Overview
The Volantex P40 Warhawk is a stunning 400mm ready-to-fly RC aircraft that brings one of World War II's most iconic fighters to life. This expertly designed mini warbird captures the legendary P-40 Warhawk in meticulous detail, complete with the instantly recognisable shark mouth cowl finishing that made the original aircraft famous across the Pacific Theatre. Whether you're an experienced RC pilot looking to expand your collection or a newcomer discovering the joy of RC model flying, the P40 Warhawk offers an accessible yet engaging flying experience that rewards skill development and aerial exploration.
As a ready-to-run RC aircraft, the P40 Warhawk arrives almost fully assembled and ready to fly straight from the box with minimal preparation. This makes it an ideal choice for UK RC enthusiasts seeking an out-of-the-box solution without the complexity of traditional model building. The aircraft is specifically engineered for park flyers of all abilities, making it equally suited to beginners discovering the world of RC flight and experienced pilots who appreciate the responsive handling and acrobatic capabilities this warbird provides.
What truly sets this ready-to-fly RC model apart is its integration of advanced flight stabilisation technology combined with genuine aerobatic capability. The Volantex P40 Warhawk demonstrates that modern RC aircraft design doesn't require compromises between ease of flying and performance—you get both in one beautifully crafted package.
Key Features
- XPilot 6-Axis Stabilisation Gyro — The integrated gyro system continuously monitors the aircraft's orientation across all six axes, making the P40 significantly more stable and forgiving to fly compared to aircraft without this technology. This feature is particularly valuable for developing pilot skills, as it actively counteracts unwanted movements and helps prevent crashes caused by overcontrolling. The gyro system maintains level flight automatically when you centre the control sticks, making it perfect for casual flying in parks and open spaces.
- 3-Level Flight Control Assistant — The P40 features an intelligent flight control system with three selectable assistance levels, allowing you to adjust how much the aircraft helps you fly. You can reduce assistance as your skills improve, gradually transitioning from fully assisted beginner mode to more challenging manual flight modes. This progressive learning system means the aircraft grows with your pilot experience rather than becoming too simple once you've mastered the basics.
- One Key Aerobatic Feature — Despite its stabilisation systems designed to help beginners, the P40 Warhawk delivers genuine aerobatic capability through a dedicated one-key aerobatic function. Simply press the aerobatic button on your transmitter and pull the control stick to perform rolls, loops and other acrobatic manoeuvres with ease. This feature transforms the aircraft from a stable park flyer into an agile aerobatic performer at the touch of a button, demonstrating the sophistication of its flight control architecture.
- One Key U-Turn Function — The dedicated one-key U-turn feature allows instant 180-degree turns by pressing a single button, which proves invaluable when you lose orientation or need to quickly recover from an awkward flying position. This safety feature prevents many common crashes and makes the aircraft more forgiving during learning flights.
- Propeller Saver System — The propeller saver system automatically disconnects the propeller from the motor during impacts, absorbing collision energy and protecting both the propeller and the delicate gearbox from damage. This feature significantly reduces repair costs and extends the aircraft's operational lifespan by protecting critical components during inevitable crashes and hard landings during the learning process.
- Powerful Gearbox and Coreless Motor — The aircraft employs a robust gearbox paired with a coreless motor design that delivers impressive power-to-weight ratio and rapid acceleration. The coreless motor technology minimises inertia, enabling the quick response times necessary for both stable cruising flight and dynamic aerobatic manoeuvres, whilst the gearbox provides the torque multiplication needed for sustained thrust output.
- 2.4GHz 4-Channel Radio Control System — The modern 2.4GHz radio protocol provides reliable, interference-free communication between your transmitter and the aircraft. The 4-channel system offers control over throttle, aileron (roll), elevator (pitch) and rudder (yaw), giving you full authority over all primary flight axes. The 2.4GHz frequency standard is recognised across the UK RC community and ensures compatibility with modern RC infrastructure at flying clubs and venues.
- Compact 400mm Wingspan — The 400mm wingspan positions the P40 perfectly for park flying, offering outstanding manoeuvrability and quick response to control inputs without requiring massive open spaces. The compact size makes it easy to transport to flying locations, fits conveniently in car boots and control bags, and allows flights in relatively confined spaces compared to larger RC aircraft.
