Key Features

  • Upgraded BEC with Switch Mode Technology — The ESC features a significantly improved BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) with continuous output current upgraded to 4A, with maximum output reaching 7A. The output voltage is switchable between 6V and 7.4V, allowing you to power demanding high-torque servos available on the market with genuine control and reliability. The switch mode design is far more efficient than older linear regulators, meaning less heat generation and more stable voltage delivery to your servo systems.
  • Boost and Turbo Timing Technology — Up to 32 degrees of adjustable electronic timing is available, with Boost and Turbo timing modes to fine-tune power delivery and extract maximum performance from your setup. This level of programmable timing control allows experienced drivers to optimise acceleration curves and mid-range punch to suit their driving style and track conditions, giving you a genuine competitive advantage in racing scenarios.
  • Sensored Brushless Motor with Smooth Linear Power — The included 3650SD G2 motor features a 2-pole rotor design that delivers smooth, linear power characteristics. The sensored design means smooth low-speed control and precise throttle response, making this combo excellent for technical driving disciplines like drift competitions or tight track layouts.
  • Intelligent Freewheeling Technology — This innovative system greatly improves performance by enabling higher driving efficiency and lowering the operating temperature of the ESC. The result is further improved stability and reliability of the entire power system, extending component lifespan and maintaining consistent performance throughout your driving sessions.
  • Multiple Programming Methods for Flexibility — The ESC supports four distinct programming approaches: onboard SET button tuning with LED feedback, LED Programming Box, LCD Programming Box Pro, and dedicated program port access. This abundance of programming options means whether you prefer quick trackside adjustments or detailed parameter fine-tuning at home, you have the tools you need. Multiple programming methods are supported, allowing you to choose your favourite approach for parameter adjustment with ease.
  • Comprehensive Multi-Level Protection Systems — Built using top-line hardware and proven software, the ESC combines multiple protective functions including overheating protection that automatically reduces power if temperatures rise dangerously, low voltage shutdown to prevent battery damage and sudden power loss mid-run, and capacitor thermal protection designed to prevent capacitor failure and explosion from overloading. These systems work together to provide a robust and reliable platform that keeps your RC car safe and performing optimally in all conditions.
  • Motor Rotation Adjustment for Chassis Compatibility — The motor rotation is freely adjustable between CW (clockwise) and CCW (counterclockwise), allowing you to adapt the system to different chassis layouts and configurations without requiring motor modifications or additional adapters.
  • Efficient Cooling System with Integrated Radiator Design — The ESC features an integrated radiator combined with a patented copper thermal conduction sink on the internal power board, facilitating rapid conduction of internal heat to the radiator. A fan operated via the BEC then actively dissipates this heat, creating an efficient heat dissipation system that ensures the ESC maintains peak performance even during extended running sessions or demanding competition use.
  • Super Large Built-In Capacitor — With a massive 1640µF built-in capacitor, external capacitor upgrades are not required for 10th scale models, simplifying installation and improving ease of use whilst maintaining electrical stability during high-current draw situations.
  • Exceptional Heat Dissipation in the Motor — The 3650SD G2 motor features excellent heat dissipation properties, maintaining optimal performance even during extended running sessions or in warm ambient conditions, ensuring consistent throttle response and preventing performance degradation from thermal stress.

