This is a purpose-built ESC engineered specifically for fixed-wing RC planes, delivering professional-grade performance at a price point that makes it ideal for everything from beginner RTF models to intermediate competition builds. The Skywalker V2 series has earned its reputation as one of the most trusted brushless ESC ranges in the RC hobby, combining cutting-edge technology with genuine affordability that makes it accessible to pilots at any skill level.

Whether you're flying trainer planes, aerobatic models, or high-performance racing aircraft, the Skywalker 60A V2 provides the smooth, responsive throttle control and rock-solid reliability that RC pilots demand. This ESC is particularly popular among UK RC modellers who appreciate quality engineering without the premium price tag of competing brands. The controller has been purpose-designed to handle the unique demands of aircraft flight, where smooth power delivery, precise control, and absolute reliability are non-negotiable. If you're searching for a brushless RC ESC that won't let you down, the Skywalker 60A V2 deserves serious consideration.

Built on the platform that has earned hundreds of thousands of satisfied users worldwide, this V2 iteration brings meaningful improvements in efficiency, heat management, and programmability. The Skywalker series stands apart because Hobbywing invested in understanding exactly what RC aircraft pilots need—and then engineered it into every aspect of this controller. From the moment you unbox it, you'll notice the quality construction, the professional-grade connectors, and the attention to detail that characterises everything Hobbywing produces.

Key Features

  • High-Performance 32-bit ARM M0 Processor — This isn't basic hardware; the ESC runs a sophisticated 32-bit ARM microprocessor clocked at up to 96MHz, delivering lightning-fast decision-making and response times that translate into buttery-smooth throttle control during flight. This processor can support maximum motor speeds up to 300,000 RPM with 2-pole motors, giving you the headroom needed for high-performance aerobatic and racing builds.
  • DEO Technology (Driving Efficiency Optimization) — Hobbywing's proprietary DEO technology is a game-changer for RC pilots. This intelligent system optimises driving efficiency, which means faster and smoother throttle response during flight, better overall stability, and improved flexibility in control. The practical benefits are huge: your aircraft responds more precisely to stick inputs, your motor runs cooler (meaning longer flights and better reliability), and you'll extract noticeably better performance from your battery on every flight.
  • Active Freewheeling — Complementing the DEO system, active freewheeling technology further reduces ESC temperatures during flight while improving energy efficiency. This means your controller stays cooler even under demanding conditions, which extends its lifespan and ensures consistent performance throughout your flying session without thermal throttling or shutdown.
  • Reverse Brake with Multiple Modes — This is a registered Hobbywing patent for good reason. The Reverse Brake feature, combined with Linear Reverse Brake mode, allows you to dramatically shorten your landing distance and simulate realistic aircraft landing characteristics. You also get Normal Brake Mode with adjustable brake force, and a Brake Disabled mode for full flexibility in how your aircraft handles on landing.
  • Search Mode — If your aircraft comes down in difficult terrain or undergrowth, the integrated Search Mode will pulse your motor to produce an audible beeping sound, making it much easier to locate your model. This mode also acts as a safety feature, prompting you to disconnect the battery from an inactive ESC after a set time to prevent battery discharge damage.
  • Programmable Parameters via Multiple Methods — You can programme the Skywalker 60A V2 either with the optional LED Program Box or directly through your transmitter—whichever is more convenient for you. Programmable settings include brake type, brake force, cut-off voltage, LiPo cell count settings, start-up characteristics, timing, and active freewheeling intensity, giving you complete control over how the ESC behaves.
  • Multiple Protection Systems — This ESC incorporates comprehensive protection circuitry that guards against abnormal input voltage, ESC thermal overload, throttle signal loss (fail-safe), and low voltage cutoff. These overlapping protection systems effectively extend the life of your ESC and prevent damage from electrical issues or battery problems.
  • High-Quality Build and Connectors — The 60A V2 features gold-plated 4.0mm connectors on the input side for clean, reliable power delivery, and uses properly sized wiring with 12AWG input leads (100mm length) and 14AWG output leads to the motor. This attention to connector quality and wire sizing is exactly what separates quality ESCs from budget alternatives.

