Overview
The E-flite Extra 330 SC 3D 1.3m PNP is an exceptional aerobatic RC aeroplane that brings competition-grade performance to intermediate and experienced RC pilots. This is an updated and upgraded version of the immensely popular Extra 300 3D, featuring a stronger motor mount, larger hatch with plastic edges, and a more powerful 85-amp ESC that makes it one of the finest 3D capable aircraft available for RC enthusiasts in the UK. Whether you're looking for a serious brushless RC aeroplane for sport flying, precision manoeuvres, or unlimited 3D capability, the Extra 330 SC delivers exceptional performance and durability that will satisfy even the most demanding pilots.
This aircraft is a faithful replica of the full-scale Extra 330SC flown by Jim Bourke, the creator of RCGroups.com and owner of Knife Edge Software, who uses his Extra in airshows and international aerobatic competitions. The E-flite Extra 330 SC 3D 1.3m carries his iconic and distinctive trim scheme, making it instantly recognisable on the flight line. For three decades, full-scale Extra aircraft have dominated aerobatic competition, winning first place finishes at world championships and establishing themselves as the pinnacle of aerobatic design. Now, with this PNP (Plug-and-Play) variant, you can experience that legendary performance in RC form without the extensive assembly or pre-assembly work required by kit versions.
The PNP format means the Extra 330 SC comes nearly ready to fly, with the motor, ESC, and all four servos already factory-installed and configured. The lightweight composite-reinforced EPO airframe is durable enough to handle aggressive 3D flying whilst remaining light enough for crisp, responsive control. With two-piece plug-in wings featuring a carbon fibre tube, transport and assembly take less than an hour. This is the ideal choice for RC pilots seeking a professional-grade aerobatic aeroplane that requires minimal preparation before your first flight.

Technical Performance
The E-flite Extra 330 SC 3D 1.3m combines cutting-edge brushless RC technology with aerodynamic design proven through decades of full-scale competition use. The airframe spans 1308mm (51.5 inches) and measures 1260mm (49.6 inches) in length, positioning it as a substantial yet manageable platform for 3D aerobatics. The aircraft weighs approximately 1696 grammes without battery, climbing to approximately 2131 grammes with a recommended battery installed, giving it an excellent power-to-weight ratio essential for sustained inverted flight and aggressive manoeuvres. The Spektrum brushless outrunner motor delivers the thrust needed for unlimited 3D capability, whilst the 85-amp Spektrum Avian Smart Lite ESC manages power delivery with precision. Lightweight yet durable composite-reinforced EPO construction creates an airframe that can absorb hard landings and aggressive flying whilst maintaining structural integrity. The two-piece wing design with carbon fibre tube provides both transport convenience and flight rigidity. The four digital metal-geared servos ensure crisp, responsive control inputs necessary for precision aerobatic flying. Compatibility with popular 3S 11.1V and 4S 14.8V LiPo batteries (2200-3200mAh capacity) in IC3 or EC3 connector format means you can integrate this aircraft seamlessly into an existing battery ecosystem. The PNP format eliminates weeks of assembly, allowing you to progress from unboxing to first flight in under an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the E-flite Extra 330 SC 3D suitable for intermediate RC pilots? — Yes, the Extra 330 SC is classified as a Skill Level 4 aircraft, making it suitable for intermediate to experienced RC pilots who have basic flying experience. This is not a beginner's aeroplane; it requires proficiency with RC control to safely operate. If you're new to RC flying, start with a trainer-level aircraft before progressing to this model.
- What is the difference between the PNP and RTR versions? — The PNP (Plug-and-Play) version includes the motor, ESC, and servos pre-installed but requires you to add your own transmitter, receiver, and batteries. The BNF Basic version includes an AR631 receiver with telemetry, AS3X, and SAFE Select technologies, making it easier to fly. You should choose PNP if you already own a compatible Spektrum transmitter and receiver system.
- What batteries does this aeroplane need? — The Extra 330 SC performs excellently with both 3S 11.1V and 4S 14.8V LiPo batteries in the 2200-3200mAh capacity range. 3S batteries offer good performance with more conservative flight characteristics, whilst 4S batteries deliver higher power and more aggressive flying capability. Both configurations deliver excellent flight times without requiring any motor or ESC modifications.
- How long does assembly take with the PNP version? — Approximately one hour from unboxing to ready-to-fly status. The motor, ESC, and all four servos arrive factory-installed and configured. You'll need to attach the wings, connect the servo linkages to control surfaces, and mount your receiver, but no soldering or complex setup is required.
- What transmitter and receiver do I need? — The Extra 330 SC requires a full-range 4+ channel transmitter and receiver system. Spektrum radio systems are recommended and offer the best compatibility, especially if you want to utilise the telemetry features of the Avian Smart Lite ESC. You can also use other brands of compatible RC transmitters and receivers.
- Can this aeroplane perform 3D manoeuvres? — Absolutely. The oversized control surfaces, lightweight construction, and powerful brushless motor make unlimited 3D capability possible. This includes inverted flight, tumbles, rolls, spins, hovering, and other advanced aerobatic manoeuvres when piloted by an experienced RC pilot.
- What is the weight of this aeroplane? — The Extra 330 SC weighs approximately 1696 grammes without a battery installed. With a recommended 3S or 4S battery installed, the total weight rises to approximately 2131 grammes, still providing an excellent power-to-weight ratio for aggressive aerobatics.
- What materials are used in construction? — The airframe is constructed from lightweight yet durable composite-reinforced EPO foam. The wing features a carbon fibre main spar for added strength and stiffness. The landing gear is constructed from durable aluminium. These materials combine to create an airframe that can withstand the demands of 3D flying whilst remaining light enough for excellent performance.
- Is this a realistic scale model? — This is a replica of Jim Bourke's full-scale Extra 330SC aerobatic aircraft, finished in his iconic trim scheme with bold graphics. It captures the essential proportions and appearance of the full-scale aircraft, though it's optimised for RC flight characteristics rather than perfect scale accuracy.
- How does the Smart Lite ESC help during flight? — The Spektrum Avian 85-Amp Smart Lite ESC provides real-time telemetry data including battery voltage, current draw, RPM, and other performance metrics. This information is transmitted to compatible Spektrum receivers and transmitters, allowing you to monitor battery health and motor performance throughout your flight.
