Overview

The RC4WD Bully II MOA RTR Competition Crawler (Z-RTR0027) is a purpose-built, ready-to-run rock crawler designed for serious competitors who demand uncompromising performance. This fully assembled 1/10 scale ready to run RC car arrives in your hands ready to add batteries and hit the rocks, eliminating the lengthy build process whilst delivering competition-grade engineering from day one. Whether you're an established RC enthusiast searching for a high-performance crawler or a dedicated competition driver seeking a platform built to meet U.S.R.C.C.A rules, the Bully II MOA represents the pinnacle of RC crawler design and represents the calibre of equipment that stands out in the UK RC hobby community.

What makes the Bully II MOA fundamentally different from standard RC crawlers is its innovative dual-motor architecture. The Motor on Axle (MOA) design places one Boost 35T rebuildable motor on each axle, paired with the Rocker Dig II system for independent front and rear motor control. This revolutionary approach dramatically lowers the centre of gravity compared to traditional single-motor designs, allowing the chassis to sit flatter on the rocks whilst simultaneously extending runtime and offering precision manoeuvrability that competitors simply cannot match. The MOA layout transforms how you interact with difficult terrain, giving you absolute command over power delivery to each axle independently.

RC4WD has invested years of research, testing and development to create the Bully II MOA, and this investment is evident in every component. The company sets itself apart from competitors through obsessive attention to quality, engineering excellence and real-world performance validation. From the carbon fibre and Delrin chassis to the CNC-machined billet aluminium axles housing hardened steel internal heavy-duty gears, the Bully II MOA is engineered to withstand the punishment of competitive rock crawling whilst delivering consistent, predictable performance week after week.

Key Features

  • Motor on Axle (MOA) Dual Motor Design — Rather than relying on a single motor to power all four wheels through complex gearboxes, the Bully II MOA features independent Boost 35T motors on both the front and rear axles, which dramatically reduces weight centralisation, improves weight distribution and allows each axle to be controlled and powered independently for unprecedented rock-crawling precision and extended runtime.
  • Rocker Dig II Independent Motor Control System — This proprietary RC4WD system allows you to control the front and rear motors completely independently via 3rd and 4th channels on the included XR4 radio, with a 3-position switch dedicated to DIG function, enabling you to adjust power delivery on the fly and optimise traction across constantly changing terrain.
  • CNC-Machined Billet Aluminium Axles — These are not standard axles; they are precision-engineered from solid billet aluminium through CNC machining, offering exceptional strength and durability whilst maintaining the lightest possible weight, and RC4WD's years of development mean you require no expensive aftermarket upgrades out of the box.
  • Hardened Steel Internal Heavy-Duty Gears with XVDs and Clockable C's — The gearsets are manufactured from hardened steel and incorporate cross-pin differentials (XVDs) and clockable C-blocks, providing maximum durability during competition whilst offering extensive adjustability to fine-tune traction and performance to suit your driving style and local terrain conditions.

  • RC4WD Outcry Brushed Speed Controller with Built-in Drag Brake — This brushed ESC includes an integrated drag brake function, allowing you to slow your crawler when descending without damaging driveline components, paired with a separate 6V 5-amp Turbo BEC for reliable, constant power delivery to all electronics.
  • XR4 4-Channel 2.4GHz Radio System — The included RC4WD XR4 radio operates on 2.4GHz frequency for interference-free operation, features 4 full channels with dedicated 3rd and 4th channels for Rocker Dig control, and includes a 3-position switch for DIG function customisation.
  • Boost Rebuildable 35T Crawler Motor — Each of the two motors in the MOA setup is a Boost 35T rebuildable design that delivers substantial low-end torque and high-end speed, providing consistent power delivery across the rev range and the ability to rebuild and service the motor for long-term use.
  • Built to Meet U.S.R.C.C.A Competition Rules — The Bully II MOA is purpose-engineered to comply with United States Rock Crawling Association competition regulations, meaning it is ready to compete at sanctioned events from day one and represents genuine competition-grade equipment.
  • Prebuilt, Ready-to-Run with Minimal Assembly — Whilst some components arrive pre-assembled, you should check all hardware for tightness and consider applying thread-lock to certain fasteners; the model is otherwise ready to accept batteries and operate immediately without requiring construction of major subassemblies.

