Key Features

  • FOC Sensored Technology — The field-oriented control algorithm combined with sensored feedback ensures that the motor delivers smooth, predictable power delivery with superior throttle response, which is essential for precise control during technical rock crawling manoeuvres and obstacle navigation.
  • 2300KV Power Rating — This moderate KV rating is specifically tuned for crawler applications, providing excellent torque characteristics that allow your RC vehicle to maintain grip and pulling power across challenging terrain, whilst the sensored design extracts maximum efficiency from the motor's design.
  • Brushless Motor Construction — Brushless motors eliminate the wear associated with brushes and commutators found in brushed motors, resulting in significantly longer lifespan, reduced maintenance requirements, and more consistent performance over thousands of operating hours of RC car use.
  • Four-Pole Motor Design — The four-pole construction contributes to the motor's smooth operation and efficient power delivery, ensuring that you experience minimal vibration and noise whilst maintaining excellent starting torque for crawling applications.
  • Compact 540 Motor Size — The 540-class motor size is the industry standard for 1/10th scale RC vehicles, offering excellent compatibility with most crawler chassis designs and allowing straightforward integration into existing setups without extensive modifications.
  • Sensored Operation — Unlike sensorless motors that rely on back-EMF detection, the sensored design uses internal hall-effect sensors to provide real-time rotor position feedback, enabling the ESC to deliver optimal commutation timing from zero RPM upwards, which dramatically improves starting torque and throttle smoothness.
  • Precision Engineering — Built to Hobbywing's exacting quality standards, every component is engineered for reliability and longevity, ensuring that your investment in this motor will be repaid through years of dependable service in your RC rock crawler or trail truck.
  • 3.175mm Shaft Diameter — This standard pinion shaft diameter offers compatibility with a vast range of gearbox designs and pinion gears available for 1/10th scale RC cars, giving you flexibility in your setup and drivetrain configuration options.

Technical Performance

The Hobbywing XERUN AXE540 2300KV R2 FOC Sensored Brushless Motor represents the fusion of advanced motor engineering and intelligent electronic control. With a 36mm outer diameter and 49.8mm length, this 540-class motor slots seamlessly into most 1/10th scale RC crawler frames without requiring chassis modifications. Weighing just 185 grams, the motor maintains a light overall vehicle setup whilst delivering impressive power characteristics. The four-pole brushless construction provides smooth operation with minimal cogging, whilst the sensored design ensures that commutation is perfectly timed from startup, delivering superior starting torque compared to sensorless alternatives. The 2300KV rating is specifically chosen for crawler applications, where pulling power and torque are prioritised over raw speed. Running on 2-3S LiPo batteries (7.4V to 11.1V), the motor operates within a practical power range for 1/10th scale vehicles. The no-load current of 2.5A indicates excellent efficiency, meaning more of your battery's energy is converted to useful work rather than waste heat. The 3.175mm shaft diameter accepts standard pinion gears, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's gearing for different terrain types and driving styles. The FOC algorithm optimises power delivery by continuously adjusting current flow based on rotor position feedback from the internal hall-effect sensors, resulting in smooth acceleration, predictable throttle response, and improved efficiency throughout the operating range. This is the motor specification sheet of a device engineered for serious RC crawling competition and challenging terrain exploration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing XERUN AXE540 2300KV suitable for rock crawler RC vehicles? — Yes, absolutely. This motor is specifically engineered for 1/10th scale rock crawlers. The 2300KV rating prioritises torque delivery over raw speed, making it perfect for technical climbing, obstacle negotiation, and crawling over challenging terrain. The sensored FOC technology ensures smooth throttle response when navigating difficult courses, which is essential for crawler driving where fine throttle control determines success or failure.
  • What is the difference between sensored and sensorless brushless motors? — Sensored motors like this XERUN AXE540 R2 incorporate internal hall-effect sensors that monitor rotor position, allowing the ESC to time commutation perfectly at all speeds, including zero RPM. This results in superior starting torque, smoother acceleration, and better efficiency. Sensorless motors rely on back-EMF detection, which cannot function at zero speed, resulting in weaker starting torque and less smooth power delivery. For crawler applications requiring precise throttle control and strong starting power, sensored is the superior choice.
  • What battery does the XERUN AXE540 2300KV R2 require? — This motor is compatible with 2S or 3S LiPo batteries. A 2S battery provides 7.4V nominal voltage, whilst a 3S battery provides 11.1V nominal voltage. For crawler applications, a 3S LiPo battery is often preferred as it delivers greater power and better hill-climbing ability, though a quality 2S pack will also work well. Always ensure your ESC is rated for sensored operation and that your battery connector matches your ESC specifications.
  • What does FOC mean and why does it matter? — FOC stands for Field-Oriented Control, an advanced algorithm that optimises the way electrical current flows through the motor windings based on real-time rotor position feedback. This technology reduces power losses, improves efficiency, provides smoother throttle response, and generates better starting torque. For RC crawlers where consistency and smooth control matter greatly, FOC technology is a significant advantage over older commutation methods.
  • Will this motor work with my existing RC car setup? — The XERUN AXE540 2300KV R2 is a 540-class motor with a 3.175mm shaft, which is the industry standard for 1/10th scale RC vehicles. However, you must ensure your ESC is rated for sensored brushless motor operation, as not all ESCs support sensored motors. Additionally, you'll need to ensure the motor mounting hardware in your chassis is compatible with the 36mm diameter and 49.8mm length dimensions. Most modern 1/10th scale crawler frames are compatible, but always verify before purchasing.
  • How does the no-load current specification of 2.5A affect my battery choice? — No-load current indicates how much current the motor draws when spinning freely without driving any load. A no-load current of 2.5A is very reasonable and indicates an efficient motor design. This means that under actual load conditions, the motor will draw manageable current from your battery, extending runtime and reducing heat buildup. Pairing this motor with a quality capacity LiPo battery will provide excellent runtimes for weekend crawling sessions.
