Overview

The Team Associated RC8B3.2 FT Universals 92mm (AS81469) are premium optional driveline components designed specifically for the RC8B3 range of off-road buggies. Whether you're a competitive racer, weekend basher, or serious RC enthusiast in the UK looking to fine-tune your RC car's handling characteristics, these Factory Team universals offer a sophisticated alternative to standard CVA joints. They represent the kind of precision engineering that serious RC hobbyists expect from Associated, one of the most respected manufacturers in the electric RC buggy market. These universals are engineered to provide a noticeably softer suspension feel, improved handling on rough terrain, and reduced mechanical bind compared to the stock 94mm CVA joints that come standard on RC8B3 buggies.

Adding a set of these 92mm universals to your RC8B3 series buggy tuning box opens up new possibilities for chassis setup and performance customisation. Available for the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, and RC8B3.2e models, these universals work on both the front and rear end when paired with a 15mm rear outdrive and 17mm front outdrive. Whether you're looking to improve steering response at the front end or achieve the most balanced setup for bumpy tracks by running universals front and rear, this product gives you the flexibility to dial in your buggy's handling to match your driving style and track conditions. For anyone serious about RC car performance in the UK market, quality driveline components like these are essential upgrades that can make a real difference in lap times and overall driving experience.

What sets these 92mm universals apart is their thoughtful engineering and the flexibility they provide. Rather than being locked into a single driveline setup, you can experiment with running universals on the front for increased steering feel from added weight transfer, or use them front and rear for the most balanced handling on technical, bumpy terrain. The universal joint design inherently has less mechanical bind than a CVA joint, which translates to a softer, more compliant suspension response that many drivers prefer, especially on rough tracks where maintaining traction and smooth handling is critical. With minimal maintenance required to keep them performing at the highest level, these universals represent a practical and effective upgrade for any serious RC8B3 buggy owner.

Key Features

  • 92mm Factory Team Universals — These precision-engineered universal joints offer reduced mechanical bind compared to the standard CVA joints, resulting in a noticeably softer suspension feel that improves control and consistency when driving on rough terrain.
  • Softer Suspension Response — The universal joint design provides less mechanical bind than CVA joints, delivering a more compliant and responsive suspension setup that translates to better weight transfer and improved traction on technical tracks.
  • Improved Rough Terrain Handling — The softer suspension characteristics promote better handling on bumpy tracks and uneven surfaces, allowing your RC8B3 buggy to maintain better contact with the ground and absorb impacts more smoothly.
  • Front and Rear Compatibility — These universals work on both the front and rear end of your RC8B3 buggy when you're running a 15mm rear outdrive and 17mm front outdrive, giving you maximum flexibility in chassis setup.
  • Replaces Original 90.5mm and 93.5mm Universals — These 92mm universals are designed as direct replacements for the original RC8B3 90.5mm and 93.5mm universals, offering improved performance over the stock setup.
  • Low Maintenance Design — Universal joints require minimal maintenance compared to some other driveline options, allowing you to spend more time driving and less time servicing your RC car.
  • Compatible with Multiple RC8B3 Versions — These universals work with the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, and RC8B3.2e, making them a versatile upgrade option for RC8B3 owners.
  • Configurable Setup Options — Run universals on the front end for more steering feel from increased weight transfer, or use them front and rear for the most balanced handling on bumpy tracks.

Technical Performance

The RC8B3.2 FT Universals represent Team Associated's commitment to precision engineering and performance optimisation for serious RC buggy enthusiasts. At 92mm in length, these universals sit between the original 90.5mm and 93.5mm options, offering a carefully calibrated compromise that provides consistent performance across a wider range of track conditions. The universal joint design is fundamentally different from a CVA (constant velocity axle) joint in terms of how it handles power transmission and suspension movement. While CVA joints can create what's known as mechanical bind—a stiffening effect that restricts suspension movement—universal joints allow for smoother, more linear suspension action with less resistance. This results in a notably softer suspension feel compared to the stock 94mm CVAs, which is particularly valuable on technical, rough terrain where maintaining consistent traction is critical. The engineering behind these universals ensures that they perform at the highest level with minimal maintenance, meaning you won't need to spend hours servicing them between driving sessions. The two universals included in each package can be configured in various ways depending on your specific track conditions and driving preferences, allowing for fine-tuning that serious competitors value highly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between these 92mm universals and the standard CVA joints on my RC8B3? — The main difference is mechanical bind. Universal joints have significantly less mechanical bind than CVA joints, which means they allow the suspension to move more freely and smoothly. This results in a softer suspension feel and better handling on rough terrain. Many competitive RC drivers prefer universals for their improved suspension response, particularly on technical tracks where maintaining consistent traction is essential. The 92mm size sits perfectly between the original 90.5mm and 93.5mm options, offering balanced performance.
  • Can I run these universals on both the front and rear of my RC8B3 buggy? — Yes, absolutely. These 92mm universals are designed to work on both the front and rear end of the RC8B3, RC8B3.1, and RC8B3.2 buggies when you're running a 15mm rear outdrive and 17mm front outdrive. Many drivers prefer running universals front and rear for the most balanced setup on bumpy tracks, though you can also experiment with running them only on the front for increased steering feel from added weight transfer.
  • Do these universals require more maintenance than CVA joints? — No. In fact, universals require minimal maintenance to keep performing at the highest level. This makes them an attractive option for busy RC enthusiasts who want to spend more time driving and less time maintaining their equipment. Regular light cleaning and occasional lubrication is typically all that's needed.
  • Which RC8B3 models are these universals compatible with? — These 92mm universals are compatible with the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, and RC8B3.2e models, making them a versatile upgrade for virtually any version of the RC8B3 buggy. They replace the original 90.5mm and 93.5mm universals that came with these models.
  • What additional parts do I need to install these universals? — You will need two AS91565 8x16x5 flanged bearings. During installation, you'll need to remove the kit 15x21x4 bearings from the inner location on the hub. These flanged bearings are specifically required to work properly with the 92mm universal configuration.
  • Will these universals improve my lap times on a rough race track? — Many competitive drivers report improved handling and consistency on rough terrain when running universals, particularly because the reduced mechanical bind allows for better suspension compliance and weight transfer. Whether they improve your lap times will depend on your specific track conditions and driving style, but the softer suspension feel and improved rough terrain handling make them a popular choice among serious RC racers in the UK.
