Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing Skywalker 2320SL suitable for beginners learning RC aircraft flying? — Yes, this motor is suitable for RC enthusiasts with basic to intermediate flying experience. The 1250KV rating provides balanced power delivery without being overly aggressive, and compatibility with standard 3-4S LiPo batteries means the motor works with commonly available battery systems. However, beginners should ensure they have appropriate brushless ESC equipment and understand proper propeller selection for their aircraft weight and design.
  • What battery specifications does this motor require, and will it work with my existing RC battery? — The Skywalker 2320SL is designed for 3-4S LiPo battery systems. A 3S LiPo battery provides 11.1V nominal voltage (approximately 12.6V fully charged), whilst a 4S LiPo provides 14.8V nominal (approximately 16.8V fully charged). The motor's no-load current specification is given at 14.8V (4S equivalent), meaning it will draw slightly less current from a 3S battery. You should verify your existing battery voltage before connecting; using battery voltages outside the 3-4S range may damage the motor or ESC.
  • How does the Skywalker 2320SL compare to other motors in the Skywalker range? — Hobbywing manufactures the Skywalker series in three sizes: 2312, 2316, and 2320. The 2320 is the largest in the series, with dimensions of 28.8mm diameter by 54mm length and weighs 92 grams. The 2320SL 1250KV model specifically offers a mid-range KV rating within the 2320 size, making it suitable for moderate-speed aircraft. The 2320 range also includes 860KV and 1100KV variants offering lower speeds with higher torque, and the larger 2316 variant provides different performance characteristics. The 1250KV variant balances speed and torque effectively for general-purpose flying.
  • What propeller sizes work best with the 1250KV Skywalker motor? — For 3S LiPo systems, recommended propellers include 9x4.5E, 9x6E, and 10x6E, providing different pitch options for various flight characteristics. For 4S LiPo systems, use 8x4E or 9x4.5E propellers. The propeller mounting utilises a 12mm diameter clip mounting with three M2.5 threads for secure attachment. Selection depends on your aircraft's weight, desired flight characteristics and battery capacity; lighter aircraft benefit from higher-pitch propellers whilst heavier designs may require lower-pitch, higher-torque options.
  • Does this motor require a specific ESC, and can I use non-Hobbywing controllers? — Whilst not absolutely required, Hobbywing recommends the Skywalker V2 40A-50A ESC range, which is specifically tuned to work optimally with this motor. Any quality 50-ampere brushless ESC designed for aircraft use should function correctly with this motor, provided it supports 3-4S LiPo batteries and matches the current handling requirements. The motor's specifications are standard for brushless aircraft motors, so compatibility with alternative ESC brands is generally good.
