Overview
The Volantex Spitfire 4CH 400mm is a modern take on one of aviation's most iconic aircraft. This ready-to-run RC plane brings the legendary RAF Spitfire fighter to life in a compact, beginner-friendly format that's perfect for park flyers and newcomers to the hobby. Whether you're exploring RC aircraft for the first time or looking for a reliable trainer plane, the Spitfire delivers stable flight, impressive manoeuvrability and genuine flying enjoyment without the complexity of larger models. This is an ideal ready to run RC aeroplane for UK hobbyists who want authentic warbird styling combined with modern flight stability technology.
What sets the Spitfire apart from other beginner RC planes is its combination of authentic warbird heritage and cutting-edge flight assistance. The aircraft features the advanced Xpilot 6-axis gyro stabilisation system, which automatically maintains level flight and dramatically reduces the learning curve for newcomers. With a powerful gearbox-equipped coreless motor and efficient brushed drivetrain, this plane is stable enough for absolute beginners yet agile enough to perform aerobatic manoeuvres on demand. The EPP (expanded polypropylene) construction ensures durability, with a dedicated propeller saver system protecting the motor during hard landings.
At just 50 grams flying weight with a 400mm wingspan, the Spitfire is genuinely portable. You can take it to the park, beach or any open space for flying sessions that deliver up to 20 minutes of flight time per charge. The 2.4GHz 4-channel radio system offers a flying range of up to 656 feet (approximately 200 metres), making it suitable for most UK parks and fields whilst maintaining excellent anti-interference capability. The three-level flight control assistant lets you progress from full beginner mode with complete gyro assistance, through intermediate mode with partial assistance, all the way to expert manual control as your skills develop.
Key Features
- Xpilot 6-Axis Gyro Stabilisation System — The integrated gyroscope continuously monitors the aircraft's attitude and automatically corrects any unintended rolls or tilts, keeping the plane stable and level with minimal pilot input. This feature is absolutely crucial for beginners, as it prevents the plane from diving or spinning out of control, allowing you to focus on learning basic steering rather than fighting the aircraft.
- Three-Level Flight Control Assistant — Beginner mode provides full gyro assistance for maximum stability, intermediate mode reduces the assistance as your confidence grows, and expert mode disables the gyro entirely for complete manual control. This graduated learning system ensures you're never overwhelmed and can progress at your own pace without needing multiple aircraft.
- One-Key Aerobatic Mode — Press a single button and pull the control stick to perform loops, rolls and other aerobatic manoeuvres automatically. This feature transforms the learning experience by letting beginner pilots attempt advanced flying techniques safely, knowing the aircraft will recover after each manoeuvre.
- One-Key U-Turn Function — If you lose orientation or the plane drifts away, activate the automatic U-turn feature to bring the aircraft back towards you without requiring manual stick inputs. This safety feature is invaluable for beginners who might panic if the plane flies far away.
- Powerful Gearbox-Equipped Motor System — The 10mm coreless motor is paired with an efficient gearbox that provides increased thrust and power output whilst maximising battery efficiency. This engineering approach allows extended flight times of up to 20 minutes per battery charge, giving you significantly more flying time compared to direct-drive motor systems.
- Durable EPP Construction — The airframe is built from expanded polypropylene, a flexible foam-like material that absorbs impacts without cracking or shattering. This means the Spitfire can handle rough landings, crashes into grass and even gentle collisions with obstacles, making it far more forgiving than rigid foam or balsa alternatives.
- Integrated Propeller Saver System — A mechanical safety device protects the motor and gearbox from damage during hard landings by allowing the propeller to slip rather than transferring impact forces to the internal components. This extends the aircraft's lifespan and reduces repair costs.
- Fully Assembled Ready-to-Fly Package — The Spitfire arrives completely assembled and flight-ready, requiring zero construction time. You only need to install four AA batteries in the transmitter and charge the included 3.7V 400mAh lithium battery before your first flight, achieving takeoff within one minute of opening the box.
- 2.4GHz 4-Channel Radio System — The 2.4GHz frequency band provides excellent range (up to 656 feet) and outstanding anti-interference capability, meaning you won't experience signal loss from other RC equipment or WiFi networks. Four channels give you independent control of throttle, pitch, roll and rudder for precise aircraft control.
- 1.3 Gram Servo — The lightweight servo is precisely calibrated for the Spitfire's control surfaces, providing quick, accurate response to your inputs whilst consuming minimal power from the battery. The ultra-light design contributes to the aircraft's excellent flight characteristics.
