Overview

The Team Associated RB10 Retro Kit is a stunning blend of classic RC racing heritage and modern engineering excellence. This 1/10 scale, 2WD electric buggy captures the authentic look, feel and attitude of vintage off-road racing from decades past, whilst delivering the performance, durability and adjustability that today's RC enthusiasts demand. Whether you're a seasoned competitor looking to relive the golden age of RC sport, or a newcomer to RC cars UK who appreciates timeless design, the RB10 Retro offers something truly special.

At its heart lies proven Team Associated B5 platform engineering, reimagined with a striking retro colour scheme. The Retro Blue anodised aluminium chassis, matching nose plate and exclusive grey moulded plastics create an unmistakable vintage aesthetic that turns heads at the track. Paired with an authentic retro Viper body and high-downforce 5.5" retro wing, this ready to assemble RC buggy delivers period-correct styling without compromising on modern race-ready performance and adjustability.

The RB10 Retro Kit is perfect for builders and enthusiasts who want to get hands-on with assembly, learning the ins and outs of their machine whilst creating something visually stunning. This is not a ready to run RC vehicle—it's a kit that requires full assembly—but the reward is a deeply satisfying building experience and a truly unique buggy that stands apart from contemporary competition machines.

Key Features

  • Retro Blue Anodised Aluminium B5 Tub Chassis (Rear Motor) — The foundation of the RB10 Retro is a robust rear-motor B5 chassis in distinctive Retro Blue anodised aluminium, delivering familiar handling characteristics whilst maintaining the durability and adjustability expected from modern Team Associated platforms. This configuration provides predictable, confidence-inspiring performance on variety of surfaces.
  • Retro Blue Anodised Aluminium Front Nose Plate — Matching the main chassis, the front nose plate maintains the cohesive retro aesthetic whilst providing structural support and protection to vital components. The anodised finish resists corrosion and wear, ensuring long-term durability for regular track use.
  • Exclusive Grey Moulded Plastic Components — Throughout the RB10 Retro, exclusive grey moulded plastic parts complement the blue aluminium chassis, creating an unmistakable vintage appearance that is instantly recognisable at any RC track in the UK. These components are engineered for durability while maintaining the authentic retro silhouette.
  • Authentic Retro Viper Body Included — The genuine retro Viper body design is iconic in RC racing history. This authentic reproduction brings genuine vintage character to your build, making the RB10 Retro immediately visually distinctive compared to modern contemporary RC buggies. The body is ready for paint and customisation to truly make it your own.
  • High-Downforce 5.5" Retro Wing — Included as standard, this purpose-designed retro wing combines period-correct styling with genuine aerodynamic benefit, providing high downforce to keep the RB10 planted at speed on today's modern racing tracks. The wing's profile is optimised for stability and control.
  • 12mm Hex Dish Wheels with High-Grip Off-Road Tyres — The RB10 Retro rides on 12mm hex dish wheels wrapped in high-grip off-road tyres, ensuring confident traction and predictable handling across a variety of surfaces. These wheels provide the authentic look whilst delivering genuine performance on dirt and carpet tracks.
