The ARRMA 22T 0.8Mod Safe-D5 Pinion Gear Z-ARA311005 is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and precision in their drivetrain. This tough steel pinion gear represents the pinnacle of ARRMA engineering, delivering the durability and smooth operation required for serious RC racing and bashing. Whether you're upgrading your RC car UK setup or simply maintaining your current vehicle with quality OEM parts, this 22-tooth pinion gear is the perfect addition to your RC tool box.
Engineered for extreme RC conditions, this component is purpose-built to withstand the demands of competitive racing, weekend bashing, and everything in between. The Safe-D5 design ensures that your RC car maintains consistent drive and braking performance, even in the most challenging scenarios. ARRMA's commitment to precision manufacturing means you get a component that integrates seamlessly with your existing drivetrain, providing the performance you expect from a recognised leader in the brushless RC car market.
This is not a complete ready to run RC car, but rather a critical drivetrain component that serious RC enthusiasts rely on for maintenance, repairs, and performance tuning. If you're running an ARRMA RC vehicle and need a replacement or upgrade pinion gear, or if you're building a custom RC setup, this component delivers the engineering excellence that ARRMA is known for throughout the UK RC community.
Key Features
- Strong and Durable Steel Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from high-quality steel that has been proven to withstand the extreme forces generated during acceleration, cornering and braking in competitive RC racing and aggressive bashing scenarios. Steel construction ensures long-lasting performance even when pushing your RC car to its limits.
- Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The wide tooth profile has been engineered with precision manufacturing techniques to ensure smooth, consistent mesh with your spur gear, reducing noise, wear and vibration during operation. This results in more efficient power transfer and a longer service life for both the pinion and spur gears in your drivetrain.
- Safe-D5 Design with D-Shaped Hole — The distinctive D-shaped hole matches the profile of your motor shaft, which means drive and brakes are not lost if the set-screw backs out during intense driving sessions. This safety-focused design prevents the frustration and potential damage that occurs when a pinion gear slips on the motor shaft, making it an essential upgrade for any serious RC car owner.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion gear is specifically designed to suit 5mm motor shaft diameters, making it compatible with a wide range of ARRMA RC vehicles and standard brushless motor installations found throughout the UK RC community.
- Precision Manufactured Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The set-screw hole is manufactured with precision tolerances to ensure a secure, reliable fit that resists loosening even under the most demanding driving conditions. This attention to detail means your pinion gear stays precisely positioned on your motor shaft.
- E-Clip Retention System — An E-clip is supplied for motor shaft pinion retention, providing an additional layer of security that works in conjunction with the set-screw to keep your pinion gear locked in place during high-speed acceleration and cornering.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 22T 0.8Mod Safe-D5 Pinion Gear represents a significant investment in drivetrain reliability and performance. With 22 teeth and a 0.8 module specification, this gear provides the optimal balance of acceleration and top speed for most ARRMA RC vehicles running brushless motor systems. The module specification (0.8 Mod) defines the tooth size and pitch, ensuring precise meshing with OEM and aftermarket spur gears. The steel construction provides exceptional durability under the repeated stress cycles that occur during hard acceleration, rapid deceleration and intense cornering. The precision-manufactured wide tooth profile minimises backlash and ensures smooth power delivery throughout the entire operating range, whether you're running a high-speed track car or an aggressive basher. The Safe-D5 bore design is a critical engineering feature that prevents loss of drive and brakes if mechanical vibration causes the set-screw to loosen — a common problem with standard round-hole pinions that has plagued RC enthusiasts for years. For UK RC car owners seeking to maximise the lifespan of their drivetrain whilst maintaining peak performance, this component delivers the engineering quality and reliability that ARRMA is renowned for.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does Safe-D5 mean on this pinion gear? — Safe-D5 refers to the D-shaped bore design with a 5mm shaft diameter. The D-shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile, which prevents the pinion gear from slipping if the set-screw vibrates loose during driving. This is a critical safety feature that protects your drivetrain from unexpected loss of drive and braking power.
- Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component rather than a complete RC vehicle, so it's best suited to RC enthusiasts with some experience in drivetrain maintenance and assembly. However, if you already own an ARRMA RC car and need to replace or upgrade your pinion gear, this is an excellent choice. Beginners should start with a complete ready to run RC car rather than individual drivetrain components.
- What motor shaft size does this gear fit? — This pinion gear is designed for 5mm motor shaft diameters, which is the standard size on most ARRMA brushless RC vehicles and many aftermarket brushless motors commonly used in the UK RC car scene.
- How many teeth does this pinion gear have? — This is a 22-tooth pinion gear, which provides a balanced gear ratio suitable for most ARRMA RC vehicles. The tooth count affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed, with more teeth increasing top speed but reducing acceleration, and fewer teeth providing the opposite effect.
- What is the 0.8 module specification? — Module 0.8 defines the tooth size and pitch of the gear. This specification must match your spur gear to ensure proper meshing, smooth operation and longevity of both gears. The 0.8 module is standard for most ARRMA RC vehicles and many other brands used throughout the UK.
- What happens if my set-screw backs out? — With a standard round-hole pinion, the gear would slip on the motor shaft, causing immediate loss of drive and braking. With this Safe-D5 design, the D-shaped hole prevents slipping because it's shaped to match your motor shaft profile, keeping your RC car under control even if the screw loosens slightly.
