Technical Performance

The Hobbywing UBEC 25A HV represents the pinnacle of UBEC technology for serious RC helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft operators. This switch-mode regulator accepts an impressively wide input voltage range from 9V to 80V (equivalent to 3S through 18S LiPo battery configurations), giving you absolute freedom in your battery selection and system design. The high-efficiency DC-DC voltage-regulating chip paired with specially designed circuit hardware delivers conversion efficiency exceeding 90%, meaning the majority of your battery's energy reaches your receiver and servos rather than being wasted as heat. The continuous output current of 25A with peak capability reaching 50A sets this UBEC apart from basic alternatives, enabling it to reliably power large helicopters with multiple servos, complex fixed-wing aircraft with numerous control surfaces, or any RC system where current demand exceeds what standard regulators can safely provide. The metal case construction is not merely cosmetic—it actively dissipates heat away from critical internal components and shields the circuitry from electromagnetic interference that could degrade signal quality in your RC receiver. This engineering attention directly translates to more reliable flight performance and fewer mysterious control glitches. The unit measures just 55x40.2x17.6mm and weighs a mere 74 grams, making it compact enough to integrate into any RC installation without adding significant weight or taking up valuable space in your airframe or chassis.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can the UBEC 25A HV power multiple servos simultaneously? — Yes, absolutely. The 25A continuous current output with 50A peak capability makes this UBEC perfect for powering multiple servos in large helicopters or complex aircraft. Up to 8 channels of outputs can be connected in parallel for even higher current capacity, allowing you to safely run numerous servos, receivers, and electronic components from a single regulated power source.
  • What is the difference between the UBEC 25A HV and standard UBEC regulators? — The UBEC 25A HV is a switch-mode high-voltage regulator capable of handling input voltages from 3S to 18S LiPo (9V to 80V), whilst many basic UBECs are limited to lower voltage ranges and linear mode operation. The switch-mode design generates far less heat, the 25A/50A current rating far exceeds typical UBEC specifications, and the integrated backup power supply function provides safety features not found on budget alternatives. This makes it specifically suited for large helicopters and high-performance aircraft applications.
  • Does this UBEC require a separate battery? — The main UBEC draws power from your primary LiPo battery pack (3S to 18S). However, there is an optional backup power supply input that accepts a small 1S to 2S LiPo battery (3V to 9V) to maintain receiver power if the main supply fails—though this is optional and not required for basic operation.
  • Is the UBEC 25A HV suitable for RC cars and vehicles? — Whilst the UBEC 25A HV is primarily designed for large helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft that require substantial receiver and servo power, it can certainly be used in high-power RC cars, trucks, and buggies with multiple servos. The wide voltage input range makes it compatible with any modern brushless RC system running 3S to 18S battery configurations.
  • What are the four output voltage options available? — The UBEC 25A HV offers four adjustable output voltage settings: 5.2V, 6.0V, 7.4V, and 8.4V. This allows you to match the output perfectly to your specific receiver and servo requirements. Some vintage receivers operate at 5.2V, whilst modern servos often prefer 6V or 7.4V, and this flexibility eliminates the need to own multiple UBEC units with different fixed outputs.
  • How does the backup power supply switching function work? — The backup power supply feature is an advanced safety system. If your main UBEC fails or the main battery supply is interrupted, a separate backup battery (1S to 2S LiPo, 3V to 9V) automatically supplies power to your receiver and servos, allowing you to maintain control and execute a safe landing. This is particularly valuable in helicopter operations where loss of control is extremely dangerous.
  • What protections does the UBEC 25A HV include? — This UBEC incorporates comprehensive multi-layer protection: shoot-through protection (preventing direct main battery voltage from reaching the output if the UBEC fails), over-current protection (preventing excessive current draw), short-circuit protection (preventing damage from accidental wire contact), overheat protection (shutting down if internal temperature becomes excessive), and low-voltage cutoff (protecting your batteries from over-discharge). These protections work together to safeguard your entire RC system.
  • Is this UBEC good for beginners? — The UBEC 25A HV is recommended for intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts rather than complete beginners. It's designed for large helicopters and high-performance aircraft where understanding UBEC functionality and proper battery management is assumed. Beginners should start with simpler, fixed-output regulators before progressing to adjustable, high-current UBECs like this one.
  • What is the conversion efficiency rating? — The UBEC 25A HV achieves over 90% conversion efficiency through its switch-mode design and high-quality DC-DC voltage-regulating chip. This means more of your battery's energy reaches your receiver and servos, with minimal power loss as heat—a critical advantage in long flying sessions.
  • Can I use this UBEC with an 18S LiPo battery? — Yes, the UBEC 25A HV is specifically rated for input voltages up to 80V, which corresponds to 18S LiPo configuration (approximately 3.2V nominal per cell × 18 cells = 57.6V nominal, or 75.6V fully charged). This makes it one of the few UBECs on the market suitable for extreme high-voltage RC applications.
