Technical Performance
The EZRUN MINI28 and 1626SD combo delivers impressive performance metrics that make it ideally suited for competitive 1/28 scale RC racing. The ESC's 30A continuous current rating with 80A peak capability provides ample power for the 3500KV motor whilst maintaining stable operation even under the most demanding racing conditions. The 1626SD motor weighs just 18g and measures 16mm in diameter by 26mm in length, fitting perfectly into the tight confines of 1/28 scale chassis without compromising performance. With a 3500KV rating and sensored design, this motor delivers a no-load current of just 0.6A, indicating exceptional efficiency that translates to cooler running temperatures and longer runtime from each battery charge. The 2-pole motor design provides smooth, predictable power delivery with virtually no cogging, whilst the 2mm diameter output shaft interfaces with standard 1/28 pinions. The ESC itself is remarkably compact at 22.7x14.2x11.8mm and weighs only 5g, small enough that it doesn't burden the vehicle's handling characteristics. Build quality throughout both components reflects competition-grade standards: the motor features CNC-machined aluminium construction, high-quality ball bearings (D5×D2×T2.5), and explosion-proof rotor design, whilst the ESC's all-metal case serves dual purposes as both protective enclosure and thermal radiator. The integrated switch-mode BEC operates at up to 3.5A and adjustable output voltage (6V or 7.4V), providing flexible power for various servo types and accessory combinations. With support for 26 different tuneable parameters covering throttle response, brake characteristics, timing advance, and competition modes, experienced drivers can extract maximum performance and handling precision from their setups, whilst the pre-configured Zero Timing and Modified modes offer plug-and-play operation for newcomers to 1/28 scale racing.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the EZRUN MINI28 combo suitable for beginners to RC racing? — Yes, this combo is an excellent choice for drivers new to RC car racing in the UK. The brushless motor provides smooth, predictable power delivery, whilst the pre-configured Zero Timing and Modified competition modes allow immediate use without complex setup. However, the 26 tuneable parameters offer experienced competitors the flexibility to extract maximum performance, making this a system that grows with your skills. The sensored design ensures consistent low-speed response, making the vehicle easier to control during learning.
- What battery does the EZRUN MINI28 combo require? — This system is designed specifically for 2S LiPo (7.4V nominal) batteries. The ESC is rated for 2-cell lithium-polymer configurations and optimises performance within this voltage range. For best results, use quality 2S LiPo packs designed for 1/28 scale racing applications, ensuring the pack's discharge rating (typically 30C or higher) matches the system's 30A continuous current requirements.
- Can I use the EZRUN MINI28 ESC in other RC vehicles besides 1/28 cars? — Whilst the ESC is specifically designed and optimised for 1/28 scale cars, it may theoretically work with other small-scale vehicles using similar voltage and current characteristics. However, Hobbywing engineered this combo exclusively for 1/28 competition, and the 1626 motor mount is designed for cradle-style mounting common in 1/28 chassis. For other scales, Hobbywing manufactures dedicated ESC and motor combinations designed specifically for those applications.
- How do I program the EZRUN MINI28 ESC parameters? — The ESC supports three programming methods: the on-board SET key (though this method is limited), the Hobbywing LCD G2 setting box (compatible and recommended for intuitive parameter adjustment), or the external OTA Bluetooth module with smartphone app (offering the most convenience and wireless functionality). All three methods allow access to the complete library of 26 tuneable parameters for customising performance characteristics.
- Is the motor waterproof? — No, neither the EZRUN MINI28 ESC nor the 1626 motor features waterproof ratings. These components are designed for track racing in dry conditions. If you plan to race in wet conditions or off-road environments, water protection should be considered before operating in such conditions.
- What is the maximum output current of the EZRUN MINI28 ESC? — The ESC provides a continuous output current of 30A with a peak current capability of 80A, delivering substantial power for high-performance 1/28 racing whilst maintaining stability and reliability through its all-metal thermal management design.
- Can I upgrade the motor connector? — Yes, the standard combo includes XT30 connector option available as a purchasable upgrade if preferred over the standard configuration, allowing flexibility for different battery configurations or personal preferences.
- What makes the 1626 motor different from larger brushless motors? — The 1626 motor has been specifically engineered for 1/28 scale applications with optimised torque curves, efficiency characteristics, and mechanical design for these vehicles. At 3500KV with sensored design, it delivers precision response and excellent low-speed control compared to generic brushless motors. The motor's light weight (18g), small diameter (16mm), and modular design allow it to fit perfectly within 1/28 chassis whilst maximising performance.
- How can I improve the performance of this combo? — The 26 tuneable parameters allow comprehensive performance optimisation. Key adjustments include Boost/Turbo timing (to increase top speed), brake frequency and softening (to improve stopping control), and throttle PWM frequency (to fine-tune responsiveness). Start with the pre-configured competition modes and adjust parameters incrementally based on track conditions and personal driving style.
- What is the difference between this 3500KV version and the 6500KV variant? — The 3500KV motor in this combo delivers lower top speed but higher torque, providing better acceleration and mid-range power suitable for technical tracks with turns. The 6500KV variant available separately offers higher top speed with less torque, suited to open, speed-focused layouts. Choose based on your track type and racing style.
