Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing Tunalyzer suitable for beginners? — Yes, the Tunalyzer is designed with beginners in mind, despite its advanced capabilities. The automatic test mode requires minimal setup—simply connect your motor and press start to receive comprehensive test results. The 3-inch colour touch screen display uses an intuitive interface that is extremely quick to learn. However, the device truly shines for experienced RC enthusiasts who want to dive deeper into motor characterisation, competitive tuning and ESC programming, making it a tool you will grow into and rely upon throughout your RC hobby journey.
  • What battery does the Tunalyzer need, and can I use my RC car's battery? — The Tunalyzer requires an input voltage between 6V and 16.8V, which means it is compatible with 2S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal), 3S LiPo batteries (11.1V nominal) and 4S LiPo batteries (14.8V nominal). Yes, you can use the same LiPo packs that power your RC cars, buggies and trucks. The internal voltage regulator will maintain consistent test voltage as the battery discharges, though the battery must always exceed the preset voltage threshold you select. This means you can test multiple motors back-to-back without needing to swap or recharge batteries between tests.
  • What motors can the Tunalyzer test? — The Tunalyzer is compatible with virtually any brushless DC motor used in RC applications. It specifically supports both sensored brushless motors (which include hall effect sensors for smooth low-speed control) and sensorless brushless motors (which use back-EMF detection). The device accommodates motor pole counts from 2 poles up to 60 poles, covering everything from ultra-high-speed low-pole motors in racing buggies through to multipolar sensored motors in high-torque trucks and crawlers. Whether you own 1/10-scale racing cars, 1/8-scale buggies, 1/10-scale monster trucks or any other brushless-powered RC vehicle, the Tunalyzer will test its motor accurately.
  • Can the Tunalyzer really test both sensored and sensorless motors? — Yes, the Tunalyzer is designed to accurately test both motor types. However, it is important to note that sensorless motor characteristics may differ from sensored motor results due to the different operating principles (back-EMF detection versus hall sensor feedback). Test data for sensorless motors is only available for specific items, so consult the detailed instruction manual for information about your particular motor type. This dual compatibility makes the Tunalyzer a truly universal motor testing solution for any RC car or truck you own.
