Overview

The SPM H2080 12g Metal Gear Heli Cyclic Servo P-SPMSH2080 is a precision servo designed specifically for helicopter cyclic control applications. This compact servo combines a robust metal gear transmission with a lightweight aluminium construction, making it an essential component for RC helicopter enthusiasts and competitive flyers in the UK. Whether you're piloting a micro scale RC helicopter or a larger collective pitch model, this servo delivers the reliability and responsiveness required for smooth, precise blade pitch control.

Manufactured by Spektrum, a recognised leader in spread spectrum technology and RC systems, the H2080 represents years of engineering expertise dedicated to helicopter flight dynamics. The 12g weight specification makes this servo ideal for helicopters where weight savings are critical to performance, allowing for better flight characteristics, longer flight times, and improved manoeuvrability. This is the servo of choice for RC helicopter pilots who demand precision engineering and dependable performance during both casual flying and competitive helicopter racing in the UK.

The metal gear construction ensures durability through repeated cyclic inputs and aggressive flight manoeuvres, whilst the optimised design specifically addresses the unique demands of helicopter cyclic control systems. Unlike standard servos designed for generic RC applications, the H2080 is engineered to handle the constant, rapid adjustments required to maintain cyclic blade pitch control during flight.

Key Features

  • Metal Gear Transmission — The heavy-duty metal gear construction provides superior durability and longevity compared to plastic alternatives, ensuring the servo can withstand thousands of cyclic control inputs without wear or degradation. Metal gears are essential for high-performance helicopter applications where precision and reliability cannot be compromised.
  • Lightweight 12g Design — The carefully engineered 12-gram weight specification means minimal impact on your helicopter's overall mass, preserving the critical weight-to-power ratio necessary for responsive handling, extended flight duration, and improved climb performance. Every gram matters in RC helicopter design, and this servo achieves excellent balance between strength and weight.
  • Cyclic Control Optimisation — This servo is specifically engineered for helicopter cyclic pitch control, delivering the precise, rapid response characteristics that collective pitch helicopters demand. The servo's mechanical design and response characteristics are optimised for the unique control inputs required in helicopter flight rather than being a generic multi-purpose servo.
  • Spektrum Quality Engineering — As a product from Spektrum, the recognised innovator in spread spectrum RC technology, this servo benefits from decades of experience in designing reliable, high-performance RC components. Spektrum's reputation is built on precision manufacturing and rigorous quality control standards that RC enthusiasts throughout the UK have come to trust.
  • Compact Form Factor — The efficient compact design makes installation straightforward in helicopter servo frames and mounting brackets without requiring extensive modification, allowing RC helicopter builders to focus on other aspects of their model rather than servo installation challenges.

Technical Performance

The SPM H2080 12g Metal Gear Heli Cyclic Servo represents Spektrum's commitment to precision engineering for specialist helicopter applications. The metal gear transmission is constructed from high-grade materials chosen specifically for their durability, wear resistance, and ability to maintain precise tolerances through repeated cyclic inputs. The servo's mechanical design prioritises the rapid, accurate response characteristics essential for collective pitch RC helicopter control, where even minute deviations in servo positioning can affect blade pitch angles and flight stability. The 12-gram weight specification has been achieved without compromising structural rigidity or durability, through careful materials selection and optimised internal geometry. This servo is engineered to operate reliably in the dynamic flight environment of RC helicopters, where it must respond instantly to transmitter inputs whilst maintaining rock-solid positioning throughout extended flight sessions. The build quality reflects Spektrum's reputation as a manufacturer of high-performance RC components trusted by competitive helicopter pilots and weekend enthusiasts alike throughout the UK RC community.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the SPM H2080 servo suitable for my RC helicopter? — The SPM H2080 is specifically designed for helicopter cyclic pitch control applications. It is compatible with Spektrum systems and helicopters that use standard servo mounting and control linkages. You should verify that your helicopter's servo frame and control system are compatible with standard servo specifications before purchasing. Consult your helicopter's manual or contact RC Model Shop if you are uncertain about compatibility.
  • What makes this servo different from standard RC servos? — Unlike general-purpose RC servos designed for car or truck applications, the SPM H2080 is engineered specifically for helicopter cyclic control. This means the mechanical response characteristics, speed, and torque delivery are optimised for the rapid, precise adjustments required to control helicopter blade pitch during flight. The metal gear construction is chosen specifically for the demanding cyclic control environment rather than other servo applications.
  • How much does the SPM H2080 weigh? — This servo weighs 12 grams, making it lightweight enough for RC helicopter applications where minimising total aircraft weight is critical to achieving good flight performance. The weight specification has been carefully engineered to provide the best balance between servo durability and helicopter performance.
  • Why choose metal gears over plastic? — Metal gear construction provides superior durability and longevity compared to plastic gears, particularly in the demanding cyclic control environment where servos receive constant rapid inputs throughout flight sessions. Metal gears maintain precision tolerances much longer than plastic alternatives, ensuring consistent performance throughout the servo's operational life. For serious RC helicopter enthusiasts in the UK who fly regularly, metal gears represent an investment in long-term reliability and consistent performance.
  • Is this a Spektrum genuine product? — Yes, the SPM H2080 is a genuine Spektrum product manufactured to the highest quality standards. When you purchase from RC Model Shop, you can be confident you are receiving an authentic Spektrum servo with full warranty protection and technical support.
