Overview

The Fastrax M0.6 25T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear (FASTM6-25) is a premium drivetrain component engineered for RC enthusiasts who demand precision and reliability in their scale model vehicles. Whether you're building a custom RC car in the UK or upgrading an existing setup, this pinion gear represents the pinnacle of aftermarket performance parts designed to optimise your vehicle's acceleration, speed delivery and overall powertrain efficiency. Fastrax has built a reputation for manufacturing high-quality RC replacement parts and accessories that help racers and hobbyists extract maximum performance from their machines.

This pinion gear is manufactured from 7075 aluminium alloy, one of the strongest and most durable aluminium variants available in the RC hobby. The aerospace-grade material composition ensures that this gear can withstand the extreme forces generated during acceleration, cornering and sustained high-speed running without stripping, cracking or premature wear. For anyone serious about maintaining a competitive RC car or truck setup, quality pinion gears are essential consumables that directly impact performance and longevity of your drivetrain.

The 25-tooth configuration makes this gear suitable for a wide variety of RC applications across different scales and drive systems. Whether you're running a ready to run RC buggy, a scratch-built competition vehicle, or modifying an existing chassis, understanding gear ratios and selecting the correct pinion tooth count is crucial for optimising your vehicle's performance characteristics for your particular racing conditions and terrain.

Key Features

  • 7075 Aluminium Alloy Construction — This is aerospace-grade aluminium that offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, making it significantly more durable than standard aluminium or plastic pinion gears commonly found on entry-level RC vehicles. The superior material composition means your gear will resist stripping, cracking and deformation even under extreme load conditions.
  • 25-Tooth Configuration — The 25T tooth count positions this gear in the mid-range of typical RC applications, providing a balanced approach to acceleration and top speed characteristics. This tooth count is versatile enough to work across multiple RC platforms and chassis types.
  • M0.6 Module Specification — The M0.6 module (metric gear sizing) is a standard specification in the RC hobby that ensures compatibility with equivalent 0.6 module pinions and spur gears used in most modern RC vehicles. This standardisation means you can confidently select complementary drivetrain components.
  • Precision Engineering — Fastrax pinion gears are manufactured to tight tolerances that ensure smooth, quiet meshing with spur gears, reducing noise, vibration and energy losses in your drivetrain. Better gear mesh quality translates directly to improved efficiency and reduced heat generation during operation.
  • Replacement Component — Pinion gears are consumable parts that gradually wear with use; having quality replacements like this Fastrax option available ensures you can maintain your RC vehicle's performance characteristics and keep your drivetrain running at peak efficiency.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax M0.6 25T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear exemplifies the engineering standards expected from a manufacturer focused on delivering professional-grade RC components. The choice of 7075 aluminium is not incidental; this material is used in aerospace applications precisely because it offers superior strength, fatigue resistance and dimensional stability compared to lesser grades of aluminium or alternative materials. In the context of RC car transmission systems, this translates to a gear that will maintain its tooth profile geometry under repeated acceleration cycles, resist stripping when exposed to sudden torque spikes, and deliver consistent performance characteristics throughout its operational lifespan. The M0.6 module specification represents the industry standard for mid-scale RC vehicles, ensuring seamless integration into your existing drivetrain architecture. When paired with an appropriately sized spur gear, the 25-tooth pinion configuration provides balanced performance suitable for diverse driving conditions, from circuit racing to bashing and crawling. The precision manufacturing ensures that tooth flank geometry is optimised for smooth power transfer, minimal backlash and reduced noise generation. For users upgrading their RC car UK systems or building competition-grade vehicles, selecting quality gears like this Fastrax component is a foundational decision that affects acceleration response, top speed capability, motor load characteristics, battery runtime and overall drivetrain longevity. Proper gear selection should always consider your motor's power characteristics, your vehicle's final drive ratio requirements, and the terrain and driving style you typically encounter.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the M0.6 specification mean for my RC car? — M0.6 refers to the metric module of the gear, which is the standardised tooth pitch system used in RC vehicles. This specification ensures that your pinion gear will mesh properly with spur gears that share the same M0.6 module specification. Mixing incompatible gear modules will result in poor mesh quality, excessive noise and premature wear. Always verify that your spur gear matches the M0.6 specification when purchasing.
  • Why is 7075 aluminium better than standard alternatives? — 7075 aluminium is considerably stronger and more fatigue-resistant than 6061 aluminium or plastic materials commonly used in budget RC components. The superior material means your pinion gear will resist stripping, which is particularly important when running high-torque brushless motors or when experiencing sudden acceleration loads. This durability translates to longer component lifespan and more consistent performance.
  • How do I know if a 25-tooth pinion is right for my setup? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics. A lower tooth count (such as 23T or 24T) provides faster acceleration but lower top speed, whilst higher counts (26T, 27T) offer faster top speed but reduced acceleration. The 25T represents a middle-ground configuration suitable for most general-purpose RC cars, buggies and trucks. Consult your specific vehicle's manual or experienced RC communities for recommendations based on your motor, battery voltage and intended driving style.
  • Is this gear compatible with ready to run RC vehicles? — This is a replacement component, so compatibility depends entirely on your specific vehicle model. Most modern RTR and ready to run RC cars from manufacturers like Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi and others use standard M0.6 gears, but you should verify the module specification and tooth count requirements for your particular vehicle before purchasing. Check your vehicle's instruction manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm specifications.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears are consumable parts that experience gradual wear during normal operation. The lifespan depends on your driving style, motor power, maintenance habits and terrain. Regular inspection is recommended; if you notice excessive noise, slipping or visible tooth wear, it's time to replace the gear. Having quality spare gears available ensures you can quickly get back on the track.
  • Does this gear require special installation or tools? — Installation typically requires removing the motor assembly from your vehicle and changing the pinion gear on the motor shaft. This usually requires a small hex wrench or Allen key (the specific size depends on your motor) and potentially a gear puller tool if the existing gear is difficult to remove. Consult your vehicle's manual for detailed installation instructions specific to your setup.
