Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the XERUN XR10 Pro Legacy suitable for racing beginners or competitive drivers? — The XR10 Pro Legacy bridges the gap between beginner-friendly and competition-grade equipment. Whilst the advanced features like Softening function, real-time data logging, and firmware optimisation appeal to serious racers, the straightforward operation and reliable performance make it accessible to experienced hobbyists upgrading from entry-level ESCs. For first-time builders, the built-in BEC, reverse polarity protection, and sensored motor support simplify setup considerably.
- What battery does the XERUN XR10 Pro Legacy require? — The ESC is designed exclusively for 2S LiPo battery systems with a maximum voltage of 7.4V. A 2S LiPo typically delivers 50–100C discharge rating depending on the capacity chosen; popular options in the UK market range from 2200mAh to 5000mAh depending on your vehicle type and desired runtime.
- Can I use this ESC with sensorless motors? — No, the XERUN XR10 Pro Legacy is specifically designed for sensored brushless motors. Sensored motors provide rotor position feedback to the ESC, enabling smoother acceleration, better efficiency, and more predictable throttle response compared to sensorless alternatives. This design choice makes the ESC better suited to precision racing where consistent performance matters.
- What are the motor size and torque specifications for my vehicle type? — For touring car racing applications, select a brushless motor rated 4.5T or higher. For buggy and off-road racing, choose a motor rated 5.5T or higher. The ESC also supports 3650 size (540) 2-pole motor configurations. Higher T (turn) ratings indicate lower KV and higher torque, whilst lower T ratings provide higher speed and lower torque.
- Do I need the OTA Bluetooth module or LCD Program Box? — The ESC includes basic programming via the SET button on the unit itself, making it usable immediately without additional equipment. However, the optional OTA Bluetooth module (sold separately) enables smartphone control and wireless firmware updates, whilst the LCD Program Box Pro offers a dedicated screen-based interface for advanced parameter tuning — particularly valuable for tracking settings across multiple vehicles or detailed competition analysis.
- How do I achieve full reverse polarity protection for my entire power system? — The ESC includes built-in reverse polarity protection for its own circuitry. To protect the capacitor as well, Hobbywing sells an optional non-polarised capacitor module separately; this upgrades the system to complete protection across all power components. Without this module, an incorrectly connected battery may damage the standard capacitor, though the ESC itself will remain protected.
