Overview
The Volantex P-51D Mustang V2 Blue is a high-performance ready to fly RC aeroplane that combines classic warbird aesthetics with cutting-edge flight stabilisation technology. This is an exceptional choice for anyone looking to purchase a ready to run RC plane in the UK, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced pilot seeking an agile, aerobatic performer. The aircraft arrives fully assembled and includes all essential components — engine, electronic speed controller, servos, battery, charger and 2.4GHz transmitter — meaning you can take to the skies within just two minutes of opening the box. At only 60 grams flying weight, this compact 400mm wingspan model is lightweight enough to be flown safely indoors and outdoors, yet packed with performance that belies its diminutive size.
What truly sets the Volantex Mustang apart is the integrated Xpilot stabiliser system, a six-axis gyroscope that provides intelligent flight stabilisation even in windy conditions. This makes it one of the best beginner RC aeroplanes available today, as the gyro system automatically corrects for unwanted pitch and roll, allowing novice pilots to focus on learning fundamental flying skills rather than fighting the aircraft. The durable EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) composite construction means this aeroplane can handle crashes and hard landings that would destroy traditional foam or balsa models, making it genuinely forgiving for those still developing their piloting technique.
The four-channel control system includes aileron control for banking and turning, elevator for pitch control, rudder for directional authority, and throttle for speed management. The one-key aerobatic function is particularly impressive — simply press a button and pull the stick to execute automatic flips and rolls, allowing even rookie pilots to perform aerobatic manoeuvres that would normally require months of practice. With a control range of approximately 200 metres and flight endurance of up to 15 minutes per battery charge, this ready to run RC aeroplane offers genuine recreational flying capability without the complexity or expense of larger models.
Key Features
- Xpilot Six-Axis Gyroscope Stabilisation System — The integrated gyro constantly monitors aircraft attitude and automatically applies corrective inputs to maintain stable flight, which is absolutely crucial for beginners learning to fly RC aeroplanes. This self-stabilisation function works in all flight conditions, including windy environments, meaning you can fly with confidence even when weather conditions are less than ideal.
- One-Key Aerobatic Mode — A remarkable feature that automates aerobatic manoeuvres including flips and rolls, allowing any pilot to perform impressive aerial stunts by simply activating the function and pulling the control stick. This transforms what would normally be an advanced skill into an accessible feature that everyone can enjoy, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced flyer.
- Three-Level Flight Assistance System — Beginner mode provides full gyro stabilisation assistance, intermediate mode offers partial assistance to help you develop skills, and expert mode disables assistance entirely for manual control. This progressive training system allows you to gradually build confidence and competence, learning at your own pace with appropriate levels of electronic assistance.
- Durable EPP Composite Construction — The airframe is manufactured from Expanded Polypropylene, a flexible and impact-resistant material that maintains structural integrity through numerous crashes and hard landings. This exceptional durability means your investment is protected, and repairs are straightforward and inexpensive when damage does occur, making this an excellent beginner-friendly ready to run RC aeroplane.
- True Ready-To-Fly Package — Everything required for immediate flight is included in the box: the fully assembled aircraft, a charged battery, USB charging cable, 2.4GHz transmitter with receiver, and all necessary servos and motor components. You do not need to purchase additional electronics, build anything, or source batteries — simply charge and fly.
- Compact 400mm Wingspan Design — The modest 400mm wingspan (approximately 16 inches) combined with the ultra-lightweight 60-gram flying weight makes this aeroplane suitable for both indoor and outdoor flight environments. Indoor flying requires calm conditions and space, but outdoor flying is where this model truly excels, offering extended range and freedom of movement.
- Efficient 10mm Coreless Motor — The integrated brushed motor is optimised for low power consumption and long flight times, delivering responsive throttle control without excessive current draw. This motor design contributes directly to the impressive 15-minute flight endurance and ensures consistent power delivery throughout the charge cycle.
- Propeller Saver System — A safety feature that protects the motor and gearbox from damage during hard landings or crashes by allowing the propeller to slip when excessive resistance is encountered, preventing catastrophic mechanical damage.
Technical Performance
The Volantex P-51D Mustang V2 represents a sophisticated fusion of aeronautical design and modern flight control electronics. The airframe measures 317mm in length with a 400mm wingspan, creating an exceptionally compact profile that's easy to transport and suitable for flying in smaller outdoor spaces. Construction throughout uses durable EPP composite material, providing excellent impact resistance and recovery characteristics that typical foam or balsa designs simply cannot match. The aircraft's 60-gram flying weight is achieved through careful weight optimisation and material selection, resulting in slow flight speeds that are forgiving for beginners whilst still enabling sport flying and aerobatic performance in the hands of experienced pilots.
At the heart of the system sits a 10mm coreless brushed motor, a proven design that delivers responsive power delivery with minimal inertia. The motor connects to an integrated electronic speed controller that manages power and braking functions, eliminating the need for separate ESC components and reducing overall system weight. The motor drives a 5.12-inch propeller through a geared drivetrain, a combination that produces thrust characteristics optimised for the aircraft's weight and wing loading. Power comes from a 3.7-volt 360mAh lithium-polymer battery (the manufacturer specifications indicate 3.7V/360mAh capacity), which provides approximately 15 minutes of continuous flight time — a respectable endurance for an aircraft of this class. The battery charges via USB cable, a convenient feature that allows charging from computers, USB power supplies, or battery chargers with USB outputs.
