Overview

The FTX Outback Fury 2.0 4x4 RTR Trail Crawler in black represents a significant evolution in affordable, ready-to-run RC crawler technology for the UK market. This is a fully assembled, ready-to-run RC car that arrives at your door prepared for immediate action on the trails, making it an ideal choice for both newcomers to RC trail crawling and experienced enthusiasts looking for reliable performance without breaking the bank. The original Fury earned its reputation as an FTX favourite amongst crawler and trail fans for delivering genuine performance and exceptional value in a well-balanced package that appeals to those discovering the world of RC trail driving for the first time.

Fast forward to the Fury 2.0, and FTX has created a comprehensively updated package that elevates the entire crawling experience to new levels. This brushed electric 4WD RC crawler combines intelligent engineering improvements with robust construction to deliver a vehicle that handles rocky terrain, steep climbs and challenging obstacles with confidence. Whether you're tackling woodland trails, rocky terrain or scale rock crawling scenarios, the Fury 2.0 offers the right balance of capability, durability and value that makes it one of the best ready-to-run RC crawlers available in the UK today.

What sets this RTR RC truck apart is its thoughtful approach to weight distribution, advanced suspension geometry and premium component selection. The forward-mounted servo and electronics, combined with a low centre of gravity transmission design, work together to improve weight bias during climbing—a critical advantage when you're navigating steep inclines and vertical obstacles. This is a proper trail crawler, not a simplified toy, and it performs like one.

Key Features

  • Revised Metal Gearbox with Reverse Drive Design — The new gearbox features metal gears and an innovative reverse drive design that reduces torque twist by having driveshafts drive in opposite directions, meaning the vehicle climbs more smoothly without the lateral forces that cause instability on uneven terrain.
  • Improved Geometry and Steering — Enhanced camber and steering angle settings deliver noticeably better turning radius and overall stability, whilst CVA universal front driveshafts allow the suspension to work more effectively over rocks and obstacles without binding or strain.
  • 15kg Etronix Metal Geared Servo — A substantial metal geared servo with full waterproof protection handles heavy steering loads without hesitation, meaning you maintain precise control even when torque demands are high during difficult climbs.
  • Metal Servo Horn and Pan-Hard Bar — Steel construction replaces plastic alternatives, significantly increasing durability and the ability to withstand the stresses of serious trail work without damage or misalignment.
  • Front and Rear Metal Drive Gears — Heavy-duty metal construction with removeable axle covers allows you to access the drivetrain for maintenance and upgrades whilst maintaining superior strength compared to plastic gear alternatives.
  • 6mm Steel Multi-Link Suspension with Increased Bend Angle — Thicker steel suspension links with increased angle capability provide superior clearance over rocks and boulders, whilst the multi-link design distributes forces more evenly across the chassis.
  • Aluminium Axle Link Mounting Points — New aluminium mounting locations for the suspension links add structural strength and reduce flex during aggressive crawling, improving predictability and durability.

