Technical Performance

The CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED SENS COMP represents a sophisticated fusion of electrical engineering and thermal management principles optimised for the unique demands of competitive 1/10 and 1/12 scale RC racing. At the core sits a brushless motor architecture delivering an impressive 9,350 RPM per volt (KV rating) when optimised for the manufacturer's specifications, though the sensored variant presents performance characteristics that prioritise smooth, controlled delivery over raw peak figures. The 7.5-turn winding reduces peak RPM compared to lower-turn alternatives, trading some top-end speed for enhanced mid-range torque and improved throttle linearity—a characteristic highly valued by professional racers who prioritise consistency and controllability over raw power. The motor's construction utilises a 2-pole rotor paired with a 3-slot stator featuring 0.2mm steel laminations, a configuration that maximises magnetic coupling efficiency whilst minimising energy losses as heat. With a nominal resistance of 0.01 ohm, electrical losses are minimised, allowing more of your battery's energy to be converted into mechanical motion rather than dissipated as heat in the motor windings. The sensored brushless design integrates hall-effect sensors into the rotor assembly, providing the ESC with precise rotor position data thousands of times per second. This feedback enables the electronic speed controller to commutate the stator windings with perfect timing, resulting in smooth power delivery throughout the RPM range—a critical advantage when navigating technical track sections at varying speeds. The adjustable timing feature allows tuning of the advance angle, with increased advance generating higher RPM and speed at the cost of higher current draw, whilst reduced timing lowers peak speed but improves efficiency and reduces thermal stress. Operating voltage ranges from 1S to 2S LiPo chemistry, typical for competitive 1/10 and 1/12 scale racing vehicles, with sensored operation optimising performance across the battery's discharge curve as voltage gradually decreases during a race. Peak power output reaches 365 watts, with maximum sustained current of 89 amps—figures that demand a high-quality ESC rated for at least 80-100 amps continuous capacity. The compact 35.8mm diameter and 52mm length package the motor's prodigious power into a form factor that fits standard 540-size motor mounts without requiring chassis modifications. Thermally, the steel laminations and efficient winding design promote heat dissipation, critical when running consecutive heats or extended practice sessions. The 3.17mm shaft interfaces with standard 540-size pinions and clutches, a universally-recognised standard throughout the RC racing community, ensuring you can source replacement gears, slipper clutches and other drivetrain components from virtually any RC specialist retailer in the UK without compatibility concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED 7.5T suitable for brushless RC racing beginners? — This is a competition-grade Modified class motor engineered for experienced racers who understand motor tuning, ESC programming, and gearing optimisation. Beginners new to brushless RC cars should start with lower-turn (higher-KV) motors designed for sport driving rather than competitive racing. However, if you're an intermediate driver stepping up to competitive racing, this motor represents an excellent platform for learning professional-level tuning techniques.
  • What battery specifications does this motor require? — The CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED operates with 1S or 2S lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries, standard for 1/10 and 1/12 scale RC racing. With maximum sustained current of 89 amps, your battery must be rated for at least 100A continuous discharge capacity. A typical setup might use a 2S 7.4V 4000-5000mAh LiPo battery with 100+ amp burst capacity; always check your ESC's specifications to ensure compatibility.
  • How does the sensored brushless design improve performance compared to sensorless motors? — Sensored brushless motors use internal hall-effect sensors to provide the ESC with continuous rotor position feedback, enabling the ESC to time power delivery with extreme precision. This results in smoother acceleration with virtually no cogging at startup, more predictable throttle response, and optimal performance across a wider voltage range as your battery discharges during racing. Sensorless motors rely on back-EMF voltage measurement to estimate rotor position, which works well at high RPM but can feel jerky at low speeds. For competitive racing where consistency is paramount, sensored designs are the clear choice.
  • What ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) should I pair with this motor? — You need a sensored brushless ESC rated for minimum 80-100 amps continuous capacity. Leading options include the Hobbywing EZRUN MAX10 series, Spektrum Firma brushless ESC units, Orion VT2 Pro systems, or equivalent high-performance ESCs from reputable manufacturers. Ensure the ESC is explicitly rated for sensored brushless motors, as sensorless-only ESCs cannot properly utilise the motor's sensor data and will function as sensorless units instead.
  • Is the CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED legal for racing in major UK and international competitions? — Yes. The 7.5-turn specification places this motor in the Modified class, approved for racing in ROAR (Racing Organisation for RC Racing), BRCA (British Radio Control Association), EFRA (European Federation of Radio Operated Model Sports), and IFMAR (International Federation of Model Auto Racing) sanctioned events. Before entering any specific race, verify the motor rules for that particular event, as some smaller regional races may have alternative classifications.
  • What makes the 7.5-turn Modified class different from Stock or Touring classes? — Modified class motors typically feature 5-8 turn windings (compared to 12-17 turns in Touring class), resulting in higher KV ratings and greater peak power output. The CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED 7.5T operates at 9,350 RPM per volt (before sensored optimisation), significantly higher than stock class motors. This makes the motor more powerful but also more demanding of driver skill, ESC sophistication, and mechanical setup precision. Competitive racing regulations specify Modified class motors to maintain a balance between raw speed and driver controllability.
  • Can I use this motor in different 1/10 or 1/12 scale vehicles? — The CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED can be used in any 1/10 or 1/12 scale RC vehicle with a standard 540-size motor mounting pattern, including touring cars, pan cars, 2WD buggies, 4WD buggies, and other racing chassis. The motor's performance characteristics are optimised for racing applications; whilst it will mechanically fit touring or bashing vehicles, competitive racers are the intended audience.
  • What is the difference between the CORALLY VULCAN II PRO MODIFIED and other brushless motors in the Vulcan range? — The CORALLY VULCAN II Pro Modified Sensored 7.5T (C-61154) is specifically the Pro-Modified sensored variant with 7.5 turns. The Vulcan II range includes variants with different turn counts and specifications; lower-turn versions (like 5.5T or 6.5T) deliver higher RPM and speed but less mid-range torque, whilst higher-turn versions emphasise controllability and efficiency. The sensored version included here offers improved low-speed smoothness compared to sensorless alternatives. Always verify the exact model number to ensure you're selecting the configuration that matches your racing application.
  • What maintenance does a brushless sensored motor require? — Brushless motors require minimal maintenance compared to brushed alternatives. Keep the motor free from mud, water, and debris; after running in dusty conditions, use compressed air to blow out any dirt. The rotor bearings should spin freely by hand when the motor is not powered; if resistance develops, the rotor may need bearing replacement (a simple job with basic tools). Sensored motors should never be submerged or exposed to water, as moisture can damage the internal sensor electronics. Store the motor in a cool, dry location and always remove the battery before extended storage.