- Ultra-Lightweight Construction at 50g — Weighing just 50 grams, the P40 Warhawk achieves remarkable efficiency and responsiveness. The light weight means lower wing loading, which translates to slower, more controllable flight speeds ideal for developing fundamental piloting skills. The lightweight construction also means gentler crashes with less risk of component damage, making it forgiving during the inevitable learning curve.
- EPP Construction Material — The aircraft uses EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam throughout its structure, providing exceptional durability and crash resistance. EPP foam absorbs impact energy brilliantly, bounces back to shape after minor impacts, and can be easily repaired using foam-safe adhesives when repairs do become necessary. This material choice makes the P40 Warhawk one of the most durable ready-to-run RC aircraft available in the UK market.
Technical Performance
The Volantex P40 Warhawk delivers impressive performance despite its diminutive size and lightweight construction. Powered by a coreless brushed motor driving an efficient propeller through a reliable gearbox, the aircraft achieves excellent power delivery with rapid acceleration and sustained climbing performance. The brushed motor technology is proven, reliable and cost-effective to replace if ever needed, with readily available spare components in the UK RC market. The 360mAh LiPo battery provides sufficient energy for extended flight sessions of 8-12 minutes depending on flying style, offering excellent value for the flight time delivered. The aircraft's EPP foam construction combined with its lightweight 50-gram weight enables true park-friendly flight characteristics—low wing loading means you can fly slowly and controllably in confined spaces, yet the powerful motor provides enough thrust for exciting aerobatic performance when desired. The XPilot 6-axis gyro system maintains stable flight through precise moment-to-moment corrections, whilst the three-level flight assistance system intelligently reduces your workload when needed. Servos weighing just 1.3 grams provide rapid, accurate control surface movement without adding significant weight or inducing control lag. The aircraft's dimensions of 400mm wingspan and 317mm length make it genuinely portable—easily fitting into a control bag or boot space—whilst remaining large enough to fly visibly at realistic distances. Build quality throughout is excellent, with all components securely assembled and balanced from the factory. The aircraft's design draws from proven mini warbird platform engineering, incorporating lessons learned from countless flights across the global RC community.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Volantex P40 Warhawk suitable for complete beginners? — Absolutely. The aircraft is specifically designed as a ready-to-run model for park flyers of all abilities, including complete beginners. The XPilot 6-axis gyro system and three-level flight control assistant work together to make the aircraft extremely forgiving and stable. The one-key U-turn feature and propeller saver system further reduce crash severity, making it an ideal first RC aircraft for learning fundamental flying skills without expensive repair bills.
- What battery does the P40 Warhawk use and how long does it fly? — The aircraft comes with a 360mAh LiPo battery that provides typical flight times of 8-12 minutes depending on your flying style. More aggressive aerobatic flying consumes battery charge faster than gentle cruising flight. We recommend purchasing additional 360mAh LiPo batteries so you can fly multiple battery packs in succession, significantly extending your flying session duration.
- Do I need to assemble this ready-to-run RC aircraft? — The P40 Warhawk arrives almost completely assembled and tested. You'll need to charge the included battery before your first flight and potentially balance the aircraft, but no building or soldering is required. The aircraft is ready for flight within hours of unboxing, making it ideal for those who want to enjoy flying immediately rather than spending weeks on model construction.
- What makes the P40 Warhawk different from other ready-to-run RC aircraft? — This aircraft uniquely combines advanced stabilisation technology with genuine aerobatic capability in a compact, durable package. The XPilot gyro system offers more intelligent flight assistance than basic gyros, the EPP construction is more crash-resistant than traditional balsa or plastic designs, and the distinctive P-40 Warhawk profile with shark mouth cowl makes it visually striking at the flying field. The one-key aerobatic and U-turn functions are sophisticated features usually found only on more expensive RC aircraft.
- Can I perform aerobatics with this aircraft? — Yes, the P40 Warhawk delivers genuine aerobatic performance through its one-key aerobatic function and responsive control response. You can perform rolls, loops and other manoeuvres once you've developed basic flying competency. The aircraft transitions from beginner-friendly stable flyer to agile aerobatic performer depending on which flight control assistant level you select and whether you activate the aerobatic function.
