Key Features
- 32-bit ARM M4 Master Processor — The ESC features a high-performance 32-bit ARM M4 microprocessor running at frequencies up to 120MHz, delivering lightning-fast processing power that enables incredibly responsive throttle control and stable power delivery regardless of flying conditions.
- Exceptional Motor Compatibility — Capable of handling brushless motors with up to 300,000 RPM (on 2-pole motors), the SkyWalker 120A V2 provides flexibility for a 60-67 inch 3D fixed-wing aircraft, making it suitable for a wide variety of aircraft platforms and motor combinations.
- DEO Technology (Driving Efficiency Optimization) — This proprietary Hobbywing technology dramatically improves throttle response smoothness, enhancing stability and flexibility during flight whilst simultaneously improving driving efficiency for longer flight times and cooler operating temperatures, meaning you spend more time in the air and less time waiting for your ESC to cool between flights.
- Reverse Brake and Linear Reverse Brake Modes — Hobbywing's registered patented reverse brake system enables you to effectively shorten landing distances by allowing your aircraft to simulate real-world aircraft landing characteristics, with adjustable brake amounts in normal brake mode for fine-tuning your setup.
- Search Mode for Lost Aircraft — If your aircraft becomes difficult to locate after landing in a visually obstructed area, the search mode pulses your motor to generate audible beep signals, helping you track down your plane and retrieve it safely, whilst also prompting battery disconnection after a set period to prevent battery damage from over-discharge.
- Comprehensive Programmable Parameters — The ESC supports full programmability via LED Program Box or transmitter, allowing you to customise throttle curves, brake settings, frequency modulation and numerous other parameters to match your exact flying style and aircraft characteristics.
- Multiple Protection Systems — Integrated protections include abnormal input voltage detection, ESC thermal management, throttle signal loss failsafe, and low voltage cutoff, effectively prolonging ESC lifespan and preventing damage to your RC aircraft electronics.
- Switch Mode BEC Output — The built-in switch-mode Battery Elimination Circuit provides selectable 5V, 6V, 7.4V, or 8.4V output at 10A continuous (30A peak), powering your receiver, servos and accessories without requiring a separate battery pack, simplifying your aircraft build.
Technical Performance
The SkyWalker 120A V2 delivers outstanding technical specifications that justify its position as a premium RC aircraft ESC. With a continuous current rating of 120 amps and peak current handling of 150 amps for up to 10 seconds, this ESC provides the power headroom necessary for aggressive flying, 3D manoeuvres and high-performance aerobatic aircraft. The 32-bit ARM M4 processor operating at 120MHz ensures that power delivery is smooth, responsive and absolutely stable across the entire throttle range, even during demanding flight patterns. The ESC is specifically designed for brushless motor aircraft use and supports 3-8S LiPo batteries, giving you tremendous flexibility in battery selection to match your aircraft weight, power requirements and desired flight characteristics. The gold-plated 4.0mm connectors ensure reliable electrical connections with minimal resistance, reducing power loss and heat generation during operation. The compact form factor measuring just 83x35x22mm keeps weight to a minimum at only 117 grams, critical for maintaining your aircraft's centre of gravity and overall performance envelope. Input is provided via pre-soldered 10AWG wires in both red and black (150mm length), whilst motor output uses three black 12AWG wires (100mm length) terminated with 4.0mm gold connectors, providing robust connections suitable for high-current applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the maximum battery voltage this SkyWalker 120A V2 can safely handle? — The ESC supports input voltage from 3S to 8S LiPo batteries, meaning it can safely handle battery packs ranging from 3 cells (11.1V nominal) up to 8 cells (29.6V nominal), providing compatibility with a wide range of aircraft power systems and allowing you to choose the battery configuration that best suits your flying style and aircraft design.
- Is the Hobbywing SkyWalker 120A V2 suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aircraft? — Whilst the SkyWalker V2 is an advanced ESC with professional-grade features and capabilities, it's not specifically designed as a beginner's product due to its high current capacity and medium-to-high voltage requirements. However, if you're a beginner planning to build or use a medium to high-performance fixed-wing aircraft with a brushless motor, this ESC offers excellent value because its comprehensive programmable features and multiple protection systems actually make learning safer, and you won't outgrow it as your skills improve.
- What battery does the Hobbywing SkyWalker 120A V2 need? — The ESC requires a 3-8S LiPo battery pack, meaning any lithium polymer battery from 3 cells (11.1V) up to 8 cells (29.6V) will work. The specific battery capacity you choose depends on your aircraft weight, motor selection, and desired flight time; a heavier aircraft or more powerful motor typically benefits from larger capacity batteries (measured in milliamp-hours or mAh) to maintain adequate runtime and voltage stability under load.
- Can I programme this ESC without buying an expensive programmer? — Yes, the SkyWalker 120A V2 supports programming via your RC transmitter, allowing you to adjust parameters directly without additional equipment. However, Hobbywing does offer the optional LED Program Box (model HW30501003) for around £20-30, which provides convenient bench programming if you prefer not to use your transmitter, making it an affordable accessory for competitive pilots or those who programme their ESCs frequently.
- What is DEO Technology and why should I care about it? — DEO stands for Driving Efficiency Optimization, Hobbywing's proprietary technology that fundamentally improves how the ESC delivers power to your motor. It ensures faster and smoother throttle response, better flight stability and flexibility, higher driving efficiency (meaning longer flight times from the same battery), and crucially, lower operating temperatures, meaning your ESC runs cooler and lasts longer, and you experience less performance degradation during extended flights. For 3D extreme flying, you can disable this function if desired, but for most pilots, DEO significantly improves the flying experience.
- What happens if my aircraft loses its radio signal during flight? — The SkyWalker 120A V2 features throttle signal loss protection and failsafe functionality, which detects when your transmitter signal is lost and automatically responds according to your programmable settings, protecting your aircraft from dangerous out-of-control behaviour and allowing you to safely recover or prepare for landing.
- How does the search mode function work if I crash and lose my aircraft? — If your aircraft lands in grass, bushes or other visually obstructed areas and you can't find it visually, activating search mode causes the motor to pulse and beep, producing audible signals that help you locate your aircraft by sound. This feature has saved countless RC planes from being permanently lost, making it invaluable for outdoor flying where visibility of your aircraft can be challenging.
- What makes the SkyWalker V2 different from other RC ESCs in my local hobby shop? — The SkyWalker V2 specifically targets fixed-wing RC aircraft rather than RC cars, incorporating technologies like reverse brake and search mode that are designed for aircraft-specific requirements. The combination of the high-performance ARM M4 processor, DEO Technology, comprehensive protection systems, and reliable Hobbywing engineering makes it stand out from budget alternatives, whilst remaining more affordable than some specialist racing ESCs designed for other applications.
