Technical Performance
The Hobbywing XERUN V10 6T G3 is a 1/10 scale brushless sensored motor designed as a 540-size unit with a 3.17mm (0.125-inch) diameter shaft and 13.3mm shaft length. With a 5500 KV rating, this motor reaches a theoretical maximum of approximately 11,000 RPM on a 2S LiPo battery, though real-world performance depends on your ESC programming and load. The motor produces a maximum power output of 415 watts with a peak current draw of 113 amps at full throttle, making it suitable for quality modern brushless ESCs rated for 120 amps or higher. The two-pole brushless design delivers smooth, linear power characteristics essential for precision racing. The motor's outer diameter of 35.9mm fits the standard 540-size mounting found on most modern 1/10 scale 4WD off-road racing buggies, and the 162-gram weight keeps your power system compact and light. The high-precision rotor and stator assembly, combined with international-specification precision bearings and quality copper components throughout, ensures this motor will deliver consistent performance year after year when properly maintained. The sensored design means you benefit from smooth low-end torque without cogging, essential for out-of-the-box reliability and impressive acceleration characteristics that make this motor competitive in Modified class racing across BRCA, EFRA, and other UK racing formats.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Hobbywing XERUN V10 6T G3 suitable for competitive racing in the UK? — Yes, absolutely. This motor is specifically designed for Modified class racing and carries BRCA and EFRA approval, meaning it meets all technical regulations for sanctioned competitive events across the UK and Europe. The G3 generation improvements in torque and RPM make it genuinely competitive at club and regional level racing.
- What is the difference between the 6T and other turn counts in the V10 G3 range? — Turn count refers to the number of windings on the motor's rotor coil. A 6T (six-turn) motor has fewer windings than higher turn counts like 8.5T, resulting in a higher KV rating (around 5500 KV for this 6T versus lower KV for higher turn counts). The 6T delivers more RPM and speed but less torque, making it ideal for modified class racing on tracks where top speed matters. Higher turn counts provide more torque but lower top speed, better for technical tracks with slower corners.
- What battery does the XERUN V10 6T G3 require? — This motor is rated for 2S LiPo battery use (2-cell, 7.4 volts nominal, typically 8.4 volts fully charged). The motor produces 415 watts maximum power output at around 113 amps peak current, so you'll need a high-discharge-rate LiPo battery rated for at least 120 amps continuous output, typically a 5000mAh to 7000mAh capacity in 2S configuration for racing applications.
- Can I use this motor as a drop-in replacement for my old V10 G2? — The XERUN V10 6T G3 uses the same standard 540-size motor mounting as the V10 G2, so it will physically fit in any chassis designed for 540-size motors. However, the improved performance characteristics (16% higher KV, 4% higher torque) mean you may need to retune your ESC settings and adjust your gearing or pinion to achieve the handling balance you're used to. It's not purely plug-and-play from a performance perspective.
- How does the asymmetric bearing design improve performance? — The enlarged front bearing (26% larger) provides greater load-carrying capacity and stability under acceleration, preventing flex and wobble when you're pushing throttle hard out of corners. The reduced rear bearing (6% smaller) minimises rotational resistance and friction, lowering drag and improving efficiency. Together, these opposing changes create a motor that runs more stably at high RPM whilst remaining responsive and efficient.
- What does sensored mean, and why does it matter? — Sensored means the motor includes a Hall-effect sensor that detects rotor position, allowing the ESC to deliver precisely timed power pulses. This eliminates cogging (jerky low-speed response) and provides smooth, linear acceleration from standstill, which is crucial for race starts and consistent throttle control throughout a race. Sensorless motors are cheaper but deliver less predictable low-end response.
- How do I adjust the mechanical timing, and what does it do? — Mechanical timing adjustment changes when the motor's commutation happens relative to the rotor position. This motor offers stepless adjustment from 20 to 50 degrees (for Modified class). Advancing timing increases peak RPM and top speed but can make the motor run hot; retarding timing improves low-end torque and heat management. Most competitive racers adjust timing to suit track conditions and their driving style. The skid-proof alignment lines ensure your adjustment stays locked during racing.
- What is the no-load current, and what does it tell me? — The 4.5-amp no-load current (current draw with no load connected) is relatively low and indicates good bearing quality and rotor balance. Higher no-load currents would suggest bearing friction or rotor imbalance, which wastes battery energy and generates heat. This motor's low no-load current contributes to excellent efficiency and runtime.
- How does the weight reduction (11% lighter) benefit my RC racing? — The 162-gram motor weight is significantly lighter than previous generations, which lowers your overall vehicle weight and allows you to reposition weight for better weight distribution and balance. This translates to improved cornering grip, quicker direction changes, and easier weight-tuning for different track conditions. Every gram saved in the motor can be redistributed elsewhere in your chassis for optimal performance.
- Can I purchase alternative end plates with smaller holes for off-road use? — Yes, Hobbywing offers end plates with smaller holes designed to keep sand and dirt out of the motor whilst still allowing cooling. These are suitable if you plan to use this motor in 5.5T to 8.5T applications (off-road vehicles), though the 6T is primarily a Modified on-road motor. You can purchase and swap end plates as needed for your application.
