Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the RC10 Model 24 Classic Buggy Kit suitable for beginners to RC racing? — This kit requires assembly and is designed for hobbyists with basic RC knowledge and mechanical aptitude. However, it's an excellent learning project for someone progressing from ready-to-run models to kit builds. The comprehensive instruction manual provides step-by-step guidance, and the straightforward design with metric hardware makes assembly manageable for determined beginners. You'll need to source and install electronics separately, which allows you to choose components matching your skill level. For those completely new to RC, starting with a ready-to-run model before tackling a kit is often recommended, but many first-time builders find the RC10 Model 24's manageable size and proven design very rewarding.
  • What battery does the RC10 Model 24 require and how long will it run? — The RC10 Model 24 requires a 2-cell LiPo battery pack (7.4V nominal voltage). Team Associated recommends the Reedy Power 400mAh 60C 7.4V battery (#27610) as the compatible option. Runtime will vary based on driving style and motor choice, but the 400mAh capacity typically provides 10-15 minutes of active driving time depending on throttle usage. The 60C discharge rating ensures the battery can supply sufficient current to the brushless motor without voltage sag. You'll want to charge the battery before each session using a proper LiPo-compatible charger that includes peak detection to prevent overcharging.
  • What makes the RC10 Model 24 different from other 1:24 scale RC buggies? — The RC10 Model 24 is an authentic replica of the legendary 1:10 scale RC10, capturing the exact design DNA and championship-winning heritage of one of radio control racing's most iconic vehicles. Unlike generic 1:24 buggies, every detail—from the gold-anodised aluminium monocoque chassis to the classic white wheels and suspension geometry—reflects the legendary RC10 design. Team Associated's expertise in race-car engineering means the RC10 Model 24 delivers genuine performance with fully adjustable suspension, sealed drivetrain components, and a sophisticated differential setup typically found only in premium RC buggies. The comprehensive parts support ecosystem means you can maintain and upgrade your model indefinitely. For collectors and enthusiasts seeking an authentic piece of RC racing history in miniature, the RC10 Model 24 stands apart as a genuine tribute rather than a generic replica.
  • How do I choose between the different Reedy Sonic motor options for the RC10 Model 24? — The RC10 Model 24 is compatible with Reedy Sonic 1525 brushless motors in five different KV (kilovolt) ratings: 2500kV, 3500kV, 4500kV, 5500kV, and 6800kV. Lower KV ratings (2500kV) provide higher torque and smoother acceleration, ideal for tight courses or beginners prioritising control. Mid-range options (3500-4500kV) balance acceleration and top speed for general driving and mild competition. Higher KV ratings (5500-6800kV) deliver maximum speed and snappy response for experienced drivers on open tracks. Your choice should consider your driving style, the terrain you'll be racing on, and the ESC's current rating compatibility. For most users, a 4500kV motor provides an excellent balance of performance and control.
  • Can I upgrade or modify the RC10 Model 24 with aftermarket parts? — Yes, Team Associated offers full parts support with a comprehensive range of spare and upgrade components. The RC10 Model 24 uses metric hardware throughout, making it compatible with many aftermarket upgrades. You can upgrade individual components like shocks, differentials, bearings, wheels, and tyres to suit your preferences. The sealed drivetrain design and proven suspension geometry provide an excellent foundation for customisation. Many owners upgrade to stiffer springs for more aggressive driving, or lighter wheels for increased speed. The full parts support means you can maintain and evolve your RC10 Model 24 indefinitely, making it a long-term investment in your RC hobby.
  • What radio system will work with the RC10 Model 24? — The RC10 Model 24 requires a two-channel surface frequency radio system (transmitter and receiver). This is the standard for off-road RC buggies and buggies and is available from major RC manufacturers including Spektrum, Futaba, and others. A basic two-channel system provides steering and throttle control, which is all that's necessary for racing a buggy. Make sure any radio system you choose is fully compatible with the servo you select (the Reedy RS0305A comes with standard servo connectors). Most modern surface radio systems use FHSS (frequency hopping spread spectrum) technology for reliable, interference-free operation.
  • What's the difference between this kit and a ready-to-run RC buggy? — The RC10 Model 24 is a kit that requires full assembly by the user, whereas ready-to-run models come pre-assembled and ready to drive out of the box. Kits like the RC10 Model 24 demand that you source and install the electronics (ESC, servo, motor, battery), assemble the chassis, and calibrate all systems. This requires mechanical aptitude, time, and patience, but provides the satisfaction of building your own race car and the flexibility to choose electronics matching your preferences. Kit builds are also typically more cost-effective if you already have some components, and they offer superior learning value about how RC cars work. Ready-to-run models eliminate assembly but offer less customisation and may have less premium component choices.