  • Blue Anodised 12mm Big-Bore Coil-Over Shock Absorbers — Purpose-designed for the RB10 Retro platform, these aluminium coil-over shocks feature big-bore damping chambers for smooth, consistent bump compliance and reliable performance. The 12mm diameter design provides substantial damping authority whilst maintaining the retro aesthetic with their blue anodised finish.
  • B5 Rear-Motor Stealth Transmission — The proven Stealth transmission provides smooth, reliable power delivery with minimal complexity, allowing the classic lines of the chassis to remain uncluttered. This rear-motor layout is a hallmark of vintage RC racing design, delivering handling characteristics enthusiasts have loved for decades.
  • Rear CVA Driveshafts for Enhanced Durability — The rear driveshafts utilise CVA (Constant Velocity Axle) technology, providing increased durability and reliability compared to simpler designs. This engineering upgrade ensures your RB10 Retro Kit can handle regular track sessions without premature wear or failure.
  • 2.6:1 Sealed Gear Differential with Heavy-Duty Gears — The sealed gear differential features a 2.6:1 internal gear ratio and heavy-duty sealed construction, protecting internal components from dirt and debris whilst providing robust, reliable power distribution to the rear wheels. The sealed design means less maintenance and more track time.
  • Adjustable V2 Slipper System — The V2 slipper system allows you to fine-tune power delivery characteristics, adjusting slip engagement to match track conditions and driving style. This tuning capability gives drivers the control to dial in handling across different surfaces and weather conditions.
  • Rugged Steel Turnbuckles for Suspension Geometry Adjustment — Steel turnbuckles provide adjustable camber and front toe-in, allowing you to dial in suspension geometry for optimised handling on your favourite track. These robust mechanical adjusters have been proven over decades of RC racing.
  • Fully Adjustable Suspension Geometry — Beyond turnbuckles, the RB10 Retro offers comprehensive suspension geometry adjustment, allowing experienced tuners to optimise roll centre, ride height, camber, toe-in and more. This depth of adjustability is essential for competitive racing performance.
  • Vertical Ball Ends for Roll Centre Tuning (Front and Rear) — Vertical ball ends allow precise roll centre adjustment both front and rear, enabling tuners to balance handling characteristics and adapt to different track conditions. This feature is typically found only on genuinely race-ready RC buggies.
  • Metric Hardware Throughout with Full Ball Bearings — Every fastener on the RB10 Retro uses metric hardware standards, and the kit includes full ball bearing assemblies. Quality ball bearings reduce friction, improve efficiency and deliver smoother, more responsive handling compared to bushings.
  • Complete Kit with Everything Visible — As a full assembly kit, every component is supplied and visible during the build process, allowing you to understand your buggy's construction intimately. This educational aspect makes the RB10 Retro perfect for hobbyists who want to learn as they build.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated RB10 Retro Kit represents a masterclass in RC engineering, combining genuine vintage styling with modern performance standards. At 1/10 scale with a 277.8mm wheelbase (10.94 inches), the RB10 Retro is a genuinely competitive off-road buggy platform. The rear-motor B5 chassis design delivers the handling characteristics that made Team Associated legendary in RC racing, featuring predictable throttle response and confidence-inspiring stability across varied terrain.