Technical Performance

The Bully II MOA RTR Competition Crawler represents a significant engineering achievement in rock crawling design. At a scale of 1/10 and weighing just 4.38 pounds (1.99kg), the crawler achieves a remarkable balance between substantial presence and lightweight manoeuvrability. The wheelbase measures 317mm (12.5 inches), width is 254mm (10 inches), and height is 182mm (7.2 inches), with a ground clearance of 92mm (3.6 inches)—dimensions optimised for navigating tight rock formations and obstacle courses. The dual Boost 35T rebuildable brushed motors provide combined power that is regulated through the RC4WD Outcry brushed ESC, which includes a sophisticated drag brake system and is supported by a separate 6V 5-amp Turbo BEC ensuring stable power delivery across all electronics. The final drive ratio of 40.7:1 with a 32P 14-tooth pinion gear provides aggressive gearing suitable for technical rock crawling with maximum torque multiplication. The suspension employs a proven 4-link design both front and rear, utilising internal-spring 90mm aluminium shocks that can be oil-filled for fine-tuning compliance. The CNC-machined billet aluminium axles feature a hex width of 219.5mm and house hardened steel internal gears with cross-pin differentials and clockable C-blocks for extensive adjustability. The 2.2-inch Rocker beadlock wheels measure 25.3mm in width with 15mm back spacing, shod with Bully Advanced X2SS compound competition tyres developed through extensive field testing. The XR4 4-channel 2.4GHz radio system operates on modern interference-free frequency and includes 3rd and 4th channels specifically for independent motor control via the Rocker Dig II system, allowing experienced drivers to manipulate front and rear power delivery independently for maximum terrain negotiation. Battery compatibility typically involves small 2S LiPo packs (7.4 volts) such as the O-G2S1000-30M with Deans or XT60 connectors (note that some units arrive with Tamiya connectors), making this an excellent choice for UK buyers who want compact, powerful lithium polymer power in a genuine ready-to-run package.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the RC4WD Bully II MOA RTR suitable for beginners? — The Bully II MOA is a competition-grade rock crawler designed primarily for experienced RC enthusiasts and dedicated competitors rather than absolute beginners. Whilst it is supplied ready-to-run and requires no major assembly, rock crawling as a discipline requires patience, skill and understanding of terrain negotiation techniques. Beginners should be prepared to invest time in learning how to operate the dual-motor system effectively and understanding how to adjust the extensive tuning options available through the Rocker Dig II system. However, experienced RC operators who are new to crawling will find this to be an excellent platform for learning.
  • What batteries does the RC4WD Bully II MOA RTR Competition Crawler need? — The Bully II MOA works best with small 2S LiPo batteries (7.4 volts) such as the O-G2S1000-30M with 1000-1500mAh capacity, fitted with either Deans or XT60 connectors. Some units arrive with Tamiya connectors on the ESC, though Deans and XT60 are preferred for their superior power delivery characteristics. The small size necessary to fit within the compact chassis dimensions makes 2S LiPo the ideal choice, balancing power output with physical packaging constraints. A quality LiPo charger and proper battery management are essential for safe operation and battery longevity.
  • Does this come with a radio transmitter and receiver? — Yes, the Bully II MOA RTR includes the complete RC4WD XR4 4-channel 2.4GHz radio system ready to use out of the box. However, if you already own a Spektrum radio transmitter such as a DX5, you can fit a compatible Spektrum receiver into the crawler to use your existing transmitter instead, though this requires some basic electronics knowledge and soldering skills.
  • What is the Motor on Axle (MOA) design and why does it matter? — Rather than having a single motor powering all wheels through complex driveline components, the MOA layout places one Boost 35T motor directly on each axle. This approach significantly reduces the weight concentrated in the centre of the chassis, lowering the centre of gravity for improved stability and obstacle-crossing ability. The MOA design also extends runtime since each motor only powers two wheels rather than all four, and it allows independent control of front and rear power through the Rocker Dig II system, enabling you to fine-tune traction and control across technical rock sections. This is why the Bully II MOA performs so differently from conventional designs.
  • Can I use the Rocker Dig II system to control each motor independently? — Yes, the Rocker Dig II system paired with the XR4 radio allows you to control the front and rear motors completely independently via the 3rd and 4th radio channels, with a dedicated 3-position switch for DIG function. This means you can adjust power delivery to each axle in real time as you navigate rocks, allowing you to optimise traction and prevent wheel-spin on either end of the chassis. This level of control is what separates competition-grade crawlers from entry-level models.
  • What makes the Bully II MOA suspension special? — The suspension employs a time-proven 4-link design both front and rear, which provides excellent articulation and maintain chassis geometry across extreme rock formations. The 90mm aluminium shocks with internal springs can be oil-filled for tuning suspension compliance, and the solid titanium suspension links ensure proper drive-line angles and durability. This suspension geometry is the result of years of RC4WD competition team development and testing, providing confidence that your crawler will handle demanding terrain reliably.
  • What does the carbon fibre and Delrin chassis offer compared to plastic or aluminium? — Carbon fibre and Delrin composite construction provides an exceptional balance of strength and weight. Carbon fibre offers superior rigidity compared to plastic whilst being lighter than solid metal, meaning the chassis resists flex whilst maintaining minimal unsprung weight that would otherwise slow responses. The high-clearance chassis design maximises ground clearance for obstacle clearance whilst keeping the overall profile low for improved stability on steep angles.
  • Are spare parts readily available for the Bully II MOA? — Yes, RC4WD maintains a comprehensive spare parts availability programme. Replacement components including chassis sets, axles, suspension components, wheels, tyres, servos, motors and electronics are all available as individual parts, ensuring you can maintain and upgrade your crawler throughout its operational life. Common upgrade hopups include dual spring shocks and waterproof servo alternatives.
  • How does the Twister servo perform in technical rock crawling? — The Twister Metal Gear Digital Servo delivers 153 ounces of torque at 6 volts with full metal gearing, providing exceptional steering authority required for precise rock crawling. The full metal construction ensures durability across countless steering inputs and the digital electronics provide smooth, predictable steering response. This servo is purpose-designed for RC crawler applications and represents excellent value in a ready-to-run package.
  • What is included in the Outcry ESC and Turbo BEC system? — The RC4WD Outcry brushed ESC features a sophisticated drag brake system allowing you to slow descent without damaging driveline components, paired with a separate 6V 5-amp Turbo BEC that ensures stable, constant power delivery to the servo, receiver and Rocker Dig II system regardless of motor load fluctuations. This separation of power systems ensures reliable electronics operation throughout your crawling session.