The 10BL120 G2 ESC boasts a continuous current rating of 120 amps with an impressive peak rating of 760 amps, making it more than capable of handling the demands of high-powered 1/10 touring cars, buggies and drift cars. The ESC accepts 2-3S LiPo batteries (7.4V to 11.1V nominal), providing genuine flexibility in battery selection depending on your desired power levels and intended application. For 2S LiPo usage, the system supports motors of 4.5T and larger; for 3S LiPo operation, motors should be 10.5T or larger, making the included 13.5T motor perfectly suited to 3S operation. The 3650SD G2 motor itself features a robust 3.17mm shaft diameter (3.2mm bore compatibility), 36mm outer diameter, and 52.8mm length, with a fixed timing design that prioritises reliability and ease of use. The motor weighs 186g and draws approximately 2.4A at idle, providing you with clear data for power budget calculations. The entire ESC unit measures 43 × 36.8 × 32.3mm and weighs just 101.5g including connectors and wiring, making it compact enough for virtually any modern 1/10 scale chassis. Quality construction throughout includes 12AWG wiring for input and output, heavy-gauge connectors suitable for high-current applications, and a framed 25×25×10mm cooling fan operated by the BEC. The ESC operates within a voltage range of 5-8.4V, and whilst the system is not fully waterproof, it represents a genuine upgrade path for hobbyists seeking brushless performance and advanced control options without excessive cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing QuicRun 10BL120 G2 combo suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst the ESC offers advanced programming features that experienced racers will appreciate, the system is genuinely easy to use and setup straight from the box. The onboard SET button programming combined with LED feedback makes basic configuration straightforward, whilst the included sensored motor provides smooth, linear power delivery that is forgiving and predictable for drivers learning brushless control. The multiple protection systems mean you're unlikely to accidentally damage components through incorrect setup, making this an excellent confidence-building platform for transitioning to brushless power.
  • What battery does the Hobbywing QuicRun 10BL120 G2 need? — The ESC is designed for 2-3S LiPo batteries, meaning you can use either 2-cell (7.4V nominal) or 3-cell (11.1V nominal) packs. For 2S operation, use motors rated 4.5T or larger; for 3S operation, use motors rated 10.5T or larger. The included 13.5T motor is optimised for 3S operation, delivering the best combination of speed and torque at that voltage level. Always use quality LiPo batteries from reputable manufacturers and balance-charge them before use.
  • How does the sensored motor compare to sensorless? — The sensored 3650SD G2 motor provides several advantages over sensorless designs: smooth low-speed control with minimal cogging, precise throttle response at all speeds, and the ability to hold position without drifting when throttle is centred. These characteristics make sensored motors particularly excellent for drift cars requiring fine control and precision driving, and for competitive racing where consistency matters. The ESC also supports sensorless motors if you choose to upgrade later, providing flexibility for future experimentation.
  • What is the difference between the QuicRun 10BL120 G2 and the previous generation? — The G2 (second generation) represents a genuine evolution: the BEC has been upgraded from 3A continuous to 4A continuous (with 7A peak versus previous 5A peak), meaning you can reliably power more demanding servo systems. The output voltage is now switchable between 6V and 7.4V rather than fixed, providing greater flexibility. The overall platform has been refined for even easier use and setup, making it accessible to newcomers whilst retaining the advanced features competitive drivers demand. The intelligent freewheeling technology is a new addition to the G2 specifically, improving efficiency and reducing operating temperatures.
  • Can I use this combo with 4S or higher LiPo batteries? — No, the ESC is specifically rated for 2-3S operation only. Using 4S or higher voltage batteries will damage the ESC and void the warranty. If you're interested in higher-performance setups, Hobbywing offers alternative ESC models rated for 4S and above.
  • What is the top speed I can expect? — With the included 13.5T motor (2850kV) on 3S LiPo, you're looking at approximately 50-60 mph depending on gearing, chassis efficiency and driving conditions. The final speed will depend on your specific gear ratio selection and vehicle weight. Lighter vehicles with lower gear ratios will achieve higher speeds; heavier vehicles or those geared for acceleration will be slightly slower but more responsive.
  • Is this combo waterproof? — The ESC itself is not waterproof, though it features quality connectors and sealed circuitry. The system can operate in damp conditions but shouldn't be submerged. If water exposure is likely, consider purchasing a waterproof ESC enclosure or housing to protect the electronics.
  • What programming box should I buy for advanced tuning? — The ESC works with three different programming tools. The onboard SET button with LED feedback is free and sufficient for most users. For more detailed parameter access, the LED Programming Box (part number 30501003) is affordable and straightforward. For the most comprehensive tuning options with LCD display, the LCD Programming Box Pro (part number 30502002) is the premium choice, accepting input voltages between DC 5V and 12.6V and weighing just 85g for convenient track use.
  • What type of motor connector does it use? — The combo ships without pre-installed connectors on either the motor or ESC, allowing you to select your preferred connector type (XT90, XT60, Deans, EC3 or others) based on your specific vehicle and battery setup. This flexibility is actually beneficial, as it ensures compatibility with your existing battery and vehicle infrastructure.
