Technical Performance
The Volantex Spitfire MkII represents a careful balance between authentic historic styling and modern RC engineering. Powered by a 2808 brushless outrunner motor controlled by an Easy-Plug 10A brushless electronic speed controller, the aircraft delivers smooth, responsive throttle control and excellent climbing performance. The 500mm wingspan provides an ideal flying envelope for park flying environments whilst remaining large enough to be stable in light wind. The FLEEX foam construction creates an airframe that is both durable enough to withstand landing impacts and light enough to achieve the agile flight characteristics expected of a warbird design. The aircraft weighs approximately 270 grams without battery, positioning it as a true lightweight park flyer capable of sustained hovering flight and extended cruising at modest throttle settings. The inclusion of XPILOT gyro stabilisation technology transforms the flying experience by automatically countering unwanted pitch and roll movements, allowing pilots to focus on directional control and engine management. The brushless power system provides clean, whisper-quiet operation compared to traditional nitro or combustion-powered alternatives, making the Spitfire MkII suitable for flying in populated park environments without excessive noise complaints. Flight times typically extend to 15-20 minutes per battery charge, offering sufficient duration for multiple aerobatic passes and general recreational flying sessions. The aircraft is capable of executing the full spectrum of aerobatic manoeuvres including loops, rolls, and inverted flight, making it equally suitable for gentle scenic flights and dynamic freestyle flying.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Volantex Spitfire MkII suitable for beginner RC pilots? — Yes, the Spitfire MkII is specifically designed to accommodate pilots new to RC aeroplanes. The XPILOT stabilisation system with Full Assist mode automatically stabilises pitch and roll, making it forgiving of pilot inputs and preventing the aircraft from entering uncontrolled manoeuvres. The one-key take-off feature eliminates the most anxiety-inducing aspect of launching an RC aeroplane, whilst one-key aerobatic modes allow beginners to perform impressive manoeuvres without requiring the precise manual stick inputs that aerobatics typically demand. However, the aircraft can also be flown in full manual mode for experienced pilots who want complete control authority.
- What battery does the Volantex Spitfire MkII need? — The aircraft is optimised for 2S LiPo batteries in the 500-700mAh capacity range at 7.4V nominal voltage. This battery specification provides the ideal balance of power output, flight duration and weight for the 270-gram aircraft. Smaller capacity batteries (500mAh) will provide flights of approximately 12-15 minutes, whilst larger batteries (700mAh) may extend flight time closer to 18-20 minutes, though at the cost of slightly reduced climb performance. You will need a dedicated 2S LiPo charger with balance charging capability, charged at the recommended 0.5A rate or higher.
- How long does assembly take and what tools are required? — Complete assembly typically requires less than 30 minutes and utilises only basic hand tools including a small Phillips screwdriver and adjustable spanner for propeller installation. The aircraft arrives with the fuselage, motor, ESC and receiver pre-installed, and primary assembly involves connecting the servo linkages, attaching the wing to the fuselage, fitting the propeller and spinner, and installing the battery connector. Detailed assembly instructions are provided with the aircraft, and most of the mechanical connections are straightforward push-fit or bolt-together joints that don't require expertise beyond basic model assembly skills.
- What radio control system do I need? — Any 2.4GHz RC transmitter with a minimum of four channels will control the Spitfire MkII. The included receiver supports standard 2.4GHz protocols. The aircraft uses four control channels for throttle, elevator, aileron and rudder functions. Additional channels on your transmitter (for flap control or trim adjustment) will remain unused but don't affect operation. Popular transmitter options include Spektrum, Futaba, FlySky and various other manufacturer systems all operating on the 2.4GHz frequency.
- Can the Spitfire MkII perform aerobatic manoeuvres? — Absolutely. The aircraft is fully aerobatic capable, and the 2808 brushless motor provides sufficient power to perform aggressive manoeuvres including loops, rolls, inverted flight and dynamic turns. The XPILOT stabilisation system includes a dedicated aerobatic mode that can execute pre-programmed manoeuvre sequences with a single button press, allowing even beginner pilots to perform impressive flying displays. Experienced pilots can disable stabilisation and perform manual aerobatics, and the robust FLEEX foam construction is forgiving of the occasional hard landing that advanced aerobatic flying sometimes entails.
- How does the XPILOT stabilisation system work? — The integrated gyro module continuously monitors aircraft pitch and roll attitude using sensitive gyroscopic sensors. In Full Assist mode, the system automatically trims control surfaces to maintain level flight and automatically recovers from unwanted pitch or roll deviations, making it nearly impossible to stall or enter a spin. Soft Assist mode provides gentler stabilisation that assists but doesn't override pilot inputs. Manual mode disables stabilisation for experienced pilots who want complete control authority. The system remains active during throttle changes and requires no special configuration beyond selecting your desired mode via transmitter switch.
- What is the flying weight and how does this affect performance? — The Spitfire MkII weighs approximately 270 grams without battery, making it a lightweight park flyer that remains responsive and agile even at moderate throttle settings. This light weight enables smooth, stable hovering flight at minimal throttle and permits graceful slow-speed passes at park flying speeds. The lightweight construction also means the aircraft accelerates quickly to speed when throttle is advanced and achieves strong climb performance with the 2808 brushless motor. The 270-gram weight also contributes to good glide characteristics, allowing extended idle-throttle descents that conserve battery power.
- Is the Spitfire MkII waterproof or water-resistant? — The aircraft is not waterproof and should not be intentionally flown in rain or landed on water. However, the FLEEX foam construction is water-resistant and will not absorb significant moisture from accidental water contact, and the electronics are relatively splash-resistant during normal park flying. Extended exposure to wet conditions should be avoided, and the aircraft should be dried thoroughly if it becomes wet during operation. Storage should be in a dry location to prevent corrosion of metal components.
- How does this Spitfire MkII compare to other 500mm brushless RC aeroplanes? — The Spitfire MkII combines authentic Spitfire styling with beginner-friendly stabilisation technology and one-key features that set it apart from basic trainer aircraft. Unlike simple foam park flyers, the Spitfire MkII features three independent servo-controlled flight surfaces and full 4-channel control, enabling complete aerobatic capability. The XPILOT gyro system and one-key functions provide intelligent assistance that other comparable aircraft typically lack, and the detailed scale detailing and clear canopy make it more visually appealing than most trainer-focused designs. The brushless power system and Easy-Plug ESC represent a commitment to quality components that ensure reliable long-term operation.
- What is the recommended flying environment and skill level? — The Spitfire MkII is recommended for outdoor flying in parks, open fields or airfields with good wind protection. A minimum age of 14 years is recommended, though younger pilots with adult supervision can certainly operate the aircraft successfully. The experience level is listed as beginner, reflecting the stabilisation assistance and one-key features that make the aircraft forgiving and confidence-inspiring for new pilots, though it remains engaging and capable for intermediate and advanced pilots who seek manual flying challenges.
