Key Features
- Brushless Motor Design — Brushless motors offer significant advantages over traditional brushed motors, including longer operational lifespan, reduced maintenance requirements, cooler running temperatures, and more efficient power delivery, which translates to better battery runtime and more responsive throttle control on your brushless RC car.
- 4274 Motor Size — The 4274 specification represents a well-established motor size that strikes an ideal balance between power output and weight, making it perfectly suited to 1/8 scale RC applications without compromising handling characteristics or creating excessive wear on drivetrain components.
- 2000KV Rating — The 2000KV specification means the motor will spin approximately 2000 revolutions per minute for every volt supplied by your battery, providing an optimal blend of acceleration and top speed when used with 6S LiPo batteries, the standard power source for modern 1/8 scale brushless RC cars and trucks.
- Direct FTX Compatibility — This is an official FTX component engineered to work seamlessly with FTX DR8 1/8 Desert Racer models in both red and blue variants, as well as the FTX Supaforza GT 1/7th models, ensuring perfect fitment and reliability without modification or adaptation.
- Premium Build Quality — Constructed to the same manufacturing standards as complete ready-to-run FTX models, this motor incorporates quality materials and precision engineering to deliver consistent performance season after season.
- Authorised FTX Component — Purchasing genuine FTX parts ensures compatibility with your existing setup and maintains the integrity of your RC vehicle's performance characteristics and warranty coverage where applicable.
Technical Performance
The FTX DR8 Brushless Motor 4274 KV2000 represents mature brushless motor technology optimised for the unique demands of 1/8 scale desert racing. The 4274 frame size provides an excellent foundation for high-speed applications, whilst the 2000KV rating has been specifically calibrated to work with 6S LiPo battery systems (22.2 volts nominal), which are the industry standard for competitive 1/8 scale RC buggies and trucks. Brushless motors operate without physical brushes and commutators, which means they generate less heat, require no maintenance, and deliver significantly smoother power delivery compared to brushed alternatives. The motor's efficiency directly impacts your RC car's acceleration response and overall runtime, allowing you to extract maximum performance from your battery charge. When properly paired with a brushless ESC rated for the motor's current draw (the FTX DR8 Brushless ESC 150A is the recommended complement), this motor will deliver reliable, repeatable performance across diverse driving conditions, from smooth tarmac to challenging loose desert terrain. The engineering tolerances and quality control standards applied to this motor ensure that performance remains consistent, making it an excellent choice for both replacement and upgrade applications in existing FTX DR8 and FTX Supaforza GT setups.

- LiPo Battery Charger — Required to safely charge your 6S LiPo battery pack
- Motor Mounting Hardware — Depending on your vehicle, you may need mounting brackets or adaptors to secure the motor to your chassis
- Motor Connectors — Ensure your ESC and battery connectors match the motor's terminal type
Frequently Asked Questions
- What cars is the FTX DR8 Brushless Motor 4274 KV2000 compatible with? — This motor is designed specifically for the FTX DR8 1/8 Desert Racer (available in both red and blue variants) and is also compatible with the FTX Supaforza GT 1/7th Brushless Electric models. Direct fitment is guaranteed with these models, though installation in other vehicles may require adaptors or custom mounting solutions.
- What battery does the FTX DR8 Brushless Motor 4274 KV2000 need? — The 2000KV rating indicates this motor is optimised for 6S LiPo battery systems, which provide 22.2 volts nominal output. This voltage matches the KV rating to deliver the motor's designed performance curve. Using significantly higher or lower voltage batteries will alter the motor's RPM and power characteristics.
- Why choose a brushless motor over a brushed motor? — Brushless motors offer multiple advantages including extended lifespan (brushes and commutators wear out on brushed motors), significantly reduced maintenance needs, cooler operating temperatures due to improved efficiency, and more responsive throttle control. For serious RC enthusiasts in the UK and beyond, brushless technology has become the industry standard for competitive and high-performance RC vehicles.
- What ESC should I use with this motor? — The FTX DR8 Brushless ESC 150A is the recommended speed controller for this motor, as it has been engineered specifically to work with the motor's electrical characteristics and power output requirements. Using a controller with insufficient current rating could lead to performance loss or thermal shutdown.
- Is this a genuine FTX component? — Yes, this is an official FTX branded component (model FTX9526) manufactured to the same quality standards as FTX's complete ready-to-run models. Purchasing genuine parts ensures compatibility and performance consistency.
- What is the difference between 2000KV and other KV ratings? — The KV rating directly determines how many RPM the motor will spin per volt of battery voltage supplied. A 2000KV motor will spin faster than a 1700KV motor when connected to the same battery. Higher KV ratings typically provide more top speed but less torque, whilst lower KV ratings deliver more torque but lower maximum RPM. The 2000KV rating on this motor strikes a balance optimised for 1/8 scale racing applications.
