Overview

The ARRMA 16T 0.8Mod Safe-D5 Pinion Gear is an essential replacement component for RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their brushless RC vehicles. Whether you're running an ARRMA 1/10 scale monster truck, short course truck, or 1/8 scale buggy, this precision-engineered pinion gear delivers the durability and smooth operation you need for consistent performance in demanding RC conditions. This is the perfect part to carry in your RC tool box, especially if you're a serious basher or competition driver who needs dependable spares on hand.

Designed specifically for use with 5mm motor shafts, this steel pinion gear features ARRMA's signature Safe-D design, which incorporates a D-shaped bore that matches your motor shaft profile perfectly. This clever engineering ensures that even if your set-screw backs out during intense driving sessions, your drive and brakes won't be lost—a critical safety feature that separates quality RC components from budget alternatives. For UK RC car enthusiasts and ready to run RC vehicle owners, having genuine ARRMA replacement gears means you're investing in parts that are engineered to work perfectly with your vehicle and will keep your RC experience enjoyable for years to come.

This tough steel construction makes the 16T pinion gear ideal for a wide range of ARRMA brushless RC trucks and buggies, from the popular BIG ROCK and QUAKE monster trucks to the high-performance SENTON short course trucks and TYPHON buggies. If you've experienced gear wear, damage, or simply want to keep a spare on hand, this pinion gear is the genuine OEM part you need.

Key Features

  • Safe-D5 Bore Design — The D-shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile perfectly, ensuring that if the set-screw backs out, your drive and brakes remain engaged and you don't lose control of your RC vehicle mid-run.
  • Strong Steel Construction — Made from tough, durable steel that withstands the extreme stresses of high-performance RC driving, whether you're bashing on rough terrain or competing at pace.
  • Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The precisely engineered teeth are wider than standard profiles, delivering smooth operation and reduced backlash for better power transfer and more responsive handling.
  • 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Specifically designed for motors with 5mm shaft diameter, ensuring a perfect fit without the need for adapters or modifications.
  • Precision Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The expertly manufactured hole accepts the included M4 x 4mm set-screw, providing secure attachment with repeatability and reliability.
  • E-Clip Retention System — Includes a 3.2mm E-clip to provide secondary retention on your motor shaft, adding an extra layer of security alongside the set-screw.

Technical Performance

This 16-tooth pinion gear operates at 0.8 Module pitch, a standard specification used across ARRMA's 1/10 scale brushless RC trucks and buggies as well as their 1/8 scale buggy platform. The 0.8 Module specification determines the gear's engagement characteristics with the main spur gear, ensuring optimal power delivery and efficiency when paired with compatible motors and transmissions. The gear ratio achieved with this 16-tooth pinion will vary depending on the spur gear teeth count in your specific vehicle, but the Safe-D5 bore ensures maximum compatibility across the ARRMA range. The steel construction provides superior durability compared to plastic gears, resisting tooth stripping and deformation even under the high torque loads produced by modern brushless motors and electronic speed controllers. The precision manufacturing ensures tight tolerances, which is essential for smooth meshing and longevity. Whether you're using this with a high-KV brushless motor for speed-focused driving or a lower-KV motor for torque-heavy off-road work, the robust steel teeth will handle the demands. The included M4 x 4mm set-screw and 3.2mm E-clip provide secure fastening that won't vibrate loose during extended running sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which ARRMA vehicles is this 16T pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear is compatible with multiple ARRMA brushless RC vehicles including the 1/10 BIG ROCK 223S DSC 4X4 RTR Brushless Monster Truck (available in Black, Blue and Green), the 1/10 QUAKE 223S DSC 2WD RTR Brushless Monster Truck (available in Red, Purple and Green), the 1/10 SENTON 223S BLX Brushless 4X4 Short Course Truck RTR with DSC (available in Red, Yellow and Blue/Purple), and the 1/8 TYPHON 223S BLX 4x4 Buggy RTR with DSC (available in Green, Red, Yellow and Blue).
  • What does the Safe-D5 bore design actually do? — The D-shaped bore is designed to match the shape of your 5mm motor shaft. This means that if your set-screw backs out during driving, the D-shaped engagement still keeps the gear engaged with the shaft, so you won't lose your drive or brakes. This is a genuine safety feature that prevents unexpected loss of control.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component rather than a beginner's product, so it's more suited to users who already have an ARRMA RC vehicle and need to replace a worn or damaged pinion gear. Beginners should focus on getting a ready to run RC truck or buggy first, then keep spares like this on hand as they develop their skills.
  • Why is steel better than plastic for pinion gears? — Steel offers superior durability and strength compared to plastic alternatives. It resists tooth stripping, which occurs when high torque from brushless motors exceeds the material strength, and it won't deform under sustained load. This makes steel pinions ideal for serious bashers and competition drivers using high-performance RC vehicles.
  • What is the difference between 0.8 Module gears and other pitches? — Module pitch determines how the teeth of the pinion engage with the spur gear. The 0.8 Module is the standard specification for ARRMA's brushless vehicle range, ensuring that replacement gears mesh perfectly with the original spur gears in your vehicle. Using the wrong module pitch will result in poor mesh, excessive backlash, or teeth that won't engage properly.
  • Do I need both the set-screw and the E-clip? — Yes, ARRMA recommends using both for maximum security. The M4 x 4mm set-screw provides primary attachment, while the 3.2mm E-clip serves as a secondary retention system. Together, they ensure the pinion gear stays firmly attached to your motor shaft even during rough driving.