Build quality throughout is exceptional. The Retro Blue anodised aluminium tub chassis and matching nose plate provide structural rigidity whilst resisting corrosion from moisture and salt exposure. The exclusive grey moulded plastic components are engineered from durable materials designed to withstand regular impacts and track use. Assembly requires a motor, ESC (Electronic Speed Controller), servo, battery and compatible radio system to complete—these are not included in the kit, allowing you to specify components matching your performance requirements and budget. The 2.6:1 sealed gear differential is geared for off-road performance, balancing speed with usable torque across various surfaces.

Suspension design delivers impressive compliance and control. The 12mm big-bore blue anodised coil-over shock absorbers feature separate compression and rebound damping, allowing independent tuning of bump compliance and rebound characteristics. Paired with fully adjustable geometry including vertical ball ends, camber links and toe-in adjustment, the RB10 Retro provides the tuning depth demanded by experienced competitors. CVA driveshafts at the rear minimise drive-line binding and deliver smoother power delivery, whilst the adjustable V2 slipper system allows you to tune how aggressively power engages the drivetrain. Whether you're running on packed dirt, clay or carpet, the RB10 Retro's comprehensive adjustability ensures optimal handling characteristics.

The authentic retro Viper body style has been proven in competition for decades, offering excellent aerodynamics for a compact 1/10 scale platform. The high-downforce 5.5" retro wing provides genuine aerodynamic benefit without excessive drag, keeping the buggy planted through corners and preventing unwanted weight transfer during hard acceleration. 12mm hex dish wheels wrapped in high-grip off-road tyres provide confident traction and predictable handling, whilst the suspension geometry allows roll centre tuning to optimise weight distribution. Whether you're a seasoned competitive racer or an enthusiast builder, the RB10 Retro Kit delivers the engineering depth and adjustability to extract genuine performance once assembled and properly tuned.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Team Associated RB10 Retro Kit suitable for beginners? — The RB10 Retro Kit is not a ready-to-run vehicle, so it requires full assembly and some mechanical knowledge. If you're new to RC cars UK, this kit is best suited to builders with some assembly experience, or those willing to invest time in learning. However, the reward is a fully customised buggy with deep understanding of its construction. If you prefer something ready to drive immediately, a ready-to-run model would be more appropriate for absolute beginners.
  • What battery should I use with the RB10 Retro Kit? — The RB10 Retro Kit does not include a motor, ESC or battery, so your choice is flexible. Most off-road buggies at this scale use either 2S (7.4V) or 3S (11.1V) LiPo batteries, with 3S providing higher performance. Alternatively, traditional NiMH batteries remain compatible. The Team Associated parts compatibility list recommends Reedy brand batteries, which are excellent quality. Your motor choice will influence optimal battery configuration—this allows you to tailor the kit precisely to your performance requirements and budget.
  • What is the wheelbase and overall size of the RB10 Retro Kit? — The RB10 Retro measures 400mm long (15.75 inches), 248mm wide (9.76 inches) with a wheelbase of 277.8mm (10.94 inches). This is a compact 1/10 scale buggy, making it suitable for smaller racing venues and backyard bashing alike. The weight varies depending on components installed.
  • How does the rear-motor design affect handling? — The rear-motor B5 chassis layout delivers the familiar handling characteristics that made Team Associated legendary in off-road racing. This configuration provides predictable, confidence-inspiring performance with neutral handling balance. The layout is proven in competition, offering responsive steering whilst maintaining stability during acceleration and cornering, particularly valuable when learning the platform.
  • What makes the RB10 Retro different from contemporary RC buggies? — Unlike modern RC buggies with forward-motor layouts, the RB10 Retro authentically recreates vintage off-road racing design using the proven rear-motor B5 platform. This isn't merely aesthetic—the rear-motor layout genuinely delivers different, more neutral handling characteristics compared to contemporary designs. Visually, the retro Viper body, high-downforce 5.5" wing and Retro Blue anodised aluminium chassis create unmistakable period-correct styling that makes the RB10 instantly recognisable at any RC track. If you appreciate classic RC racing heritage and want modern performance in a vintage package, the RB10 Retro delivers exactly that.
  • Is the body included painted and ready to run? — The retro Viper body is included unpainted, allowing you to paint and decorate it exactly as you wish. This gives complete creative freedom to personalise your RB10 Retro with your favourite colour scheme and graphics.
  • What tools do I need to assemble the RB10 Retro Kit? — Assembly requires basic tools including hex drivers (metric), body scissors for body trimming, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, a hobby knife, and potentially a soldering iron for battery connector installation. A precision ruler or callipers proves helpful for suspension geometry setup. Team Associated and Factory Team produce purpose-designed tool sets compatible with the RB10 platform, available separately.
  • Can I upgrade or modify the RB10 Retro Kit after assembly? — Absolutely. The RB10 Retro is built on Team Associated's proven B5 platform, which has decades of upgrade history. Numerous lightweight carbon fibre chassis modifications, upgraded shock bodies, aluminium hubs and other performance upgrades are available from Team Associated and Factory Team. This modularity means your investment in the RB10 Retro Kit can evolve as your skills and performance requirements develop.
  • What is the 2.6:1 gear ratio suitable for? — The 2.6:1 sealed gear differential is specifically geared for off-road performance, balancing usable torque with reasonable top speed. This ratio works well across varied terrain including dirt, clay and carpet tracks. For higher-speed racing on smooth surfaces, alternative gear ratios are available separately, allowing customisation to your chosen racing environment.
  • How long does assembly typically take? — Full assembly of an RC buggy kit typically requires 6-12 hours depending on your experience level, tool availability and attention to detail. Taking time during assembly—ensuring all adjustments are properly set and all fasteners are secure—results in a better-performing, more reliable finished buggy.
