Technical Performance
The Hobbywing QuicRun Fusion 8IGHT SE represents a significant engineering achievement in integrated brushless power systems for RC crawlers. The motor specifications reveal a 1800KV four-pole sensored motor with a 41mm diameter and 69mm length, coupled to a sophisticated electronic speed controller rated for 60 amps continuous current (200A peak) operation. The system accepts 2-4S LiPo batteries or 6-12 cell NiMH packs, providing flexibility in battery selection whilst maintaining excellent performance across the voltage range. The FOC (Field Oriented Control) driving technology ensures that power delivery is linear and predictable, with exceptionally strong low-speed torque that is essential for overcoming obstacles and maintaining momentum whilst climbing. The sensored motor design provides precise feedback to the ESC, enabling smooth commutation and eliminating the cogging and irregularity that can occur with sensorless systems. This sensored approach is particularly valuable in rock crawling applications where fine control and consistency matter greatly. The 1800KV rating provides a balanced combination of torque and speed, ideal for 1/8th scale crawlers and suitable for lighter 1/7th scale applications. The integrated construction eliminates the need for separate wiring between motor and controller, reducing potential failure points and simplifying the installation process. The IP67 waterproofing means the entire system can handle splash, spray and submersion in water for short periods, whilst the switch mode BEC with selectable 6V or 7.4V output can supply up to 4A of continuous current to power high-torque servos without voltage sag. The thermal management systems monitor temperatures and provide protection, ensuring the system can run hard all day without overheating. UK RC enthusiasts will appreciate the combination of sophisticated technology and robust engineering that allows this system to deliver reliable performance in challenging conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Hobbywing QuicRun Fusion 8IGHT SE suitable for beginners to rock crawling? — Yes, the system is designed for ease of use with intuitive control characteristics. The FOC technology provides smooth power delivery that responds predictably to throttle input, making it forgiving for newer drivers. The three operating mode options allow you to select the driving experience that suits your preference and skill level. However, the system offers advanced customisation options that experienced builders and competitors will appreciate, making it suitable across the entire skill spectrum.
- What battery does this system require? — The Fusion 8IGHT SE accepts 2-4S LiPo batteries (2.7-14.8V) or 6-12 cell NiMH packs. Most users choose 3S or 4S LiPo batteries with XT60 connectors for optimal performance. A 4S LiPo (14.8V) configuration delivers maximum power and is recommended for serious crawling applications, whilst 3S LiPo (11.1V) provides a good balance of performance and component lifespan.
- How is the QuicRun Fusion 8IGHT SE different from a traditional brushless ESC and motor setup? — The Fusion 8IGHT SE integrates the motor and ESC into a single compact 41×69mm unit, eliminating separate components and dramatically simplifying installation. This integrated design creates cleaner wiring, reduced potential failure points and a smaller overall footprint. The system incorporates intelligent closed-loop torque control and sensored technology from the factory, tuned specifically for crawler applications. Most traditional setups require purchasing compatible components separately and integrating them yourself – the Fusion 8IGHT SE arrives ready to install.
- Is this system waterproof? — Yes, the entire Fusion 8IGHT SE system carries an IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating, meaning it can handle splashing, spraying and even temporary water immersion under normal use. This allows drivers to confidently operate in wet conditions including snow, ice, sand and water. However, IP67 protection is not permanent – it provides splash-proof and water-resistant capability under normal circumstances, but protective performance may diminish over time due to wear and aging. Avoid prolonged immersion in water as this may result in product damage.
- What is FOC (Field Oriented Control) and why does it matter? — FOC is an advanced motor control technology that provides superior linearity, incredibly strong low-speed torque and smooth power delivery compared to standard brushless or brushed systems. In practical terms, this means your RC crawler will have explosive low-speed torque for climbing obstacles, smooth throttle response that feels intuitive to drive, and excellent efficiency that extends runtime. FOC also enables the intelligent closed-loop speed control featured in this system.
- Can I programme the parameters myself? — Yes, the ESC offers 11 fully customisable parameters including running mode, LiPo cells, cutoff voltage, thermal protection, motor rotation direction, BEC voltage, drag brake force, drag brake rate, maximum reverse force, maximum brake force and RPM decrease rate. You can adjust these settings via the SET button on the ESC itself, or more conveniently using a LED Programme Box or advanced LCD Programme Box Pro. The LCD Programme Box Pro provides a user-friendly interface for making adjustments.
- What are the differences between the three operating modes? — The three modes are: Fixed Speed Mode (Direct Forward and Reverse) which maintains a constant speed once set; Normal Mode without Fixed Speed (Forward and Reverse with Brake) which allows variable speed control with active braking; and Normal Mode without Fixed Speed (Direct Forward and Reverse) which provides variable speed without braking function. You can select the mode that best suits your vehicle setup and driving preference.
- How much current can this system handle? — The QuicRun Fusion 8IGHT SE is rated for 60 amps continuous current, with 200 amp peak current capacity. This is more than sufficient for 1/8th scale crawler applications and ensures you have headroom for demanding power draws without thermal throttling.
- Will this system work with my existing crawler chassis? — The Fusion 8IGHT SE is specifically designed for 1/8th scale crawlers and is also suitable for 1/7th scale light-load climbing models. It will integrate into any 1/8th scale vehicle that accommodates a motor with a 5mm shaft diameter. The compact 41×69mm dimensions mean it will fit in tight spaces. Check your specific chassis manufacturer recommendations to ensure compatibility.
- What servos should I use with this system? — The integrated 6V/7.4V selectable BEC provides up to 4A of continuous current, making it suitable for powering standard and high-torque servos. You can select either 6V or 7.4V output depending on your servo requirements. Choose quality servos rated for rock crawling applications to ensure responsive steering and throttle control.
