatible with most quality brushless ESCs and allows for quick motor swaps when needed.
- 43mm Motor Diameter with 46mm Case Designation — The 4346 designation indicates a motor with substantial displacement and power-handling capacity. The larger physical size accommodates more windings and provides better heat dissipation during extended flight sessions, contributing to thermal stability and consistent performance.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum SPM Brushless Outrunner Motor exemplifies modern RC aircraft motor engineering with its robust 4346-910Kv 14-pole brushless outrunner configuration. With an outer diameter of 46 inches (1168mm) in the manufacturer's notation and a motor case length of 43 inches (1092mm), this is a substantial motor designed for serious RC applications requiring reliable power delivery. The 910Kv rating combined with the 14-pole design creates an optimal power curve for general-purpose aircraft, where you need smooth acceleration, predictable throttle response, and efficient energy conversion from battery to propeller. The brushless technology eliminates the maintenance headaches associated with brush wear, whilst the bearing support system ensures smooth operation with minimal mechanical friction. The motor's outrunner design means the rotating bell directly drives your propeller, eliminating gearbox losses and providing direct mechanical efficiency. This makes the motor particularly well-suited for folding-prop designs and aircraft where simplicity and reliability are paramount. The precision engineering throughout, combined with the generous bearing surfaces, allows this motor to handle sustained high-power output whilst maintaining thermal stability. When paired with an appropriate ESC and LiPo battery system, this motor will deliver impressive thrust and flight performance across a broad range of aircraft designs, from lightweight park flyers scaled up through to more substantial models.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What Kv rating should I choose for my RC aircraft motor? — The 910Kv rating on this motor positions it as a mid-range option suitable for general-purpose RC aircraft. Lower Kv ratings (like 500-600Kv) deliver higher torque and are better for larger, heavier aircraft or geared applications. Higher Kv ratings (1000Kv+) are designed for smaller, lighter aircraft or direct-drive propellers requiring higher RPM. The 910Kv sweet spot works well for sport flying, leisurely cruising, and moderate acrobatic aircraft across most size ranges.
- What does the 14-pole configuration mean for my flying experience? — Pole count affects motor smoothness and power delivery characteristics. The 14-pole design in this motor delivers smooth, consistent power with minimal vibration and cogging. This smoothness translates to more predictable throttle response, better control feel, and quieter operation compared to lower pole-count motors, making it an excellent choice for pilots seeking refined flight characteristics.
- Is this motor suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst brushless motors represent an upgrade from brushed alternatives, they are now the standard in RC aircraft and are entirely suitable for beginners. The Spektrum SPM motor's smooth 14-pole design actually makes it forgiving and predictable, helping newer pilots develop good flying habits. You will need a compatible brushless ESC and LiPo battery system, both of which are readily available through RC Model Shop.
- What ESC and battery do I need for this motor? — The source specifications confirm this motor uses 4mm bullet connectors, which are the industry standard. You will need a brushless ESC rated for appropriate continuous current (typically 40-80A depending on your battery voltage and aircraft weight) and a LiPo battery with voltage matched to your ESC and aircraft design. We recommend consulting your aircraft plans or speaking with our knowledgeable team at RC Model Shop to ensure compatibility.
- Why are bearings better than bushings? — Bearings provide superior mechanical performance compared to bushings through lower friction, improved longevity, and more consistent performance across extended flight sessions. Bearing-equipped motors like this Spektrum unit maintain their smooth operation over thousands of flights, whereas bushing motors gradually wear and develop increased drag. For serious RC fliers, the bearing advantage is worth the premium.
- What makes this different from other 900Kv outrunner motors? — The 14-pole configuration and precision bearing support distinguish this Spektrum motor from simpler alternatives. The 14-pole design delivers noticeably smoother operation and more refined throttle response than 12-pole designs, whilst the bearing support system ensures long service life. Spektrum's reputation for quality and the 4.5-star customer rating reflect the reliability pilots experience with this motor.