Technical Performance

The Skywalker 60A V2 delivers genuine 60-amp continuous current capacity, with an 80-amp peak rating for up to 10 seconds during high-demand manoeuvres. This rating makes it suitable for everything from smaller aerobatic planes to mid-sized models with moderate power demands. The ESC is engineered to work seamlessly with 3S to 6S LiPo batteries (11.1V to 22.2V nominal), though the input voltage range actually accommodates a wider spread to handle battery sag and charge variations. The onboard BEC (battery eliminator circuit) outputs a stable 5V at 7 amps using switch-mode regulation, which is more than sufficient to power your receiver, servo actuators, and other aircraft systems—no separate BEC required. The physical dimensions of 73 x 30 x 12mm and weight of just 68 grams make this a genuinely lightweight addition to your airframe, critical for maintaining weight efficiency on RC aircraft where every gram matters. The engineering inside reflects Hobbywing's commitment to efficiency: the combination of the ARM processor, DEO technology, and active freewheeling means you'll see less heat dissipation, longer flight times, and more consistent performance throughout your battery cycle compared to older ESC designs. This is aircraft-specific ESC design done right, with every engineering choice made to optimise the flying experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Hobbywing Skywalker 60A V2 suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aircraft? — Absolutely. The Skywalker series is specifically recommended for RTF models and beginners building their first aircraft. The robust construction, reliable performance, and forgiving nature of the controller make it ideal for inexperienced pilots. The programmable settings can be left at factory defaults for straightforward operation, or explored gradually as your skills develop. Beginners will particularly appreciate the fail-safe protection and low voltage cutoff, which prevent common mistakes from causing damage.
  • What is the difference between the 60A and other models in the Skywalker V2 range? — The 60A V2 sits in the middle of the range, offering 60A continuous / 80A peak performance. Larger models with bigger motors would benefit from the 80A or 100A variants, whilst smaller trainer aircraft might use the 40A or 50A versions. The 60A is the sweet spot for intermediate-sized planes with moderate to strong motors, offering plenty of headroom without paying for unnecessary capacity.
  • What battery does the Skywalker 60A V2 need? — This ESC accepts any LiPo battery from 3S (11.1V) up to 6S (22.2V) configuration. Many UK RC pilots use 4S (14.8V) batteries as the standard for aircraft, which is well within this range and offers excellent flight performance. Always match your battery capacity (measured in mAh) to your aircraft's power requirements and desired flight time—your aircraft manual or manufacturer will provide recommendations for specific models.
  • Can I programme this ESC without buying additional equipment? — Yes. The Skywalker 60A V2 supports transmitter programming, meaning you can adjust settings using your RC radio without needing separate hardware. However, if you plan to frequently adjust settings or work with multiple aircraft, the optional LED Program Box (HW30501003) provides a more convenient dedicated interface for programming.
  • How does the DEO Technology benefit my flying? — DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) provides three tangible benefits: faster throttle response means your aircraft responds more precisely to control input, improved stability during acrobatic manoeuvres, and reduced ESC temperature during flight. The cooler running ESC means more consistent performance without thermal throttling, and the improved efficiency can extend your flight times noticeably—a genuine advantage during competition or longer flights.
  • Is this ESC waterproof? — The Skywalker 60A V2 is not fully waterproofed. Whilst it's robust and reliable in normal conditions, you should protect it from direct water immersion. It will handle moisture exposure during typical flying conditions, but should not be submerged or flown in heavy rain. Install it in a protected location in your airframe whenever possible.
  • What makes the Search Mode useful? — If your aircraft comes down in long grass, trees, or other difficult terrain, locating it can be challenging. The Search Mode pulses your motor to create audible beeping sounds, allowing you to track down your aircraft by ear. This feature has saved countless models from being lost in the field.
