Key Features
- Xpilot 6-Axis Gyro Stabilisation System — The integrated gyroscope continuously monitors the aircraft's orientation and automatically corrects flight path deviations, making the plane far more stable and easier to control, especially in windy conditions or when performing manoeuvres. This technology is invaluable for beginners learning to fly, as it dramatically reduces the likelihood of sudden uncontrolled movements or crashes.
- Three-Level Flight Control Assistant — This progressive control system offers three distinct flying modes: Beginner (Full Assist) which provides maximum stabilisation and nearly automatic flight characteristics, Intermediate (Part Assist) which reduces assistance as your skills improve, and Manual Control (Expert) for complete stick authority once you're confident. This graduated approach means you can learn step by step rather than facing a steep learning curve, and grow into more challenging flying as your abilities develop.
- One-Key Aerobatic Function — Simply press a dedicated button and manipulate the control stick to execute impressive acrobatic manoeuvres including rolls, loops and inverted flight without requiring complex stick inputs or years of practice. This feature puts exciting aerobatic flying within reach of beginners and intermediate pilots, transforming what might otherwise be intimidating into accessible fun.
- One-Key U-Turn — A convenient automated feature that allows you to instantly reverse the aircraft's direction of flight with a single button press, useful for quick recoveries, rapid repositioning or when you need to bring the plane back towards you in a hurry without complex manual inputs.
- Powerful Gearbox and Coreless Brushed Motor — The combination of a geared motor system and coreless motor design delivers strong, responsive power delivery with excellent efficiency, ensuring the aircraft accelerates smoothly, climbs reliably and maintains stable flight even when performing manoeuvres. The brushed motor technology is proven, reliable and requires minimal maintenance, making it ideal for recreational flying.
- Propeller Saver System — This protective mechanism allows the propeller to slip or separate during hard impacts rather than transferring all the crash energy directly to the motor and gearbox, significantly reducing damage and extending the life of the aircraft's drive system, which represents a major cost saving over the lifetime of the model.
- 2.4GHz Four-Channel Radio Control — Modern 2.4GHz frequency-hopping technology provides reliable, interference-free control with excellent range and minimal lag, allowing you to fly confidently knowing your commands are reaching the aircraft instantly and accurately. The four-channel system provides independent control of throttle, ailerons (roll), elevator (pitch) and rudder (yaw), giving you complete three-dimensional control authority.
- Extended Flying Range — With a control range of up to 200 metres, you have the freedom to fly this aircraft across most UK parks and fields without losing signal, giving you plenty of space to explore different flight patterns, practise manoeuvres and really enjoy the flying experience.
- Lightweight EPP Foam Construction — The expanded polypropylene (EPP) foam airframe is incredibly durable, lightweight and forgiving of minor crashes and rough landings. EPP absorbs impact energy extremely well, meaning the aircraft can bounce off obstacles and even ground contact without suffering structural damage, making it an excellent choice for beginners who are still developing their landing technique.
- Compact 400mm Wingspan — The 400mm (approximately 16-inch) wingspan makes this aircraft highly portable, easy to transport to your flying field, and perfectly suited to smaller parks whilst still providing enough wing area for stable, efficient flight. The compact size is also less intimidating for first-time RC pilots.
Technical Performance
The Volantex Spitfire achieves an impressive balance between stability and performance through intelligent engineering and component selection. The aircraft's 400mm wingspan generates sufficient lift for stable, predictable flight characteristics whilst the lightweight 50-gram all-up weight ensures the brushed coreless motor has plenty of power reserve for acceleration, climbing and aerobatic manoeuvres. The 1.3-gram servo provides crisp, responsive control inputs with adequate torque to move the control surfaces decisively, ensuring your commands translate smoothly into precise aircraft movements. Powered by a 360mAh lithium polymer battery providing approximately 1.3 watt-hours, the aircraft delivers up to 10 minutes of continuous flying time per charge—sufficient for several satisfying flights during a typical flying session. The integrated Xpilot 6-axis gyroscope constantly monitors pitch, roll and yaw, making micro-corrections at a frequency imperceptible to the pilot, resulting in rock-solid stability even in light to moderate wind conditions. The brushed motor technology, whilst requiring occasional maintenance (simple brushes and occasional commutator cleaning), offers excellent efficiency and responsiveness, making it ideal for recreational flying where maximum runtime and smooth power delivery matter more than ultimate speed. The EPP foam airframe, with its 317mm length, contributes to the aircraft's durability and forgiving flight characteristics, bouncing back from impacts that would cause significant damage to foam-core or wooden structures. Overall, this is an aircraft engineered specifically for beginner and intermediate pilots who value stability, reliability and ease of use over raw performance specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Volantex Spitfire suitable for complete beginners? — Yes, absolutely. The three-level flight control assistant system is specifically designed to ease beginners into RC flying, starting with full stabilisation assistance that makes the aircraft almost fly itself, then allowing you to gradually reduce assistance as your skills develop. The Xpilot gyro system continuously corrects for pilot error and wind effects, making control far more intuitive than traditional unstabilised aircraft. Many UK RC clubs recommend this aircraft specifically to newcomers.
- What battery does the Spitfire need and how long does charging take? — The aircraft is powered by a 360mAh lithium polymer battery, which is included in the ready to run package along with a compatible charger. Charging time typically ranges from 40 to 60 minutes depending on charger specifications. The battery provides approximately 10 minutes of continuous flying time, which equates to roughly 3-4 practice flights before requiring a recharge.
- How durable is the EPP foam airframe? — EPP foam is exceptionally forgiving of crashes and hard impacts. The material absorbs energy through controlled deformation rather than fracturing like rigid materials, meaning the Spitfire can bounce off ground contact, trees and obstacles without sustaining structural damage. This durability makes it an excellent choice for beginners whose landing technique is still developing. Minor dents and dings are cosmetic only and do not affect flight performance.
- Can I fly the Spitfire in wind? — The integrated Xpilot gyro stabilisation system helps maintain stable flight even in light to moderate wind conditions by automatically correcting for wind-induced drift. However, very strong wind (above 15 mph) may exceed the control authority of the small servos, so calm to light wind conditions are preferable for best results, particularly whilst learning. Most UK parks offer suitable conditions on typical flying days.
- What is the difference between this Spitfire model and other Volantex aircraft? — The Spitfire 400mm with Xpilot emphasises authentic warbird styling combined with forgiving flight characteristics ideal for beginners. Volantex also manufactures larger aircraft with brushless motors for higher performance, and dedicated sport or aerobatic models. The 400mm Spitfire is specifically optimised for smaller flying spaces and ease of use rather than maximum speed or advanced manoeuvring capability.
- What is the control range and will I lose signal in parks? — The 2.4GHz radio system provides a control range of up to 200 metres, which covers the vast majority of UK parks and open fields. Provided you maintain reasonable line-of-sight visibility to the aircraft, signal loss is extremely unlikely in normal flying situations.
- How much assembly is required? — The Spitfire is supplied ready to run, meaning all critical components are pre-installed and pre-calibrated at the factory. You simply charge the battery, bind the transmitter (a simple one-time procedure), and you're ready to fly. No building, soldering or technical knowledge is required.
- Can I perform acrobatics with this aircraft? — Yes. The one-key acrobatic function allows you to execute rolls, loops and other manoeuvres by simply pressing a button and moving the control stick. In manual control mode (Expert level), experienced pilots have full aerobatic capability, though the 50-gram aircraft mass and brushed motor mean performance is recreational rather than competition-grade.
