Key Features

  • Premium 7075 Aluminium Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from high-grade 7075 aluminium alloy, one of the strongest and most durable aluminium variants available. This material choice ensures excellent resistance to wear and deformation under the demanding loads experienced during RC operation, translating to extended component lifespan and consistent performance even under competitive racing conditions.
  • 48-Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch (48DP) standard ensures broad compatibility across numerous RC car platforms and motor configurations commonly used throughout the UK hobby scene. This specification makes the FAST48-41 a reliable upgrade or replacement component for a wide variety of RC vehicles, from casual bashers to competition-grade setups.
  • 41-Tooth Count — The 41-tooth configuration provides the specific gear ratio required for particular setups, allowing builders to fine-tune their drivetrain characteristics and optimise performance for their specific driving style, track conditions, or racing application.
  • Precision Engineering — Fastrax components are recognised for tight tolerances and meticulous manufacturing standards, ensuring smooth engagement with mating gears, minimal backlash, and reliable power transmission without unwanted noise or vibration during operation.
  • Lightweight Design — Despite its exceptional strength, the aluminium construction keeps overall drivetrain weight to a minimum, which is crucial for maintaining optimal handling characteristics, acceleration response, and overall vehicle performance in competitive RC applications.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax FAST48-41 pinion gear represents the pinnacle of RC drivetrain component engineering. Manufactured from 7075 aluminium alloy, this material selection is no arbitrary choice—7075 is specifically chosen for its outstanding strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for high-stress components like pinion gears that must withstand repeated engagement cycles and substantial rotational forces. The 48-pitch specification is a widely adopted industry standard in RC vehicle design, particularly favoured by manufacturers who prioritise compatibility and performance optimisation. The 41-tooth count works in conjunction with spur gears of specific tooth counts to create precise gear ratios that directly influence acceleration, top speed characteristics, and overall drivetrain efficiency. For builders and racers tuning their RC vehicles, pinion gear selection is a critical factor in achieving the desired performance envelope. The quality of engagement between this pinion gear and the spur gear directly affects drivetrain noise levels, mechanical efficiency, and component longevity. Fastrax's commitment to precision manufacturing ensures that each FAST48-41 meets strict quality specifications, delivering the smooth, reliable operation expected from professional-grade RC components. The lightweight aluminium construction contributes to improved vehicle dynamics by reducing unsprung and rotating mass, allowing faster acceleration and more responsive handling characteristics—factors that matter significantly to competitive RC car racers throughout the United Kingdom.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 48-pitch pinion gear and why does the tooth count matter? — The 48-pitch specification refers to the number of teeth per inch of gear diameter, which is a standardised measurement in RC vehicle design. The 41-tooth count on this gear determines the gear ratio when paired with a spur gear—for example, a 41-tooth pinion with an 87-tooth spur gear creates an approximate 2.12:1 ratio. Different tooth counts allow builders to optimise their vehicle's performance characteristics, adjusting the balance between top speed and acceleration to suit their driving style, track conditions, or competition requirements.
  • Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, the FAST48-41 is suitable for RC enthusiasts at all experience levels. However, understanding gear ratios and how pinion selection affects performance characteristics is more advanced knowledge. Beginners should consult the vehicle manual or experienced RC hobbyists to ensure the 41-tooth count is appropriate for their specific vehicle model and driving purposes. Most ready to run RC cars come pre-fitted with suitable pinions, so this component is primarily for upgrades, replacements, or custom builds.
  • What makes 7075 aluminium better than other materials for pinion gears? — 7075 aluminium is an aerospace-grade material offering exceptional strength compared to lower-grade aluminium alloys, whilst remaining significantly lighter than steel. This combination is ideal for RC applications where durability must be balanced against the need to minimise weight that could negatively affect performance. The superior hardness of 7075 aluminium resists wear and deformation better than alternative materials, resulting in longer component lifespan and more reliable performance over extended use.
  • Can I use this pinion with any RC vehicle? — The 48-pitch specification ensures compatibility with many popular RC vehicles, but the specific 41-tooth count must be compatible with your vehicle's spur gear and motor configuration. You should verify compatibility with your vehicle's documentation, check specialist RC forums for your specific model, or contact our experienced team at RC Model Shop to confirm suitability before purchasing. Using incompatible gear combinations can result in poor performance or drivetrain damage.
  • How do I know when to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears should be inspected regularly for signs of wear, including missing or damaged teeth, visible pitting on the tooth surfaces, or grinding noises during operation. If you notice any of these signs, replacement is recommended to prevent damage to mating components and maintain optimal drivetrain efficiency. Regular maintenance and inspection help extend component lifespan and ensure reliable performance.
