The aircraft's proven design has earned respect throughout the RC flying community, and its reputation for reliable performance makes it an investment that will provide years of enjoyable flights.

For UK-based RC hobbyists, the Volantex Ranger 1600mm represents outstanding value. The lightweight yet durable construction means lower battery requirements compared to heavier aircraft, translating to longer flight times and reduced operating costs. The intuitive assembly process—requiring less than thirty minutes—means you can be ready for your first flight quickly, making this an ideal choice whether you're a weekend casual flyer or someone preparing for competitive FPV activities.

Key Features

  • 1600mm Wingspan — The generous wingspan provides excellent lift and stability, allowing the aircraft to maintain control even at lower speeds, which is particularly important for beginners learning to handle RC aircraft or for pilots carrying FPV camera equipment and other payloads.
  • Lightweight EPO Wing Construction — The durable EPO (expanded polypropylene) material used throughout the wing structure offers the perfect combination of lightness and strength, reducing overall weight for improved efficiency whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed to handle the stresses of powered flight and FPV operations.
  • Plug-in and Click Structure Assembly — The clever modular design means wings and fuselage components connect with minimal tools required, and this straightforward assembly approach dramatically reduces setup time to under thirty minutes, making it accessible to pilots who want to spend more time flying and less time tinkering.
  • Spacious Cabin Design — Unlike cramped aircraft with limited internal space, the Ranger 1600mm features a generously proportioned cabin specifically designed to accommodate FPV camera systems, video transmitters, batteries, flight controllers, and other electronics, giving you the flexibility to customise the aircraft for your specific requirements.
  • 2212/1400KV Brushless Motor — This powerful brushless outrunner motor delivers smooth, reliable power with excellent efficiency, providing the thrust needed for reliable climbs and sustained flight whilst consuming less battery power than equivalent brushed motors, which is particularly valuable during extended FPV missions.
  • Easy-Plug 30A Switch-mode BEC ESC — The included electronic speed controller uses advanced switch-mode technology to regulate power delivery and includes an integrated BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) that supplies regulated power to your servos and electronics, whilst the easy-plug connectors ensure hassle-free connections without soldering.
  • Four 9-gram Servos — Four quality servo motors provide precise control of ailerons and other control surfaces, offering the responsiveness needed for smooth, predictable flight characteristics across a wide range of flying conditions.
  • 2.4GHz 6-Channel Radio System Compatibility — The aircraft is designed to work with modern 2.4GHz six-channel radio control systems, offering reliable interference-free communication and the extra channels needed for controlling ailerons, flaps, camera pan servos, and other auxiliary functions.
  • Aileron Control — Independent aileron control surfaces provide precise roll authority, enabling acrobatic manoeuvres and smooth coordinated turns that make the aircraft responsive and fun to fly whilst maintaining excellent stability in cruise flight.
  • Folding Propeller Design — The 8040 folding propeller reduces wind resistance during gliding phases and folds back during descent or unpowered flight, improving glide performance and allowing the aircraft to make the most of thermal lift when used in slope soaring or thermal soaring applications.
  • Suitable for Beginner to Expert Pilots — Volantex has engineered this aircraft to be forgiving enough for newcomers to RC flying whilst offering sufficient performance and capability to satisfy experienced pilots seeking a versatile FPV platform or competition-grade glider.

Technical Performance

The Volantex Ranger 1600mm stands out in the brushless RC aircraft category due to its thoughtful engineering and attention to performance details. The 2212/1400KV brushless motor represents an excellent choice for this airframe size, providing sufficient power for reliable takeoffs and sustained climbs whilst remaining efficient enough to work well with modestly-sized LiPo batteries. The Easy-Plug 30A ESC with integrated switch-mode BEC ensures that power delivery is smooth and responsive, with the built-in voltage regulator eliminating the need for a separate BEC unit and simplifying the electrical architecture. The aircraft's overall length of 1100mm combined with its 1600mm wingspan creates an efficient wing-loading ratio that promotes stable, predictable flight characteristics—this is particularly important for FPV operations where stable, smooth flight is essential for capturing quality footage or maintaining control whilst wearing FPV goggles. The construction utilises lightweight EPO foam for the wings and fuselage, a material celebrated throughout the RC hobby for its combination of impact resistance and low weight. This engineered design means that if you do experience a minor crash or impact, the EPO structure is likely to absorb the impact with minor cosmetic damage rather than catastrophic structural failure. The aircraft achieves excellent glide characteristics, making it suitable for slope soaring or thermal soaring applications as well as powered FPV flying. Assembly time of less than thirty minutes using the plug-in and click structure approach means you can progress from unpacking to maiden flight preparation remarkably quickly, a genuine advantage over kit-built aircraft that require extensive assembly, balancing, and rigging. The aircraft's recommended 11.1V 3S LiPo battery specification aligns perfectly with commonly available RC LiPo packs, meaning you'll have no difficulty sourcing affordable batteries and chargers from UK RC retailers. The six-channel radio control system capability provides excellent versatility, allowing you to operate ailerons, elevators, rudder, throttle, and two auxiliary channels—enough for FPV camera gimbal control or other payload management functions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Volantex Ranger 1600mm suitable for beginners learning RC flying? — Yes, absolutely. The Ranger 1600mm is specifically designed for beginner-to-expert pilots, meaning Volantex has engineered it to be forgiving and stable whilst remaining capable enough for experienced pilots. The straightforward assembly, stable flight characteristics, and generous wingspan all contribute to making this an ideal trainer aircraft. The aircraft's predictable handling means pilots can focus on developing fundamental flying skills without fighting an unstable or difficult platform.
  • How long does it take to assemble the Ranger 1600mm? — Assembly time is less than thirty minutes. The plug-in and click structure design means wings connect to the fuselage without requiring glue, epoxy, or complex rigging. You'll simply need to ensure the components are properly seated and secured, then you can proceed to installing your battery, receiver, and preparing for flight.
  • What battery does this aircraft need? — The Ranger 1600mm is recommended to use an 11.1V 3S LiPo battery, with 1800mAh capacity suggested as a good starting point. This battery specification is widely available from UK RC retailers and online suppliers. A 3S LiPo battery delivers approximately 12.6V when fully charged, providing the voltage needed for the 2212 brushless motor to operate at peak efficiency.
  • Can I use this aircraft for FPV flying? — Yes, the spacious cabin is specifically designed to accommodate FPV equipment including cameras, video transmitters, and flight controllers. Many pilots use the Ranger 1600mm as an excellent FPV platform for aerial photography, FPV racing training, or casual FPV exploration. The stable flight characteristics and generous payload capacity make it particularly well-suited for FPV applications.
  • What makes this different from the Ranger 2000? — The Ranger 1600mm and Ranger 2000 serve similar roles but with different scale and performance characteristics. The 1600mm model is more efficient with battery energy, requires less powerful batteries, and is slightly more responsive due to lighter wing loading. The 2000mm version offers a larger platform with potentially greater payload capacity and superior glide characteristics. For most UK hobbyists starting with FPV or seeking a versatile trainer aircraft, the 1600mm is the ideal choice.
