Overview

The Team Associated Apex 2 Shock Shafts (AS31874) are essential replacement components for the Apex 2 platform, one of the most popular RC car platforms available to hobbyists across the UK. Whether you're running a bashful weekend session or serious competition RC car, your shock absorbers are critical to maintaining consistent suspension performance and handling characteristics. These shock shafts are precision-engineered components that sit inside your shock absorbers, where they play a vital role in guiding the piston and seals to support smooth, predictable suspension movement when correctly assembled.

If you're an RC enthusiast who has noticed your suspension feeling inconsistent or your shocks performing differently than when your RC model was new, worn or damaged shock shafts could be the culprit. Over time, through regular use, impacts and general wear, shock shafts can become bent or marked, which directly affects how your dampers respond to bumps and terrain changes. For RC car UK hobbyists looking to maintain peak performance or restore their Apex 2 to factory specifications, these genuine Associated replacement shafts are exactly what you need. Available at competitive prices from RC Model Shop, these components represent a cost-effective way to keep your suspension working as intended without having to replace entire shock units.

Maintaining your RC car's suspension is one of the most important aspects of ownership, whether you're a weekend basher enjoying the open spaces or a competition racer chasing lap times. The Apex 2 platform has earned its reputation for reliability and performance, and keeping genuine spare parts on hand ensures you're always ready for your next session. By replacing bent or marked shafts, you can help restore consistent shock action and get back to enjoying smooth, predictable handling that lets you focus on the fun of driving rather than worrying about your suspension setup.

Key Features

  • Genuine Associated Components — These are official Team Associated parts designed specifically for the Apex 2 platform, ensuring perfect fitment and compatibility with your model without any guesswork or compromise on quality.
  • Precision-Engineered Piston Guides — The shock shafts are machined to exact specifications to guide the piston and seals, maintaining the tight tolerances necessary for smooth suspension movement and consistent damping response across all terrain conditions.
  • Direct Replacement Solution — If your existing shock shafts have become bent or marked through normal use, replacing them with these genuine parts can restore your suspension to its original performance characteristics without requiring a complete shock overhaul.
  • Performance Restoration — Worn or damaged shock shafts compromise damper feel and consistency; replacing them helps restore the predictable, linear suspension response that makes your Apex 2 handle as designed, whether on smooth tracks or rough terrain.
  • Essential Maintenance Component — These shafts are a crucial part of proper shock servicing and maintenance, making them a must-have spare for any serious Apex 2 owner who wants to keep their RC car in peak condition.
  • Compatible with Apex 2 Platform — Designed specifically for Team Associated's Apex 2 platform, ensuring complete compatibility with your existing setup and drivetrain configuration.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated Apex 2 Shock Shafts represent the level of engineering precision you'd expect from a company with Team Associated's heritage in RC racing. These components are manufactured to exacting tolerances to ensure they perfectly guide the shock piston and maintain the delicate seal integrity that's essential for consistent damping performance. When shock shafts become bent or marked through use—whether from hard impacts during bashing, track contact, or simply the cumulative wear of hundreds of shock cycles—the suspension response becomes unpredictable and inconsistent. The shaft is responsible for keeping the piston centred and the seals properly seated, so any deviation from perfectly straight geometry will cause friction, inconsistent damping and poor handling feedback. By replacing damaged shafts with these genuine Associated components, you restore the tight tolerances and smooth operation that allows your suspension to respond correctly to every bump and impact. These shafts work in conjunction with your shock fluid, springs and damper valves to create the complete suspension system, so maintaining them at factory specifications is essential for keeping your Apex 2 performing as designed whether you're enjoying casual RC car UK bashing or pushing for competition results.

What You Need to Complete

  • Shock fluid as specified in your Apex 2 manual
  • Knowledge of correct assembly order and fastener specifications (refer to your model manual)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if my Apex 2 shock shafts need replacing? — If you notice your suspension feels inconsistent, dampers aren't responding evenly, or your shocks appear to have marks, bends or visible damage on the shaft, it's time to replace them. Bent or marked shafts directly affect damper feel and suspension performance, so replacing them can help restore your RC car to its original handling characteristics.
  • Will replacing my shock shafts improve my Apex 2's handling? — Yes, if your existing shafts are bent or marked, replacement shafts will help restore consistent shock action and predictable suspension response. However, these are direct replacements rather than performance upgrades, so they'll return your suspension to factory specifications rather than enhance it beyond that point.
  • Are these shafts difficult to install? — Shock shaft replacement requires disassembling your shock absorbers, so you'll need to refer to your Apex 2 model manual for detailed instructions on assembly order, fasteners, and shock fluid specifications. If you're uncomfortable with this process, consider asking experienced RC enthusiasts at your local club or contacting RC Model Shop for guidance.
  • What's included when I buy these shock shafts? — You receive the shock shafts themselves; you'll need to have your existing shock bodies, springs, damper cartridges and shock fluid ready to complete the assembly process following your manual's specifications.
  • Can I use these on other Team Associated models? — These shafts are designed specifically for the Apex 2 platform. While Team Associated makes many models, it's important to check your model manual to confirm compatibility before purchasing, as different platforms use different shock dimensions and components.
  • How often should I replace my shock shafts? — Shock shafts should last a very long time with normal use; replacement is typically only necessary when they become bent or marked. Regular maintenance, checking for damage, and avoiding impacts to the shock bodies will help extend their lifespan.