- Portable, Compact Design — With a 400mm wingspan and 317mm fuselage length, the Spitfire fits easily into a backpack, car boot or even a large coat pocket. This portability means you can take your RC plane with you whenever you venture outdoors, turning any trip to a park into a flying opportunity.
Technical Performance
The Volantex Spitfire represents an excellent balance of performance and simplicity. Powered by a 10mm coreless brushed motor combined with an integrated speed controller and efficient gearbox transmission, the aircraft delivers smooth, controllable acceleration with impressive duration thanks to the 3.7V 400mAh LiPo battery. The 50-gram all-up weight ensures minimal inertia, making the Spitfire responsive to control inputs yet stable enough that the Xpilot gyro can effectively stabilise the aircraft. The servo-driven control surfaces (aileron and pitch elevator) use a lightweight 1.3-gram servo mechanism, and the entire airframe is constructed from flexible EPP foam that safely absorbs impacts. The USB-based charging system for the flight battery is convenient and safe, whilst the 2.4GHz radio system operates at 4 channels with automatic frequency hopping for interference-free operation even in crowded RF environments. Flight times of up to 20 minutes are achievable in calm conditions, making this one of the most efficient small RC aircraft available in the UK market.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Volantex Spitfire suitable for complete beginners with no RC flying experience? — Absolutely yes. The Xpilot 6-axis gyro stabilisation system is specifically designed for beginners, automatically correcting unwanted aircraft movements and preventing spins or dives. The three-level flight control assistant lets you start with maximum stability and gradually reduce the assistance as your skills improve. This aircraft teaches proper flying technique without overwhelming you, making it genuinely beginner-friendly compared to unstable trainers requiring constant correction.
- What is the flying time per battery charge, and how long does it take to recharge? — The manufacturer specifies up to 20 minutes of flight time per charge of the 3.7V 400mAh battery, though actual duration varies with flying style and weather conditions. Aggressive acrobatic flying consumes more power, whilst gentle, level flying extends duration. The USB charging cable allows recharging from any USB power source (computer, phone charger, power bank), though exact charging time isn't specified in the available documentation — typically 60-90 minutes is standard for this battery capacity.
- What radio frequency and range does the Spitfire use? — The aircraft uses the 2.4GHz frequency band with four-channel control, providing a flying range of up to 656 feet (approximately 200 metres). This 2.4GHz system automatically hops between frequencies to avoid interference, making it reliable even at crowded flying fields or near WiFi networks. The range is more than adequate for most UK parks and outdoor spaces.
- What battery does the aircraft need, and is it included? — The Spitfire uses a 3.7V 400mAh lithium polymer battery, which is included in the box ready to use. You only need four AA batteries to power the radio transmitter, which are not supplied. Standard alkaline batteries work, though rechargeable NiMH batteries are more economical for frequent flying.
- Can the Spitfire perform aerobatic manoeuvres? — Yes. The one-key aerobatic feature allows the aircraft to execute loops, rolls and other manoeuvres automatically — simply press the aerobatic button and pull the control stick. This lets even beginners experience advanced flying techniques safely. The powerful motor and responsive control surfaces also make manual aerobatics possible once you've developed sufficient pilot skills.
- What materials is the airframe made from, and how durable is it? — The entire airframe is constructed from EPP (expanded polypropylene), a lightweight foam material that flexes and absorbs impacts rather than cracking. This design philosophy makes the Spitfire remarkably durable for a 50-gram aircraft — it withstands crashes into grass, hard landings and collisions with obstacles far better than rigid foam or balsa alternatives. The propeller saver system further protects the motor during impact.
- How long does assembly take, and what tools are required? — No assembly is required. The Spitfire arrives completely assembled and flight-ready. You only need to install transmitter batteries and charge the flight battery before flying, which takes approximately five minutes or less. This truly out-of-the-box flying capability makes it perfect for impatient beginners wanting immediate results.
- What is the difference between this Spitfire model and other warbird RC planes? — The Volantex Spitfire combines authentic RAF Spitfire styling with modern flight stability technology. Compared to traditional trainer planes, it features superior performance and aerobatic capability. Unlike larger warbird models, the 400mm Spitfire is genuinely portable and easy to fly in small parks rather than requiring dedicated flying fields. The integrated Xpilot gyro is absent from cheaper trainers, making this aircraft significantly more beginner-friendly.
- Is the Volantex Spitfire waterproof or weather-resistant? — The documentation does not specify waterproof or weather-resistant ratings. We recommend avoiding rain, snow and wet grass to prevent water damage to the electronics. However, the brushed motor, lightweight servo and integrated speed controller are designed for outdoor use and won't be damaged by typical park flying conditions.
