Key Features

  • 2860 Motor Size Classification — This standardised motor size designation indicates the physical dimensions and mounting compatibility, ensuring you can integrate this motor into RC aircraft specifically designed for 2860-class brushless motors. The size classification matters because it guarantees proper fit, optimal cooling, and correct thrust-to-weight ratios in your aircraft build.
  • 1850 KV Rating — The KV (Kilo-Volt) rating of 1850 determines how many revolutions per minute the motor spins per volt of battery input, representing a sweet spot for RC jet applications. This specific KV rating has been carefully selected to balance acceleration, top-end speed, and efficiency, meaning you'll achieve strong power delivery without excessive current draw that would drain your LiPo battery prematurely.
  • Brushless Motor Technology — Unlike older brushed motors, this brushless design eliminates carbon brush wear and associated maintenance headaches, delivering consistent performance over thousands of flight hours. Brushless motors run cooler, more efficiently, and produce significantly less electromagnetic interference, which is crucial when flying near other RC aircraft or in competitive environments.
  • High Efficiency Power Delivery — The motor's brushless architecture ensures that more of your battery's energy converts into actual thrust rather than being wasted as heat. This means longer flight times, cooler running temperatures, and better overall flight characteristics throughout your battery's discharge cycle.
  • Precision Engineering — FMS Hobby manufactures this motor to exacting tolerances, ensuring balanced rotor dynamics and smooth operation at high RPM. Poor-quality motors suffer from vibration and cogging, which translate to sluggish handling and fatigue on airframe components; this motor's precision engineering eliminates these issues.
  • Compatible with LiPo Battery Systems — This motor is designed to work seamlessly with modern lithium polymer (LiPo) battery packs, the standard power source for high-performance RC aircraft. LiPo batteries offer superior power delivery compared to older NiMH batteries, enabling the explosive acceleration and sustained power output this motor is engineered to provide.
  • Professional-Grade Reliability — FMS Hobby's reputation in the RC community is built on delivering components that perform consistently, flight after flight. This motor carries that reputation, meaning you can trust it for important flights, competition events, or showcase flights without worrying about mid-flight failure.

Technical Performance

The FMS PREDATOR 2860-KV1850 brushless motor delivers exceptional performance characteristics for demanding RC jet applications. With its 1850 KV rating, this motor reaches approximately 185,000 revolutions per minute when powered by a 100-volt source (a theoretical benchmark), though real-world operation on typical 3S or 4S LiPo batteries will produce proportionally lower RPM with correspondingly higher torque output. The brushless design eliminates commutator wear and maintenance requirements whilst delivering superior efficiency compared to brushed alternatives, meaning your battery energy translates more directly into thrust. The 2860 motor size is specifically engineered for applications requiring moderate displacement and balanced power curves, making it ideal for mid-sized RC jets and high-performance aircraft. The motor's construction utilises premium-grade components throughout, including quality bearings for smooth operation and quality winding that ensures consistent electrical characteristics across the entire RPM range. Heat dissipation is optimised through careful design, allowing the motor to operate continuously at full load without thermal concerns that plague inferior motors. When matched with appropriate LiPo battery configurations and electronic speed controllers (ESCs) rated for the motor's current draw specifications, this motor provides reliable, predictable performance that enables confident flying and consistent aircraft handling characteristics. The motor's versatility means it works excellently in purpose-built kits like the FMS Twin 70mm EDF A-10 Thunderbolt II whilst remaining adaptable for custom RC aircraft projects where builders seek premium brushless power.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between brushless and brushed RC motors? — Brushless motors like the FMS PREDATOR eliminate the carbon brushes found in brushed designs, removing a major maintenance requirement and source of wear. Brushless motors run cooler, operate more efficiently (converting more battery energy into thrust), produce less electromagnetic noise, and deliver consistent performance over thousands of flight hours without performance degradation. For serious RC pilots in the UK, brushless technology represents the modern standard and offers measurably superior performance.
  • What does the 1850 KV rating mean and how does it affect performance? — The KV (Kilo-Volt) rating indicates how many RPM the motor produces per volt of input. With a 1850 KV rating, this motor spins 1850 RPM for every 1 volt applied. When powered by a 3S LiPo battery (11.1 volts), the motor reaches approximately 20,535 RPM under no-load conditions.
