The SV-1274MG's reputation in the RC community extends across competitive flying, 3D aerobatic manoeuvres, and standard helicopter operations. Its ability to deliver consistent, accurate response at both 7.4V and 8.4V makes it remarkably versatile for various battery setups, allowing you to choose the voltage that best suits your aircraft and flying style.
Key Features
- High-Voltage Capable Design — This servo operates efficiently across a voltage range of 6.0V to 7.4V standard operation, with exceptional performance at higher voltages including 8.4V, delivering significantly increased torque and speed when you need maximum responsiveness and authority over your aircraft's tail rotor.
- Coreless Motor Technology — The high-efficiency coreless motor design eliminates the iron core found in traditional servo motors, resulting in reduced weight, lower power consumption, and faster response times—critical advantages when piloting advanced RC helicopters where precision control directly impacts flight stability.
- Metal Gear Train — Precision metal gears ensure exceptional durability and reliability under the demanding conditions typical of RC helicopter operation, providing confidence that your servo will maintain performance through countless flight hours and challenging manoeuvres without stripping or wearing prematurely.
- Ultra-Fast Response — With a speed rating of 0.045 seconds per 60 degrees at 8.4V and 0.050 seconds at 7.4V, this servo delivers the lightning-quick response times essential for tail rotor control, 3D flying, and maintaining stability during aggressive flying techniques.
- Aluminium Centre Case — The partially aluminium construction improves heat dissipation from the motor, keeping temperatures down during extended flight sessions while providing structural rigidity and durability that composite-only cases cannot match.
- Ball Bearing Construction — Dual ball bearings support the servo output shaft, ensuring smooth, precise movement with minimal friction and wear, contributing to the servo's longevity and maintaining consistent performance over time.
- Digital Servo Technology — Advanced digital circuitry provides super-high resolution control, faster update rates, and more accurate position holding compared to analogue servos, translating to more responsive control feedback and better flight characteristics.
- Standard Size Format — This servo utilises the widely-compatible standard servo size, featuring a 25-tooth spline output shaft that works with the vast majority of standard servo horns and helicopter tail rotor assemblies available in the UK RC market.
Technical Performance
The SAVOX SV-1274MG represents a pinnacle of servo engineering, delivering exceptional performance specifications that place it at the forefront of helicopter tail servo solutions. At 7.4V operation, this servo produces an impressive 9.0 kg-cm of torque whilst achieving response times of 0.050 seconds per 60 degrees of rotation—speed and power that work in concert to provide helicopter pilots with the precise authority needed for stable tail rotor control. When operated at the higher 8.4V specification, the servo's capabilities expand dramatically: torque increases to a commanding 15.0 kg-cm, and response speed accelerates to just 0.045 seconds per 60 degrees, making it extraordinarily responsive for advanced flying techniques and 3D aerobatic manoeuvres.
The engineering behind this performance combines several sophisticated design elements. The coreless motor design eliminates unnecessary mass and magnetic resistance, allowing the motor to spool up and respond with minimal lag. The high-efficiency motor works in concert with precision metal gears that have been manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring smooth power delivery from motor to output shaft without the slippage or backlash common in lower-grade servos. The dual ball-bearing construction supports the output shaft with minimal friction, permitting the servo to reach its commanded positions quickly and hold them with rock-solid stability. The aluminium centre case isn't merely cosmetic—it actively participates in thermal management, drawing heat away from the motor windings and dissipating it into the surrounding structure, allowing the servo to maintain peak performance even during extended flight sessions or when pushing the aircraft through demanding aerobatic sequences.
Dimensionally, the servo measures 40.3mm in length, 20.2mm in width, and 38.5mm in height, with a total weight of just 61 grams. This compact footprint and light weight make it ideal for helicopter fuselages where every gram matters for flight performance and battery runtime. The servo accepts input voltages from 6.0V through 7.4V standard, with capability for 8.4V operation when using appropriate lithium-based battery systems commonly found in modern RC helicopter setups throughout the UK. The JR-type connector ensures broad compatibility with standard RC receivers and flight control systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the SAVOX SV-1274MG suitable for helicopter tail rotor applications? — Yes, absolutely. This servo was specifically designed and engineered for helicopter tail rotor use. The ultra-fast response times, high torque output, and smooth metal gear operation make it ideal for maintaining tail rotor stability and control, whether you're flying standard helicopter circuits or attempting advanced 3D aerobatic manoeuvres. Many experienced helicopter pilots throughout the UK rely on this servo for critical tail control.
- What voltage should I operate this servo at for best performance? — The servo operates across 6.0V to 7.4V for standard operation. At 7.4V (two-cell LiPo), you'll achieve 9.0 kg-cm torque and 0.050-second response time. For maximum performance, many advanced pilots use 8.4V operation (which the servo is fully capable of handling), which increases torque to 15.0 kg-cm and accelerates response time to 0.045 seconds. Choose based on your aircraft's battery system and the level of control authority you require.
- How does the coreless motor improve servo performance? — Coreless motors eliminate the iron core present in traditional servo motors, reducing total weight, minimizing magnetic drag, and decreasing current draw. This allows the motor to accelerate more quickly to its commanded speed, resulting in faster overall servo response. The coreless design also generates less heat, extending servo lifespan and allowing sustained performance during extended flight sessions.
- Will this servo work with my existing RC helicopter receiver? — The SV-1274MG features a standard JR-type connector and 25-tooth spline output shaft, making it compatible with virtually all modern RC helicopter receivers and standard servo horn assemblies sold throughout the UK RC market. Compatibility is one of the primary advantages of choosing a standard-sized servo format.
- What is the difference between this servo and standard-speed tail servos? — Speed is the primary differentiator. While standard tail servos might achieve 0.10 to 0.15-second response times, the SV-1274MG delivers 0.045 to 0.050-second response—roughly three times faster. This extraordinary speed improvement provides helicopter pilots with significantly more responsive control feedback, enabling smoother flight characteristics, better stability during aggressive manoeuvres, and greater overall control authority. For serious helicopter enthusiasts, this performance advantage justifies the investment.
- How durable are the metal gears in this servo? — Metal gears are considerably more durable than nylon alternatives, resisting stripping and wear far more effectively. The precision metal gear train in the SV-1274MG is specifically engineered to handle the continuous duty cycles of helicopter tail rotor operation whilst maintaining accuracy and smoothness. Pilots can confidently subject this servo to demanding flying conditions without concern about gear degradation.
- What is the warranty coverage for this servo? — SAVOX backs this servo with a comprehensive 1-year warranty from the date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects and component failures. This warranty demonstrates the manufacturer's confidence in product quality and provides peace of mind for your investment.
