Pinion gears are critical components in any RC car's transmission system, directly affecting acceleration, top speed, and overall power delivery. The 32DP (32 diametral pitch) specification indicates this gear is designed for precision RC applications requiring tight tolerances and smooth engagement with your vehicle's spur gear. By upgrading to a quality pinion gear like this Fastrax option, you can ensure consistent performance, reduce drivetrain wear, and maintain the competitive edge your RC car needs whether you're racing on track or bashing off-road. RC enthusiasts across the UK rely on Fastrax components for their commitment to quality manufacturing and compatibility with popular RC platforms including Traxxas, Tamiya, Team Losi, Team Associated, HPI, Axial Racing, Mugen, and Rival models.
This particular pinion gear features a 3.2mm shaft diameter, making it compatible with a wide range of RC car motors and transmission setups. The 14-tooth configuration provides a specific gear ratio that will influence your vehicle's acceleration characteristics and top speed potential, making this an ideal choice for builders looking to fine-tune their RC car's performance profile for their specific racing discipline or terrain.
Key Features
- High-Grade Aluminium 7075 Alloy Construction — The use of premium aluminium 7075 ensures exceptional durability whilst maintaining a lightweight design that won't add unnecessary mass to your RC car's drivetrain, crucial for maintaining responsive handling and acceleration in competitive RC racing and recreational bashing alike.
- 32DP Precision Specification — This diametral pitch rating indicates the gear is manufactured to exacting standards with precise tooth profiles, ensuring smooth meshing with your spur gear and minimising backlash that could compromise performance and cause premature wear to your RC car's transmission system.
- 3.2mm Shaft Diameter — The standard 3.2mm shaft size provides broad compatibility with numerous RC car models and motor setups, making this pinion gear a versatile upgrade option for your RC vehicle regardless of its specific platform or drivetrain configuration.
- 14-Tooth Configuration — The 14-tooth count establishes a specific gear ratio that directly influences your RC car's power delivery and acceleration characteristics, making this configuration suitable for builders seeking particular performance tuning options for their vehicles.
- Quality Manufacturer Heritage — Fastrax has established itself as a respected name in the RC hobby, manufacturing components specifically designed for the demands of RC enthusiasts across the UK, ensuring compatibility and reliability you can depend on.
- Direct Replacement Component — As a pinion gear designed to replace worn or damaged originals, this Fastrax part ensures you can maintain peak drivetrain performance without requiring complete transmission overhauls, saving you time and money on RC car maintenance.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 32DP 14T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents the intersection of precision engineering and practical RC performance requirements. Manufactured from premium aluminium 7075 alloy, this gear benefits from one of the strongest aluminium formulations available, offering superior resistance to the stresses and impacts that occur during intensive RC car operation. The 32 diametral pitch specification indicates this gear operates within the precision-grade category favoured by competitive RC drivers and serious hobbyists, where tooth profile accuracy directly translates to smoother power delivery and reduced drivetrain noise. The 14-tooth configuration places this gear in the mid-range of tooth counts commonly used in RC transmissions, making it suitable for balanced performance applications rather than extreme low-ratio or high-ratio setups. With its 3.2mm shaft diameter, this pinion gear integrates seamlessly into RC car platforms that have standardised on this shaft size, ensuring proper fit and reliable engagement without modification. The engineering quality reflects Fastrax's understanding of RC car performance requirements, with attention paid to tooth geometry that minimises backlash and wear whilst maintaining the lightweight characteristics essential for responsive RC vehicle handling. Whether installed in a high-speed track racer, a versatile competition buggy, or a rugged off-road crawler, this pinion gear contributes to the overall efficiency and longevity of your RC car's drivetrain system.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — A pinion gear is a small precision gear that meshes with your RC car's spur gear to transfer power from the motor to the wheels. It's essential because it directly affects your vehicle's acceleration, top speed, and overall drivetrain efficiency. By upgrading to a quality pinion gear like this Fastrax 32DP unit, you ensure smooth power delivery, reduce drivetrain wear, and maintain reliable performance whether you're racing competitively or bashing recreationally.
- What does 32DP mean and why does it matter? — DP stands for diametral pitch, which is a measurement of gear tooth fineness. 32DP indicates a precision-grade gear with finely machined teeth designed for smooth meshing and minimal backlash. This specification is particularly valued by RC enthusiasts who demand reliable performance and smooth power delivery from their vehicles, as it reduces noise and wear whilst improving overall drivetrain responsiveness.
- Will this 14-tooth pinion gear fit my RC car? — This pinion gear features a standard 3.2mm shaft diameter, making it compatible with many popular RC car platforms including those from Traxxas, Tamiya, Team Losi, Team Associated, HPI, Axial Racing, and other manufacturers that use this shaft size. However, you should verify your specific RC car model accepts 14-tooth pinions before purchasing, as different vehicles may have different tooth count requirements depending on their transmission design.
- What's the difference between different tooth counts like 13T, 14T, and 15T? — The tooth count directly influences your RC car's gear ratio. A 14T pinion (as featured here) provides a mid-range ratio offering balanced acceleration and top speed. A lower tooth count like 13T would increase your gear ratio for faster acceleration but lower top speed, whilst a higher count like 15T reduces acceleration but increases top speed. Your choice depends on your specific track layout, terrain, and performance preferences for your RC car.
- Why is aluminium 7075 used for this pinion gear? — Aluminium 7075 is one of the strongest aluminium alloys available, offering exceptional durability and impact resistance whilst remaining lightweight compared to steel alternatives. This makes it ideal for RC car components that must withstand the intense stresses of high-speed driving, rapid acceleration, and the occasional impact whilst contributing minimally to your vehicle's unsprung weight, which is critical for responsive handling.
- Can I use this pinion gear as a direct replacement for my worn gear? — Yes, the Fastrax 32DP 14T pinion gear is designed as a direct replacement component for RC cars using 3.2mm shaft pinion gears. If your original pinion gear is damaged, stripped, or simply worn from extensive use, this Fastrax component will restore drivetrain performance and reliability without requiring transmission modifications or adjustments to your RC vehicle.
- Is this suitable for beginners in the RC hobby? — Whilst pinion gears are fundamental RC components that all enthusiasts eventually work with, this product is primarily a replacement or upgrade part rather than a complete RC system. Beginners should start with a ready-to-run RC car or kit vehicle, then consider upgrading components like this pinion gear as they develop their mechanical skills and understanding of how drivetrain gearing influences performance.
- What other maintenance should I perform alongside upgrading my pinion gear? — When replacing your pinion gear, inspect your spur gear for wear and damage, as the two gears work together constantly. Check your shaft for damage or bending, ensure your bearings are in good condition, and verify proper mesh between pinion and spur gears. Regular maintenance of these drivetrain components ensures your RC car performs reliably and helps you get maximum value from your upgrades.
