Overview

The Fastrax 32DP 20T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is a precision-engineered component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their RC car setups. Whether you're running a crawler, off-road buggy, or competition-grade RC vehicle, this pinion gear represents the gold standard in drivetrain components for the UK RC market. Built from premium 7075 aluminium alloy, this gear delivers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior durability compared to standard steel alternatives, making it the perfect choice for drivers who refuse to compromise on quality.

This 20-tooth pinion gear is engineered to work seamlessly with 32-pitch systems, offering the precise gear mesh and minimal backlash that serious RC competitors and weekend bashers alike depend on for consistent, predictable handling and power delivery. The 3.2mm shaft diameter ensures perfect compatibility with a wide range of brushless motors and drivetrain setups commonly found in UK RC hobby shops and competition venues. Whether you're upgrading your existing RC car or building a new machine from the ground up, the Fastrax 32DP 20T pinion gear provides the foundation for reliable, high-performance operation.

For RC car enthusiasts in the UK looking to upgrade their drivetrain components, this Fastrax pinion gear represents exceptional value and proven performance. The premium 7075 aluminium construction means this gear will handle the demands of aggressive driving, tight racing lines, and competitive use without stripping or wearing prematurely, giving you confidence that your RC investment is protected.

Key Features

  • 32-Pitch Gear System — This pinion gear operates within the popular 32-pitch standard, which is widely used across the RC hobby industry and ensures compatibility with countless spur gears, motor mounts, and drivetrain configurations available to UK RC modellers.
  • 20-Tooth Configuration — The 20-tooth count provides an optimal balance between acceleration and top-end performance, offering flexibility for both crawling applications and higher-speed off-road driving depending on your spur gear selection.
  • Premium 7075 Aluminium Alloy — Constructed from aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium, this pinion gear offers superior hardness and durability compared to standard steel or lower-grade aluminium alternatives, resisting wear and stripping even under extreme racing conditions and aggressive bashings.
  • 3.2mm Shaft Diameter — The precisely machined 3.2mm shaft ensures perfect fitment with the vast majority of modern brushless motors available in the UK RC market, guaranteeing smooth power delivery with minimal runout or wobble.
  • Precision Engineering — Each gear tooth is machined to exacting tolerances, delivering smooth mesh with your spur gear, reduced noise, improved efficiency, and extended component lifespan across your entire drivetrain.
  • Lightweight Design — The aluminium construction keeps rotating mass to a minimum, allowing your motor to accelerate the drivetrain more responsively and improving overall handling characteristics of your RC vehicle.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax 32DP 20T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of drivetrain engineering for UK-based RC car enthusiasts. Manufactured from aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium alloy, this gear delivers exceptional material properties that distinguish it from budget alternatives. The 7075 alloy is renowned throughout the RC industry for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, hardness, and resistance to fatigue — critical characteristics when you're regularly pushing your RC car to its limits on challenging terrain or competitive tracks. Each tooth is precision-machined to exacting specifications, ensuring perfect gear mesh with your spur gear selection. This precision engineering minimises backlash, reduces noise, and maximises power transmission efficiency, translating directly into more responsive handling and better overall performance. The 32-pitch standard is widely adopted across the RC hobby, meaning you'll have excellent flexibility in selecting compatible spur gears to fine-tune your final drive ratio for specific driving conditions or disciplines. Whether you're running a rock crawler over treacherous terrain, a competitive buggy on a tight racing course, or a general-purpose off-road vehicle for weekend bashing, this pinion gear adapts to your needs. The 3.2mm shaft diameter is the industry standard for most modern brushless motors, ensuring straightforward installation and perfect concentricity. The lightweight aluminium construction reduces rotating inertia in your drivetrain, allowing your motor to accelerate the gears and wheels more responsively, improving throttle response and overall vehicle agility. Over extended use, the 7075 aluminium resists the wear that gradually degrades lower-quality gears, maintaining smooth operation and precise mesh geometry long after inferior alternatives would begin slipping or stripping teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this 32DP 20T pinion gear compatible with my RC car? — The Fastrax 32DP 20T pinion gear with 3.2mm shaft is compatible with any RC vehicle using a 32-pitch gear system and a brushless motor with a standard 3.2mm shaft. This includes most modern RC buggies, crawlers, trucks, and off-road vehicles available in the UK market. Check your vehicle's manual or existing pinion gear to confirm the pitch (32DP) and shaft diameter (3.2mm) match before purchasing.
  • What is the advantage of 7075 aluminium over steel pinion gears? — 7075 aluminium offers several advantages over steel pinion gears: it's significantly lighter, reducing rotating mass and improving motor response; it dissipates heat more effectively during prolonged use; it's easier to machine to precision tolerances, resulting in smoother mesh and less backlash; and it resists stripping better than softer metals, though it is more brittle than steel in extreme impacts. For most UK RC enthusiasts, the benefits far outweigh any minor drawbacks.
  • How do I choose the right gear ratio for my RC car? — Gear ratio is determined by the combination of your pinion gear (this 20-tooth unit) and your spur gear. A higher tooth count on the spur gear (relative to the pinion) increases top speed but reduces acceleration, whilst a lower spur tooth count improves acceleration but limits top speed. For crawling and technical terrain, use a lower numerical ratio; for racing and speed-focused driving, use a higher ratio. Experiment with different spur gear options to find the perfect balance for your driving style.
  • What is the difference between 32-pitch and other gear standards? — Pitch refers to the size of the gear teeth. 32-pitch gears have smaller teeth than 48-pitch or 64-pitch systems. 32-pitch is the industry standard for most RC cars, offering a good balance between durability and smooth operation. It's the most widely supported pitch in the UK RC market, meaning you'll find the widest variety of compatible spur gears and components.
  • Will this pinion gear work with any brushless motor? — The Fastrax 32DP 20T pinion gear with 3.2mm shaft will fit any brushless motor with a 3.2mm output shaft, which is the standard across the vast majority of modern RC motors. However, verify your motor's shaft diameter before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
  • How long does a 7075 aluminium pinion gear typically last? — With proper maintenance and reasonable driving conditions, a 7075 aluminium pinion gear from Fastrax typically lasts for many racing seasons or hundreds of bashing sessions before requiring replacement. Regular inspection for tooth wear and proper lubrication of the gear mesh will extend its lifespan significantly. Even with heavy use, these gears prove far more durable than budget alternatives.