Technical Performance

The FTX Outback Fury 2.0 represents a thoughtfully engineered trail crawler designed for genuine off-road performance. Powered by a 540 brushed 20-turn motor, the Fury 2.0 delivers adequate torque for realistic climbing speeds rather than focusing on outright acceleration—exactly what trail crawling demands. The motor pairs with a Hobbywing HW1040 40-amp waterproof ESC that provides smooth, controllable power delivery and includes full water resistance for creek crossings and wet terrain. The 7.2V 2000mAh NiMH battery provides several hours of operation per charge and is recharged via the included USB 500mA charger, making it straightforward for UK-based users to maintain. With a 41:1 gear ratio, the transmission delivers maximum torque multiplication for impressive pulling force and climbing ability. The construction quality is notably high for the price point: metal gears throughout the drivetrain, steel suspension links with increased bend angles, aluminium mounting points, and reinforced bearings throughout ensure this vehicle handles sustained trail abuse without premature wear. The reverse drive gearbox design is particularly clever—by driving the driveshafts in opposite directions, it naturally counteracts torque twist that would otherwise cause the vehicle to lean sideways during hard climbing. Oil-filled shock absorbers maintain consistent damping across temperature and terrain variations, whilst the locked front and rear axles ensure maximum traction in low-grip scenarios. Ground clearance of 80mm allows traversal over substantial rocks and roots, and the adjustable wheelbase between 313-320mm lets you tune the vehicle's balance characteristics for different terrain types. All this is mounted on a C-type steel rail chassis that weighs just 2.64kg, distributing that mass low and forward to maximise climbing performance. This is proper trail crawler engineering delivered at a realistic price point.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the FTX Outback Fury 2.0 suitable for beginners to RC trail crawling? — Yes, this RTR trail crawler is specifically designed as an entry point to RC crawling. It arrives fully assembled and factory-tuned, requiring only four AA batteries for the transmitter before you can take it to the trails. The straightforward controls, predictable handling and durable construction make it forgiving for learning basic crawling techniques, whilst the quality components mean you're not fighting poor engineering as you develop your skills.
  • What battery does the FTX Outback Fury 2.0 require? — The vehicle comes with a 7.2V 2000mAh NiMH battery pack that plugs directly into the pre-installed Hobbywing ESC. The included USB 500mA charger recharges this battery, and a typical charge cycle takes several hours. The radio transmitter requires 4 x AA batteries, which are not included in the box.
  • How does the reverse drive gearbox design improve climbing? — Traditional crawlers suffer from torque twist—a lateral twisting force that makes the vehicle lean sideways when climbing hard. The Fury 2.0's innovative reverse drive design has the front and rear driveshafts rotating in opposite directions, which naturally cancels out this twisting force. The result is a vehicle that climbs more smoothly and predictably, especially valuable on steep inclines and narrow terrain features.
  • What makes the Fury 2.0 an upgrade over the original Fury? — The Fury 2.0 benefits from a completely revised gearbox with metal gears and reverse drive design, improved suspension geometry with more camber and steering angle, upgraded servo (15kg metal geared instead of lighter alternatives), enhanced driveshaft design with CVA universals, steel multi-link suspension with increased bend angles, aluminium mounting points for improved strength, oil-filled shocks, and improved scale styling with LED headlights and realistic bumpers. These aren't minor tweaks—they represent a systematic upgrade to every major system.
  • Is the FTX Outback Fury 2.0 waterproof? — The ESC and servo both carry waterproof ratings suitable for creek crossings and wet terrain. However, the motor and radio system are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof, so whilst the vehicle handles wet conditions and shallow water crossings, it shouldn't be submerged for extended periods. The receiver box provides additional protection for the radio electronics.
  • What is the recommended skill level for this RC crawler? — FTX recommends Skill Level 2, meaning basic familiarity with RC vehicles is helpful but not essential. The vehicle is stable and predictable enough for someone completely new to RC to learn on, but it rewards developing technique and setup knowledge as you progress.
  • How long does the battery last per charge? — The 2000mAh 7.2V NiMH battery typically provides several hours of trail time depending on driving intensity and terrain. More aggressive climbing and jumping depletes the battery faster than steady trail driving. It's worth purchasing a second battery pack to extend your session time without waiting for recharges.
  • What is the ground clearance and how does it compare to other crawlers? — The Fury 2.0 offers 80mm of ground clearance, which is substantial for a 1/10-scale vehicle and allows it to traverse over significant rocks, roots and obstacles without grounding the chassis. This clearance is competitive with other trail-focused crawlers in this price range.
  • Can I upgrade components on the Fury 2.0? — Yes, FTX publishes a comprehensive range of optional hop-up parts and genuine spare components specifically designed for the Fury 2.0. Removeable axle covers provide easy access to the drivetrain, and the modular design means you can upgrade suspension, servo, motor and other components as your needs evolve.
  • What tyres come fitted and are they suitable for all terrain types? — The vehicle comes with Fastrax Gator tyres, which are purpose-designed trail compound tyres offering genuine grip across loose rock, dirt, grass and mixed terrain. They're not racing slicks, but rather genuine crawler-specific tyres that prioritise traction over speed.
