Overview
The MIP Speed Tip™ Ball Hex Driver Wrench Set Gen 2 is a precision tool designed for RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and accuracy when working on their models. Whether you're maintaining your RC car UK setup, performing regular maintenance on brushless RC vehicles, or fine-tuning competition machines, this metric driver set delivers the quality and durability that MIP is renowned for across the hobby. The Gen 2 update brings enhanced engineering to an already trusted design, making this an essential addition to any serious RC modeller's toolkit.
This compact metric driver trio features ball hex profiles in three common sizes: 2.0mm, 2.5mm, and 3.0mm. The ball hex design offers distinct advantages over traditional hex drivers, providing improved engagement with fasteners and reducing the risk of stripping or damaging hex screws during assembly, disassembly, and adjustment tasks. For anyone working with modern RC vehicles, from ready to run RC cars to custom-built competition machines, having the right tools makes all the difference in achieving consistent, professional results.
Identified by part number MIP9616, this driver set combines MIP's quality standards with practical functionality. Whether you're a weekend basher adjusting your RC car setup, a serious hobbyist performing regular maintenance, or a competition RC driver making precise adjustments before a race, these drivers offer a dependable solution for bench tasks and general hobby maintenance. The Gen 2 designation confirms this is the latest iteration of a proven design, featuring improvements that reflect current manufacturing standards and user feedback from the RC community.
Key Features
- Ball Hex Profile Design — The ball hex profile provides superior engagement with fasteners compared to standard hex drivers, allowing you to work more comfortably at slight angles whilst maintaining positive contact with the screw head, which reduces the risk of stripping fasteners and extends the life of both your tools and your RC vehicle's components.
- Metric Sizing (2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm) — These three metric sizes cover the most common hex fastener requirements found on modern RC vehicles, from small servo linkage screws to larger suspension adjustment bolts, making this set incredibly versatile for both assembly and maintenance work on RC buggies, RC trucks, and RC cars UK-wide.
- Gen 2 Engineering Update — The second-generation design incorporates improvements in tool geometry, material consistency, and overall construction quality, reflecting MIP's commitment to continuous improvement and ensuring you're getting the latest advances in tool technology.
- Precision Manufacturing — Each driver in this set is manufactured to tight tolerances by MIP, a brand recognised for meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accurate fit and smooth operation across all common metric hex fasteners found on RC models.
- Compact Driver Trio Configuration — By bundling three essential sizes together in one set, MIP has created a practical solution that minimises the space required in your toolbox or workbench whilst ensuring you have the right tool immediately at hand for most RC maintenance and assembly tasks.
- Trusted Brand Quality Standards — MIP's reputation in the RC hobby is built on delivering tools that stand up to demanding use, and this driver set maintains that tradition with consistent fit, durability, and reliable performance through countless hours of hobby work.
Technical Performance
The MIP Speed Tip™ Ball Hex Driver Wrench Set Gen 2 represents a focused approach to tool design, concentrating on delivering excellence in a specific function rather than attempting to be a universal solution. Each driver features a ball hex profile that provides approximately 30% more contact surface area with fastener heads compared to traditional pointed hex tips, significantly reducing the likelihood of slipping or stripping screw heads—a critical consideration when working with precision RC vehicles. The metric sizing of 2.0mm, 2.5mm, and 3.0mm covers the vast majority of hex fasteners encountered on contemporary RC cars, trucks, buggies, and off-road models, whether you're working with brushless or brushed RC systems. The construction quality typical of MIP tools ensures that these drivers maintain their dimensional accuracy and surface finish through extensive use, providing the dependable performance that competitive RC drivers and serious hobby enthusiasts expect. The Gen 2 designation confirms that these tools incorporate the latest refinements in MIP's engineering standards, with improved material selection and manufacturing processes that enhance durability and reduce wear over time. Whether you're adjusting suspension geometry on your RC buggy, replacing servo linkage components, or performing routine maintenance on your brushless RC vehicle, these drivers deliver the precision, fit, and reliability needed for professional-quality results.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a ball hex driver and why is it better than a standard hex driver? — A ball hex driver features a rounded, spherical tip design rather than a pointed tip, which provides increased surface contact with the fastener head and allows you to apply force at slight angles without slipping or stripping the screw. This is particularly valuable in RC work where fasteners are often small, precision-engineered, and expensive to replace, making the ball hex design a superior choice for maintaining your RC car UK setup or competition vehicle.
- Will these drivers fit the hex screws on my RC vehicle? — The 2.0mm, 2.5mm, and 3.0mm sizes in this set cover the most common metric hex fasteners found on modern RC models, including RC buggies, RC trucks, RC cars, and comparable vehicles. However, older models or specialist vehicles may occasionally use different sizes, so it's worth checking your specific RC vehicle's documentation if you're unsure.
- Are these drivers suitable for beginners working on RC cars? — Absolutely. These drivers are ideal for anyone new to RC hobby work because the ball hex design makes it easier to engage fasteners correctly without causing damage, which helps build good technique and confidence when assembling, disassembling, or adjusting your first ready to run RC car or custom build.
- How does the Gen 2 version differ from the original MIP Speed Tip set? — The Gen 2 designation indicates that this set incorporates MIP's latest engineering improvements, including refined tool geometry, enhanced material selection, and improved manufacturing processes that deliver better durability and more consistent performance compared to earlier iterations of this driver design.
- What types of RC vehicles can I use these drivers with? — These metric drivers are compatible with any modern RC vehicle that uses metric hex fasteners, including RC buggies, RC trucks, RC monster trucks, RC off-road vehicles, and standard RC cars. Whether you're working on a brushless RC model or a brushed vehicle, these versatile drivers will serve you well.
- Can I use these drivers for tasks other than RC work? — Whilst designed specifically for precision RC work, the ball hex profile makes these drivers useful for any hobby or professional application involving small metric hex fasteners, such as model building, electronics assembly, or detailed mechanical work requiring accuracy and reliability.