Control inputs are managed through a 2.4GHz four-channel radio system with integrated receiver, operating on the internationally recognised 2.4GHz frequency band that avoids interference issues. The four channels are allocated to aileron (banking control), elevator (pitch control), rudder (directional control), and throttle (engine speed). Two 2-gram servos provide the necessary actuation force whilst maintaining weight efficiency. The six-axis gyroscope stabilisation system monitors pitch, roll and yaw movements across multiple axes simultaneously, calculating corrections 100+ times per second to maintain aircraft attitude. Three programmable assistance levels allow the gyro to provide full, partial or no stabilisation depending on the selected flight mode. Control range extends to approximately 200 metres in open space with clear line of sight, though actual range depends on terrain and environmental factors.
For those purchasing ready to run RC aeroplanes in the UK, understanding build quality is essential. This model requires zero assembly — unbox it, charge the battery via USB, insert four AA batteries into the transmitter, and fly. The transmitter requires four AA batteries (not included) to provide portable power, allowing several hours of flying with spare battery sets. The fully assembled construction means there are no glued joints to fail, no servo connections to check, and no electronic configuration required. This reliability is particularly valuable for beginners who might inadvertently cause electrical damage through incorrect assembly or for anyone who simply wants to start flying immediately without technical preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Volantex P-51D Mustang V2 suitable for complete beginners? — Absolutely yes. This is specifically designed as a beginner-friendly ready to run RC aeroplane. The six-axis Xpilot gyroscope stabilisation system automatically corrects for pilot input errors and wind disturbances, whilst the three-level flight assistance system allows you to start with full stabilisation and gradually progress towards manual control. The durable EPP construction forgives crashes and hard landings that would destroy other aeroplanes. If you've never flown an RC aeroplane before, this model includes every feature and protection you need to succeed.
- What is the flight time and how long does the battery take to charge? — The included 3.7-volt 360mAh battery provides approximately 15 minutes of continuous flight per charge. Charging time via USB depends on your power supply; most USB chargers will fully charge the battery within 60 to 90 minutes. For extended flying sessions, purchasing additional spare batteries (typically priced around £15-25) allows you to charge whilst flying with another battery.
- Can I fly this indoors? — Technically possible but not recommended. The 400mm wingspan allows operation in large indoor spaces like aircraft hangars or sports halls, but the aeroplane flies best in moderate outdoor conditions. Outdoor flying provides the most enjoyable experience with extended range and freedom of movement. Indoor flying requires perfectly calm air and very careful control.
- What does the one-key aerobatic function do? — This remarkable feature allows the aeroplane to automatically execute flips and rolls when activated. Simply press the aerobatic button on the transmitter and pull the stick in the direction you want to roll or flip — the onboard gyroscope and flight control computer handle all the complex inputs needed to complete the manoeuvre safely. This allows any pilot to perform impressive aerial stunts that would normally require months of practice to learn.
- How does the Xpilot stabilisation system work? — The six-axis gyroscope continuously monitors the aeroplane's attitude (pitch, roll and yaw) across multiple sensing axes. If the aeroplane begins to drift from level flight, the gyro automatically applies corrective servo inputs to restore stability. Three assistance levels allow you to choose: Beginner (full stabilisation assistance), Intermediate (partial assistance that allows you to learn whilst maintaining safety), and Expert (manual control with stabilisation disabled).
- What makes this better than other beginner RC aeroplanes? — The combination of gyroscope stabilisation, one-key aerobatics, three-level assistance system, durable EPP construction, true ready-to-fly design, and exceptional value for money makes this particularly compelling. Many comparable aeroplanes lack gyroscopic stabilisation, making them significantly more difficult for beginners. Others require partial assembly or additional electronics purchases. The Volantex delivers a complete, sophisticated flying platform without these complications.
- Is the transmitter waterproof? — The 2.4GHz transmitter is not waterproof and should be protected from rain and splash. The aeroplane's EPP airframe tolerates moisture well, but electronics should be kept dry. Always store the transmitter in a dry location and avoid flying in rain.
- What battery type does this use and can I use different batteries? — The included battery is a 3.7-volt lithium-polymer cell with 360mAh capacity, which is a single-cell (1S) LiPo configuration. This specific battery type must be used — do not substitute with NiMH batteries or other chemistries, as the integrated charging circuit is specifically calibrated for lithium chemistry. You can purchase spare 3.7V LiPo batteries compatible with the same connector.
- What is the control range? — Approximately 200 metres in open space with clear line of sight to the transmitter. Actual range varies depending on terrain, obstacles, and environmental electromagnetic interference. Never fly beyond visual line of sight, regardless of theoretical range.
- What age is this suitable for? — Manufacturer specifications indicate this is suitable for ages 14 and above. Younger children require adult supervision and may benefit from additional instruction before flying independently.
